You can train Winnie to walk on a leash while she is young. It will allow her to burn off more of her energy. Great video.

My top kitten tip for a restful sleep is to not react when they try to disturb you at night; play dead, don't move or say anything at all, not even to tell them no. Otherwise they learn that they can wake you up and they are essentially training you. It may take a week or two but the kitty will eventually learn to just let you sleep. When I first got my cat she was full of CRAZY kitten energy and the first few nights I was like "oh no what have I got myself into?" but she learned quickly and now she just sleeps with me at night!

yes kittens are FULL OF ENERGY! So glad they have each other to play. Winnie will eventually calm down and be a chill gorl, enjoy those kitten years (they are pretty hyper from kitten until 2 ish lol)

Love Winnie! I highly recommend implementing a play, eat, sleep routine at night. I mean literally play with her so much she is exhausted RIGHT before bed. Then feed her and everyone goes to bed. It helped with my kitten tremendously ❤

A CATIO for Winnie would be a great project! Since you’re renting, you might try or design a portable version, or a larger one you can easily break down and reassemble somewhere else if you ever have to move. 😻 You might want to incorporate a smaller window as a cat portal for easy safe cat access, with a larger human-sized door for maintenance or emergency.

When I was living in California I would see people in my town walking their cats on a leash and it was so endearing. One of my outdoor cats used to walk alongside me and my roommates dog when we would go for walks and the 3 of us would stroll together. It was bliss ❤

Winnie will 100% love being a leash kitty. I trained my cat Zoloft when he was little and he loves going on walks now. I also highly recommend getting winnie microchipped especially because she loves outside. I’m so so happy for you guys. Congratulations!!

Bunch of other people have said this in the comments but I will also add that leash training your cat also has the added benefit of making them a little bit easier to travel with. My cat doesn’t go for walks or anything but it is nice that she is calm in a harness and leash for when we travel I can give her breaks from her carrier.

I am a cat person and my number 1 advice is when you look at each room in your house consider the cat launching points like what she has axcess to and which surface has the most landing space. I keep a lot of my plants elivated on stands or a rack cause window sills are places my cat Mia considers her real estate. Also on Temu they carry cat scratching gards for sofa corners.She is a lovely lilac little girl I'm glad she was saved from a life of other predators and such outdoors. I'd be super interested to have an updated pest control video especially since you now have Theo and Winnie (keeping our pets safe complicates things!). Specifically mite/flatmite control for platycerium would be immensely appreciated since spraying their trichomes isn't ideal. I'd also recommend Jackson Galaxy's youtube channel for any behavioral challenges with Winnie :) Cats can be tough and they are soooo smart and energetic. They need stuff to do and things to hunt/climb if they are kept indoors

Hi Benji, you can place water near cat food, but generally better to keep the water and food bowls a bit apart. Cats can sometimes be picky and may not like to drink water that's too close to their food because it can become contaminated or have food particles in it. Placing the water bowl in a separate location can encourage your cat to drink more and keep the water cleaner. I used to have 2 dogs, each left in 2015 and 2019. I also adopted my cat Hana in 2020. I learnt a lot from animals. They are great companions ❤

Scheduled meal time later in the day helped me with my cat wanting to play early in the morning. She gets her first meal at 11 am. But kittens are crazy lol, she will settle down. ALSO get your kitten used to baths! Cats don’t need them often, but sometimes they’ll have an emergency like vomiting on themself, or need them in old age. Baths can reduce allergens too and they make sprays and foams you can brush into their coats to reduce allergens.

Winnie is adorable!! I have 3 feline fur babies and they are literally like my children. You will learn cats are not what society has made them out to be. They are not aloof and they love and need human interaction! Enjoy it. Keeping their claws cut when young will make life when she is older a lot easier. It's not hard. PLEASE do a Kokedama Tutorial! Love those.

OMG, Fern is amazing 🤩😍 Congratulations on the kitty! I recently adopted a cat. The adoption papers wouldn't be processed without agreeing to not declaw or let them out unsupervised. It was surprising at first, but I get that they want to make sure they have a safe and happy life. You can leash train, get a backpack/carrier, or catio to have her outside safely 🥰 Best to you all!

I remember one of your past videos mentioning how much both of you wanted a cat and you were thinking about it because of the allergies, but I can tell how much you are enjoying having her, cats are very independent and playful, with time she would spend most of the time sleeping hehe ❤

all the strategies you guys are using are what I plan to do when getting a cat; I've always been told I've been allergic to cats due to having asthma when I was younger but I have close to 0 experience with them, so I want to take proper precautions just in case and this hearing about what you guys are doing is super helpful also the steps she can use to climb to her food/water is so intuitive. avoids the problem of Theo and her eating each others food.

We are experienced cat owners. Kittens are always crazy for about the first year. They want to explore everything and are super curious. To keep her from ruining blinds, leave a few up so that she can always look out a few windows when she wants. Also, never tease her with your hands so she doesn't think they are toys. She's so sweet! Will be great company for your pup. Get her spayed as soon as her weight allows and make sure she's chipped. Congratulations on your new addition!

If she starts eating plants, I recommend growing cat grass (it's usually Wheat, Barley, Rye, etc.). Cats are pure carnivores but they instinctively eat grass to add some fiber to their diet, they are mostly attracted to thin leaves and usually leave thicker plants like aroids or ivys alone. The only plants that gave me trouble were Oncidium and Zygopetalum orchids (they have veeeery thin leaves), which are not poisonous but of course the plant gets damaged. Adding the cat grass completely solved the chewing problem and I placed three different pots in strategic places near plants they would eat. I would imagine something like a spider plant or ponytail palm would be a target.

Cat allergens come from their saliva, not necessarily fur/dander. But because they groom themselves, it transfers to their body. Over time, as you live with a cat, if you are allergic, you can build up a tolerance to your own cat. Different cat breeds/coat types will produce different levels of the enzymes/proteins that cause allergens, which is why some people are more/less allergic to certain breeds or coat lengths.

When my new kitten woke me up at night from the beginning I trained her to stop it, I would just whisk her off the bed& not react and after a while she new I wouldn’t react anyway and stopped.

You’ll blink and the kitten phase is over. Like a child lmao, the craziness chills out too btw, you’ll be having super chill snuggles all night in about a years time x it while it lasts, isnt she pretty 😍

Regarding the allergies. It's a bit late but if your allergic to the cat dander and hairs look into sphinx cats. They have very little hair. Little to no hair means little to no dander. Plus they're very unique looking with big personalities. She doesn't want you to pick her up to deposit on a lap. Mine would do that. Be all irritated by my choosing it's time for the lap sitting. But she became the big snuggler. When she found me laying on the couch she'd jump up on me, stretch out put her face under my chin and start purring. And drooling. And kneading.with her front paws. Years ago my husband worked as a social worker at a methadone clinic. Someone mentioned that there was a small kitten that had been hanging around in the parking lot. People were feeding her and kinda waiting for mom to show up. Never did. So husband brought her home. She was scared but very hungry. After the first day of my feeding her she calmed quickly and decided that I was perfect a cat bed. She spent 3-4 days almost glued to my chest. Purring, kneading and drooling. We also think she was too young to not still be with mom. Might answer some curious thoughts regarding the thing about the head under my chin. She would do this for the rest of her life. Not as much as when she was a kitten but continued. At her discretion naturally. We lost her late 2022.

I’ve struggled with sudden allergies as well after having cats for years, but I’ve realized that I’m allergic to fleas and stuff, not the cats. And sometimes they can get them from outside/other animals.

I love this! My cats actually sleep all night, and watch birds feeding on my balcony at the big patio doors until about 9 a.m. when they decide they're hungry. As they get older, they often are awake just before dawn, their natural hunting time. Mine don't eat plants either.
