The meaning of “Brothers in Arms” rings true across more than just when we’re at war overseas, but when we’re fighting amongst ourselves.
When political and other divisions split us, we have to take a step back and remember that we always have more in common with each other than we have that is different. And we need to see all of our fellow human beings as the brothers and sisters we are, so we can live in a more harmonious society ❤️

In 1982 when this was written my husband spent 3 weeks on the QE2 on his way to the Falklands. He was injured at 2:30am on the day of the ceasefire and has suffered for 41 years. He returned to the islands 20 years later with lots of vets and they were blown away by the feeling of gratitude and love from the islanders. Thank you to all who served for our freedom 👏🏻🙏🏻

@@mikeparker7631 Please remember, that Home Free Home Fries exist all over the World! We're not all American, so not all of us are into the very nationalistic (for lack of a better word) songs on their repertoire. We can still appreciate the skill and talent behind the performances, even if the songs themselves aren't our favourites. This song was written by Mark Knopfler in 1982, about the Falklands War and it's casualties.

71 years ago my uncle Marvin died at the battle of Chosin Reservoir in what is now North Korea. The US and UN troops were so out numbered and under such continuous fire that they were not able to take the fallen with them when they withdrew. My uncle was one of those left behind. But now, thanks to decades of diplomacy and the science of DNA, his remains have been repatriated and positively identified. He's finally coming home. His ashes will be interred in his mother's grave next month. It took a lifetime of continuing effort, but they finally brought him home. Like the lyrics in this song say, "You did not desert me, my brothers in arms."

WOW 🥺! Your ability to tell a relatively short story with such depth and detail, in so few words - is amazing, yet I feel compelled to not only thank you - for sharing this slice of your own family history - while offering apologies for EVERY soldier, EVERYWHERE for being forced to be pawns in our leaders battles. Maybe we (EVERY COUNTRY) should bring our soldiers home - and send the LEADERS to the battlefield to fight out their agendas - until the last one standing. Seems more fair, right? 👍

This is possibly one of the most beautiful a capella pieces I've heard! The whole group nailed every part. One thing I really love about this cover is the fact that they chose a bass singer as the lead, but just left him as the lead. They didn't try and show off with subharmonics, growls or any of the other super showy techniques (they have a place but are sometimes overused); instead they just let the natural warmth and beauty of a lower voice shine as the focal point for all the stunning harmonies. Fantastic job, Home Free.

People while fighting today about issues we face; stop, think and look around at how many fought and died for the freedom many so willingly give away today. This nation was founded on principle that we looked out for and cared for each other; NO MATTER OUR DIFFERENCES... Today focus is on keeping division, then randomly thanking someone for their service; not ever taking the time to think about what that service member risked their life for... It wasn't for your battle for division, how is that for a direct hint... And yes, I am a veteran and would prefer you thank me by working together and not forcing opinions on each other.

God bless all veterans who answered the call of duty to serve as a Brother in Arms. God bless those men and women who died for their nations cause. I don't have much love for the axis of WW2 but know that many of the poor boys shoved into battle, just wanted to live, go home an love someone, and have a real life. Sure some were so fanatical that they didn't know this, but most were just scared little boys who wanted there mommies. If you were faced with an assured death, who would be in your last thoughts. God bless all those who faced real death, weather form an enemy bullet or bomb, or as I did in the Coast Guard, in 1976, and the terrors of an angry sea, aboard a 40 year old Coast Guard cutter, in 1976, in 30 foot seas, in the Gulf of Alaska... The portholes showed grey sky one second and deep green water the next. I mostly just prayed and ask for Gods mercy... Also I was a freaking seasick son of a bitch most the time. And I was a cook... I don't recommended my Parmesan Chicken dinner just before we entered the Straight of Juan De Fucha...

Tim's vocals bring me back 35 years to the piercing, tectonic balm of this song's namesake album. I was barely in my twenties, but grew up with Vietnam as a backdrop. The insanity of it, the nearly insurmountable damage At Every Turn, the Vets...some disfigured, some walking-wounded, most bewildered, all betrayed. That bass rumbles in the bone the way grief and disillusionment did. As a kid it was terrifying to see that all the adults had lost their collective shit. Words alone can't describe or heal it. Only music can touch it. I'm truly grateful.

That hit deep. (No pun intended on Tim and Chance carrying the song in their lower registers. Just happy coincidence.) After reading the song description, it made me realize that a lot of the anger I feel at what I see happening in our country right now is underlaid by an even deeper sadness that there is so much strife and division. We are all part of the human family, and it always hurts to be separated from your family.

This is the same thought that was running through my mind as they sang. Usually, I focus on the musicality with Home Free... This time the message hit me hard. As a veteran, I often had thoughts like this whenever we sent soldiers "over there". But lately, the way our country is ripping itself apart over what politicians have stirred up by trying to force us to "choose a side" has hit me. I'm starting to see signs of PTSD-like symptoms in the average people.

I just listened to the original before coming back yet again to this, wondering why this version ALWAYS leaves me bawling, while the original doesn't. I think it's because Dire Straits' version is the low key melancholy of survival which inspires contemplation and remembrance. The raging storm is over. You survived. You're worn out, you're grieving for those who were lost, but you *survived*. Home Free? You're still in the raging storm. They just reach in and rip out your heart with the emotional reality of war.

When I first saw this was going to be a premiere, I was like is it going to be "that" Brothers In Arms...the Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler Brothers In Arms. I always loved that song...for its depth....simplicity...its meaning. I listened to the Home Free version tonight...impressed by their rendition. It captures the essence of the original, the depth, the simplicity. Once again Home Free pays tribute...they come through...and this Veteran appreciates their efforts. Thank you Home Free.

The fact that they sound just like a pipe organ is both breathtaking and gives the song a feeling of reverence and sanctity. I thought about sending them a message before this video came out. I struggle with a chronic illness, which is a different kind of battle and war. This song hit me right in the feels because it addresses things about my life that most people don't get to see. Thank you Home Free for such a moving song. As a mother who has a son in the military this reminded me of what could have happened when he was 18 and in the Iraq war. Also of my father who served bravely in World War 2 and live to tell his family of what he endured in a German prison camp. Freedom isn’t, free there is always someone who has to sacrifice his/her life so we can stay free.

I lost my father last July to pulmonary fibrosis. He was A Navy recon photographer for 30 years. What I'm babbling on about to say is Thank you is not enough to ALL who served in the military in any capacity. Home Free in this song Honors the many souls who fought and died for our way of life. Whenever you see a military person active duty or retired, please make the effort to say Thank You for your service. A simple Thank You goes a very long way in the moral of our warriors.

Rivals, or goes above and beyond the Pentatonics. So amazing. Challengers to the throne. But the bass and baritone, harmonizing with the sopranos and tenor, it's what drags me in. I was a Corpsman, First Gulf War. "I'mma save you!" As a field medic, you swear three oaths. The first, to uphold and protect the US constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. The second, the Hippocratic oath. "First, do no harm." Paraphrasing a bit. The third, is unwritten, unspoken, just understood. It's the override. Team comes first. It pre-empts all the others, because, well, sorry, if it's a little pragmatic sounding, "If you're dead, or I'm dead, I can't carry out the others. So, stay alive! If you die, we die." This is so much more pertinent. "I'd catch a grenade for you." for me, at least wasn't a song lyric. The entire ethos, we'd die for eachother, but... that's not exactly plan A. Stay alive! Weird thing they did to me, was, to try to make me unkillable. Innoculated, injected, gas chambers, trained with SEALs. I don't like guns, personally, but I was a medic. My side-arm was a Ka-Bar short blade. No intent to harm. Utility. I hate war. Sorry if it sounds unpatriotic. I worked on a warship, at VA hospitals, saw the damage it does. The lives cost, the crippling injuries. I was just, "No!" Ack! Long story short, love the music, the harmonization, the theme, the whole kit and caboodle. More about the music, the combination. It's... insanely good. The balance of the bass, baritone, tenor, soprano, it all, to me, at least represents team.
