Hi Chantal, It's my experience that people always leave their homes really clean and tidy for the exchange family to come. The worst I've experienced was a family who had left two big plies of paper on the counter in the living room, but the home was still clean. Perfume and fragrance is a thing to consider though.... I always bring my own washing powder, shampoo, soap and dishwasher soap and taps. Because fragrance free products can be difficult to find in some countries, and I don't want to spend half a day from store to store in the search for soap 😉 I tell the exchange family, that I'm sensitive to smells, and I ask them to remove air fresheners etc before we arrive. And I ask them only to use perfume in the bathroom in my home, and only use our fragrance free soaps and cleaning stuff when cleaning the house and using the washing machine. The other family is always very understanding and respects my wishes. Please let me know if you have any other questions 😀 💚 Minna
So interesting! Thank you ❤ I've thought about doing this in the past. I would be concerned my house would not be tidy enough! What do you do with regular day to day clutter before guests come to your home? And clothes? Do you need to clear wardrobe space?! ❤
Hi Ruth, I'm so happy to hear that you are considering Home Exchange 😃🙌🏼 If the pictures you take of your home reflect how tidy your home is when exchanging, you will have no problem. Because then the exchange family can see exactly what they get. But lots of people in the home exchange community have a locked room in the house where they store private stuff and all of that clutter, that does not have a place 😉 We have a room in the basement, where we clutter we didn't have time to tidy up. We leave our home VERY tidy and clean (more tidy and clean than everyday life 😉) because we think that the exchange family will take better care of our home and stuff if the home is tidy and clean on arrival. However, that's just our guess 🤷🏼♀ But, as I said in the video: we have never had a bad experience with people living in our home😃🙌🏼 It is considered good practice to leave some room in drawers and closets for the exchange family to store their clothes. However, we rarely do that, and no one has complained so far... Don't hesitate to ask, if you want to know more 💚Minna
