Man of Constant Sorrow is a really good one if you want real country music. Covers Tim's really low voice as well as beatboxing. Another good advice if you only want low notes is Misty mountains Tim does with another artist. That is what I call low notes.
The biggest rule for going down the Home Free rabbit hole is to save "Mayday" for when you KNOW the guys and their usual roles. If you do this, the "Mayday ready" experience is INCREDIBLE.
Tim Faust, the bass, collaborated with Peter Hollens to do "misty mountains" Tim, does what Tim does best and it shows his bass notes extremely well...
@@MissMeganFriday As A thought you need to check out Chevel Sheppard's song "the letter" A young girl asked her to write a song about her mom...just wow...
Well, lessee... Home Free has been around for 20 years. Founded by Chris and Adam Rupp of Minnesota. I think the group copied the name of their dad's boat. Rob Lundquist is also from Minnesota. Other current and former members tend to be from the South. The group hit it big around 2013 when they won a TV singoff the year after Pentatonix won it. Tenor 1 is Austin Brown. Tenor 2 is Rob Lundquist (beard and glasses). Beatbox is Adam Rupp. There's live vids where he can imitate a whole drum set. Tenor/Baritone was Chris Rupp (cowboy hat in the vid). He resigned from the group a few years ago. Now does solo work, and works with the 7th Avenue Band with his sister Tristin and some rotating guest artists. He was replaced by Adam Chance, who is just called Chance to avoid confusion with the other Adam. Low bass is Tim Foust. You heard him hit a G1 at the end of this vid. In the live TV contest that they originally created this song arrangement for, he did it as an F#1. "How Great Thou Art" and other spirituals will show you their straightforward voices. They've recorded songs along with Kenny Rogers and with The Oak Ridge Boys. "Man of Constant Sorrow" will give you a chance to hear everyone isolated. "Mayday" will also give you a chance to hear isolation vocals, and there's stuff they do there that's a departure from their normal roles. (We're not supposed to give it away to new reactors. You'll have to see.) "Misty Mountains Cold" by Peter Hollens and Tim Foust will give you another shot at Tim's low range. Since you like low bass singers with wide ranges, at some point you'll also have to check out Geoff Castellucci and the group Voiceplay. It's a job requirement, not an option. :) A good start would be the cover of "Oogie Boogie's Song" for the whole group, and the cover of Paul McCartney's "Blackbird" For Geoff as a multitracked soloist. He gets down to an E1 in both of those.
That's pretty much everything that I wanted to say, so thanks. :-) The only thing I'd add is Tim Foust's collaboration with the Hound + The Fox on "We Three Kings" - he sings a connected melody down low, rather than just "bomb" notes. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eEtUGgBwzEM.html
Just found your channel today. Everyone that is making suggestions are spot on. I'm sure we are all looking forward to your new journey into the world of a capella. Love the reactions.
Welcome to Home Free. They are amazing. You'll like them all, but let me suggest, Seven Bridges Road, My Church, Take Me Home Country Roads, and Love Train. Just to name a few.
I see that many of the "Home Fries" have recommended many of Home Free's songs (they have over a hundred on RU-vid) but just for fun, you should also watch some of their live performances, especially when they go off-script or just plain old mess up. Some suggested ones are "Storytime with Tim" (especially the Whip/Nae Nae one), the "Guilty Pleasures" ones, and the "Colder Weather" one where Austin forgets the words. Most of these are "fan cams" and some are not great quality, but the humor and good time had by the group make up for most of it. There are also many collaborations with other groups/individuals by one or all of them and their wives and friends. A beautiful one is "Proud To Be An American" with the songwriter Lee Greenwood and the USAF band "The Singing Sergeants".
you wanna see rob (guy in glasses) do his thing need to check their Boys to Men cover End of the Road. these guys dont just do country they cover pop, R&B, country, etc. Tim the bass has a 5 octave range.
Home Free began in 2000. They've been around for a bit now... The other person doing the really low note at the end of the song is Tim Foust, he is one of very few who can hit the "G1"Note also knows as a "Growl-Note"
Home Free is an amazing group. If you enjoy country definitely check out their cover of Elvira, that they perform with the Oak Ridge Boys. They also do one with the late, great Kenny Rogers. They are primarily a country acapella group but they mix in covers of several genres of popular music. Tim Foust is their bass and is a 5 octave performer. He will literally shake the rafters. Man of Constant Sorrow has bit of everyone in it, but the main voices are Austin (Curly haired high tenor) and Rob (Guy with glasses). Welcome to the Home Fry Nation :D
Very insteresting reaction - in fact you'll love ALL their voices and lead capabilities that will literally knock your block off...They can sing any genre and any cover they do they pretty much own.... "Man of Constant Sorrow" , "In the Blood", "Take Me Home Country Road", shows you their versatility and luscious harmonies that are so down home but you can tell they love what they do and they have so much fun doing it...try "All About That Bass" - it will make you laugh till you cry... News flash - they also have original songs - Check out "Dive Bar Saints" Looking forward to more of your reactions of HF!! Keep up the good work there MissMeganFriday!!! RichieC
After this one, my next two favorites are "Man of Constant Sorrow" and "Fulsom Prison Blues". Pentatonix and Home Free are very good friends. The both won a season of The Sing Off.
Great reaction and welcome to the Home Free Rabbit hole. They are awesome. I suggest listening to Maren Morris's My Church cover by Home Free. It really shows them all off nicely really. The newest member Adam Chance is best heard in Folsom Prison Blues, Rob can be heard best in Honey I'm Good Another great one is "Everybody Walkin' This Land ..so awesome. Have fun!
Dear Megan, they have so much. They sang this on the show Sing Off the season after Pentatonix was on and the last note from Tim was even deeper than here. You should react to the first song of theirs that I reacted to which is the music video for Man Of Constant Sorrow. You can hear every one of them. By the way, the Beatboxer Adam Rupp has won the world championship competition 2 times. The Bass Tim Foust has a 5 octave range compared to Dimash's 7. The lead is Austin For a FUN song you should react to The Butts Remix. They also have a number of songs from their individual homes including one called Quarantine. You may have to watch that a number of times to see all of the funny things including when one coughs and the words on the screen. They also have a number of songs for Christmas time. You should react to Peter Hollens (He is an Acapella group by himself who does collaborations with others) and Home Free Amazing Grace. There are a LOT MORE but these will get you started. 🎶👱♀️👗👠👠💓
Welcome to Home Free! They are so talented. Try End of the Road or Blue Ain’t you Color if you want to hear Rob, (beard and glasses). Try Folsom Prison Blues, Man of Constant Sorrow to hear more of Tim (super low bass). Austin is the high tenor and has curly reddish hair, Adam is the beatboxer extraordinaire and has blondish hair. And Chris is a tenor (with the cowboy hat). Chris left the group in 2016 and was replaced by Chance who is a baritone/bass. Chance has a 4 octave range. Tim, the bass, has a 5 octave range. He is amazing and actually taught Avi to sing lower. They are both so good. Tim and Avi both collaborated with Peter Hollens, another ‘a cappella’ singer on different songs. Tim does Misty Mountains with Peter and it’s amazing. Avi does Black is the Color of My True Loves Hair with Peter. So beautiful. Home Free won the show Sing Off in 2013 - the year after Pentatonix won. Both are great groups. Keep reacting. Try Helplessly Hoping, How Great Thou Art.
“Man of Constant Sorrow” is great. But if you’re looking for something beautiful and a definite tear jerker, I’d recommend “ Go Rest High on That Mountain”
I think you will find Avi Kaplan's "Change on the Rise" .... moving. ;) Also, Home Free's version of Helplessly Hoping will blow yer mind. The duet in unison at the start will send chills. Don't miss this one
Home Free man of sorrow you can here the guy with glasses rob gets his part. Very old country song . Please enjoy love your reaction. Last note tim hit g1!
If you want to see some of Adam's skills at beatboxing do a search for Home Free drum solo as they use it as a way to get a break during live shows and you can get an idea of how much he has improved by finding one from years ago vs one from the last year or so.
Loved the reaction. There is a cameo in the video for the Home Free original "Champaign Taste on a Beer Budget". Check out the mechanical bull at the end of the video. Asking who the leader is for Home Free is kind of like asking who the leader of Pentatonix is - there really isn't one. The group included brothers Adam Rupp (world class beatboxer) and Chris Rupp (who's also in this video). Chris left the group amicably and has a solo career. He was replaced by Adam Chance (who goes by "Chance" to avoid confusion with Adam Rupp). Home Free was the winner of the singing competition show "The Sing Off" the year after Pentatonix won it and launched their rise to fame. I've heard they adopted the country genre as a recommendation from the producers of that show and it's done them well but, they cover a whole lot of other genres as well. They're obviously friendly with Pentatonix as well as the band Voiceplay (who I'm sure you'll get around to as well) and there are some videos out comparing the bass singers of the 3 groups to see who can go lowest by showing clips from various performances.. This group has a lot of fun in some of their videos (like the one mentioned above). Another of their most-loved videos is "Man of Constant Sorrow" where you can see Adam Chance. When you watch that one, just keep reminding yourself that all the sounds are made by the people. You'll hear things and say "nuh uh". After that, I'm sure you'll get a list of songs from other fans (known as "home fries").
Two of the great acapella groups from the singing show “The Sing Off”. There’s one more that’s been gaining a lot of momentum. Voiceplay Start with the Oogie Boogie song and like the other 2 groups u can’t really miss listening to their songs. Geoff Castellucci like Avi and Tim is amazing. U mentioned a bass battle - there is a video featuring all three basses and comparisons of the songs done with their groups.
Home Free bass singer Tim Foust is a close friend of Avi's. Tim can hit those low growl bass notes with ease, and he actually gave Avi some lessons on that which actually helped Avi's own range get more diverse. I always loved the visual in this video at the very end, after Tim hits that low note, where you can see a smiling Avi take off his signature beanie and replace it with the cowboy hat! Avi was soon to reach a point in his life where he would go thru a lot of personal issues that led to his eventual departure from Pentatonix, so just seeing him enjoying himself in this collaboration with his friend does my old heart good. Avi is a really decent guy who didn't deserve all the negativity he would soon have to deal with.
Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole :) The Home Fries, as we fans of Home Free are called will be here soon. Other covers of theirs to check out are : the gospel hymn How Great thou Art, Ed Sheeran's Castle on the Hill, Blue Ain't your Color a Keith Urban song, their cover of John Denver's Country Roads is unlike anything you've ever heard before, and you'll hear Rob (big guy with glasses clearly in that one, Sawyer Brown's Some Girls Do, and my favorite cover they've done, Thomas Rhett's Die A Happy Man. it's ultra romantic. but also highly recommended - My Church, End of the Road, and a few of their originals.... Dive Bar Saints, When you walk in & Why Not ?
I quite enjoy 'Man of Constant Sorrow', 'Friends in Low Places', 'Down to the Honkytonk' and 'Champagne Taste (On a Beer Budget)' [which you heard a sneak peak of at the end of this song] and then eventually work your way to Mayday after you've watched a few more Home Free videos. Trust me on this one.
If you enjoy Avi Kaplan you should check out some of his solo stuff. He's put out an album recently with all original stuff. Lots of good listening there
Rob, the guy with the glasses and beard that you wondered about does an awesome job with his version of the Boyz 2 Men classic, "End Of The Road". You can compare to the original to see who does it better! ... Guy
They're cover of "End of the Road" is unbelievable! I honestly might like it as much if not more then the original! And Rob (Guy with the Beard) kills the lead!
That is Rob with the Glasses and Beard. Rob is the other lead Tenor, he really shines in the Groups version of Boys to Men End of the Road. A definite to check out!. Love your Reactions!
Great reaction to a fantastic group. You're about meet the 'Home Fries', who will happily share with you anything you want to know about Home Free. First, a few recommendations. I love their Christmas covers (Do you hear what I hear), their simple, beautiful tracks (How Great Thou Art, Go Rest High on that Mountain, Helplessly Hoping), and their upbeat stuff (Hillbilly Bones, Can't stop the feeling) Also, there are hours of them performing live, which gives you a sense of the group. Adam Rupp (beat box) and his brother Chris (cowboy hat in RoF) started the group nearly 20 years ago. Chris left in 16,,replaced by (Adam) 'Chance'. Tim Foust is the 'basso profundo', 5 octave range, Rob is beardy man (tenor), and Austin Brown is the high tenor you like. They don't really rely on a single 'lead singer', as they each lead and do backing as required, often within the same song. Enjoy the Home Free rabbit hole, many, many video clips on RU-vid, not a bad one. 😁
@@dolasfudge705 thanks. Autocorrect 🤪 I actually thought I'd got that wrong (not the spelling) since I typed it, but thought I was just fixating.. I guess unconsciously I knew.. Correcting now 👍
Home Free has a massive following and repertoire. They sing mostly country followed by Christmas, pop and gospel. They don't have a lead singer. All of them lead in various songs. "How Great Thou Art" has the beat boxer singing. "Butts Remix" is fun. "Country Fried Pop" puts their own spin on multiple pop songs. "Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget" is a fun original. "All About That Bass" got accolades from the original recording artist for respectful fun and creativity. Their live "9 to 5" showcases all of them beat boxing. They cooperate/collaborate with other groups. You'll like "Elvira" with the 'Oakridge Boys'. Several who aren't "into" country find themselves enjoying Home Free. They also competed on a show for such groups a season after Pentatonix...they won.
Please check out Voiceplay with another fantastic bass, Geoff Castellucci. I would recommend the Little mermaid medley and definitely My Mother Told Me ft José Rosario Jr.
Love your reaction. I stumbled onto them a year ago and now they fulfill all my music and entertainment needs. They do covers and originals. Everytime i want to suggest a song i think of an even better one. Please keep on delving. They make you laugh and they make you cry. They really impressed me with their quarentine output. Kept all of us sane. Every single one of them could have a stunning solo career and they do have projects on the side, but together they just knock your socks off. Do yourself a favour and make a selectiion from their channel Whatever you choose we'll be here to watch your reaction
another acapella group with a great bass is Voiceplay. they have a little mermaid medley hat shows off each person really well. there are 4 people in it, and they have guest join them frequently.
Tim Faust is said to have actually coached Avi on being able to sing lower. There are many videos that show the range of both then and Geoff from Voiceplay I believe it is and you'll see that Tim has the lowest range of the 3. Tim has a 5 octave range. The best example of that is the song Mayday where Tim sings tenor throughout the song.
So glad you liked them. They're a great bunch of guy's who really love what they do. They're all good friends and most of the time of there are extras it's family and friends. They can sing anything from humorous, serious, pop, soul of gospel. For a contrast try comparing these three. For humor try Champagne on a Beer budget....little cameo in that onne. For serious try Helplessly Hoping originally by Crosby, Stills and Nash. For gospel try How Great Thou Art. Earlier videos have Chris Rupp with them ... Cowboy hat. He left to pursue other things and Adam Chance aka Chan joined as baritone/bass usually ball cap. Enjoy. Thanks for a great reaction. God bless and stay safe
You should react to Home Free's Man of Constant Sorrow, and then MayDay (watch Tim turn into a Tenor) and Adam Chance take Tim's place as bass. Both songs also showcase Adam Rapp, their awesomely talented beatboxer, and Rob Lundquist (who is sort of their 2nd lead after Austin Brown, and Rob can BELT out soulful jazz, too)!
Howdy.. Adam Rupp, the human drum kit/beatboxer, is featured in a video, performing a drum solo, out there on RU-vid. Tim Foust, bass, has been known to blow out speakers, with his low notes. Home Free is just a fun group to listen to. Once you learn/hear more about Home Free, I suggest their cover of Mayday by Cam.
Home Free: Austin: Tenor Rob: Tenor Adam: Beatboxer Chris: Baritone, no longer with the group Adam Chance: Baritone, replaces chris in newer vids (Actually sang bass for a different group) Tim: SUPER Bass. Basso Profundo, the lowest of the lows. But surprisingly (pleasantly) has a well put together upper register for a bass. Tim is very comparable to Geoff Castelluci from Voiceplay (Check out "Blackbird Cover" by Geoff!)
You should watch Home Frees cover of a A Man of Constant Sorrow. You’ll really see what the Beatboxer can do with his voice and you’ll hear more of Tim Faust, their Bass singer.
Another acapella group you should check out is Voiceplay...they are also incredible...their bass is Geoff (pronounced Jeff) Castalucci, and he can go subharmonic.
For each person's voice I would recommend Chance on lead for Think a Little Less, Austin on lead for Love me like that, Rob on lead with End of the Road, Tim with Misty Mountain - Peter Hollins feat Tim Foust and the group harmony (no beat box or other human-made sounds) Helplessly Hoping
