Tim has her quote - "you really have some sick range there country boy" - on his website. I have rewatched this so many times - and it never gets old. And HF only gets better and better.
I love how Tim points to the ground to show low his next note is going to be the hits it EVERY TIME. Also, Austin is the greatest hype man ever lol. Great reaction Sir.
Tim with that eyebrow knows what he does to people with that note. I also think Jewel was crushing hard on Tim as well. I would of loved like a cutaway scene of just the other competitors' faces when he hit that note. Probably lots of dropped jaws 😮
Thanks for doing this song again. I go back to this one a lot, seeing Austin and Rob looking at each other just before Tim goes to the ground with the last note. All the guys are great with this song.
Oh yes, my favorite version of this song! I watched this way back then and this is when I said if they don't win it is fixed! Lol Oh and the look between Austin and Rob right before that last drop
You can see how talented they were already back then. Hard to believe they have only gotten better (like fine wine). Tim is a true bass who sounds natural going low. It does not look like it takes any effort. And Adam's beatboxing is stellar as always. And love how humble the guys are & supportive of each other. No divas in this group.
@@dianadickerson749 I agree. It wasn't really cool of the judges to focus on them so much and basically ignore Rob and Chris. They're all really good, so I'm glad that they are a strong enough group to not let things like that cause division. Tim and Austin seemed to have stayed humble despite the compliments and Adam, Rob, and Chris didn't seem to be the least bit jealous of their friends
It's crazy and great that the humble look you see there they are still this way. Even with the fame they have they are still humble and grateful for all of their fans alot of times fame changes people I love watching these again. Thanks for watching them again Dennis 3 octaves what's that. He will show you 5 or more. I still think it's more then 5 just because of how high he can go now. He did go higher on this song then he did anybody the other ones
Glad to watch this again. Still has me laughing out loud. First time I watched this I was glad to be using my headphones at the time. I still can't hear that last note without my headphones. I freaked out. It was amazing. That is why I prefer this version to their video, it is Tim doing all the heavy lifting.
Thanks for reviewing this awesome song with us from HF! My friend showed me this song because she knew I LOVE bass voices so....😵😋🤩 in that order as I told my hubby I still loved him but Tim was The Man as far as singing went (I ain't dumb😉)
This version is my absolute favorite because Tim's wonderful super deep bass comes into its own here. This is so great. Home Free is absolutely unique live as well, just fantastic. Love your reaction, thanks!
This is a great song. I picked them from the very beginning. I told me husband that if they didn't win the show I would never watch the show again. Then they won and the show was cancelled. Great reaction from you as usual.
I watched every episode of sing off from the first season and didn't remember any group but Home Free. Every time I heard them sing I thought to myself if they don't win I'm never watching this show again. They were stars from the minute they set foot on that stage.
Great review.. I believe that was the first time Geoff Castelluci heard Tim do that low growl live, and I think he's said it absolutely blew him away. Voice Play was in this season of the Sing Off, and to be honest, Geoff was not nearly as accomplished a bass god as he is now. Tim was the dude!
:) This is my favorite performance of Home Free. Reggae is my favorite genre of music in general, but of course I appreciate all kinds of music. The way they incorporated the reggae beat with my all time favorite Johnny Cash songs, was just magical to me! I listen to it nearly every day. Thank you for your reactions to their Sing Off competition. It never gets old for me.
Yay! \○/ Another reaction!!!! I agree with you D-Man that Mike McCary probably didn't ever hit that F1 chest growl note (aka dragon's breath chest growl note). I also agree that this was THE song/cover that elevated above the rest of the groups. The judges mentioned in another "episode" that there were not any other TRUE basses in the competition. It's my understanding that Tim worked with Geoff Castellucci (Even refers to himself as a true baritone that can occasionally hit the lower octaves) AFTER the competition on how to hit the lower octaves without hurting himself & how to sustain the low growl notes. Pretty sure the reason Austin grew his beard out was so he would no longer look like he was 12. 😁 When I watched it the first time (and had the sound system hooked up to my tv) the floor really did rumble. I didn't even have it set with bass boost either. I was like, "What the cat fuzz was THAT?" I then had to pick my jaw up off of the vibrating floor. LOL. My emoji would be: 😨 Would love to see your reaction to Peter Barber & Bobby Bass Waters doing the cover of Avi's The Summit and/or The Bass Gang doing a cover of Billy Eilish's Bury a Friend or Malinda's channel where she & 3 others do a cover of Hoist the Colours (even more haunting than VP's version)!
I have said pretty much exactly the same thing that the other groups in the back had to have just gone slack-jawed when Tim hit that last note. It was most definitely a defining moment for them in that show and when he dropped sub-harmonic in the middle of "I Want Crazy" later in the finale that was just the icing on the cake. Dear God that man's voice is just a freakishly amazing instrument to say nothing at all of the fact that the rest of the band is phenomenal as well!
You asked how we felt about seeing this for the first time. I watched the Sing Off over all its seasons (2010-4ish), and Home Free was the only group that I remembered after the fact. Sorry, Pentatonic and VoicePlay -- it was only when you surfaced in my RU-vid feeds later that you stayed in my radar. Meanwhile, been following and loving and respecting the members of Home Free ever since they won in 2013! What a fantastically talented, all-round group of guys, they are still my favorite a cappella band!
This video was shared to me by a friend of mine and made me a home fry. And then I shared it with a friend and it made him and his son home fries. I was shocked when I heard that F#1. And I was like, "How can a man go that low?" For future reactions, if you want hit those really low notes and have them be heard on the recording, plug in a microphone and have it close to you (like QoFy). Geoff does his recordings that way.
VoicePlay's performances in this were shaky at times, but their cover of "Play That Funky Music White Boy" was awesome. Having watched the whole season I can say Home Free was just unparalleled. There was just no question that they deserved to win. No one else came close. What I love about this is the look Austin gives Adam just before he drops the beat and then the look he gives Rob just before the bass drop. He was having fun just watching his bandmates slay.
Hey Dennis, great reaction, and hope you are doing well. If you haven't before I'd suggest watching the ring of fire video from Chris's final concert from 2016. All the best
You might have done this already, but apparently VoicePlay and Home Free were paired up for an Ultimate Sing-Off that never happened. It was Survivor and they recorded it later. It's on VoicePlay's channel. I think Rob and Adam have that sense of humor that develops after you have kids. The other guys are funny, too, but it's different.
Hey Dennis! I'm enjoying seeing these again, with you along on the journey! I love watching their performances on the Sing Off. I always recommend this version of Ring of Fire to people vs. the official video with Avi. I love Avi and that video is great but I personally prefer this version much better! And here are my emoji's (sorry! Had to pick 2) 😱🤯 I still react this way sometimes! See ya later!❤️😀🍑🍟
No One Can sing it Like Johnny Cash made it.....There are a bunch of songs that unable to be covered for me this is one they did an ok job{ :-) }...They did not do this one a long time ago(homefree) ....I could be wrong .... But great reaction on Your Part ...Thanks for what you do friend....your the best
I hated how the judges always complimented Tim and Austin but never said anything to Rob and Chris about how great they did. And someone please tell me who Ben Foltz is. I know Jewel and Sean but not Ben.
I actually like this version of Ring of Fire better than the one the did later with Avi. Maybe that's just because it's the origin of their arrangement, but I think this will always be my favorite. Sometimes Tim's hand position is the only thing that lets you know he's still holding that low note, especially if you don't have headphones. When all three judges stand up, you know you're in a good place. I love how Tim and Austin are so embarrassed when the judges compliment them. Tim actually has that quote from Jewel about his sick range on his website.
One of my favorite performances:) BTS have a new collab with Coldplay this Friday. Would love to see you react to their special PTD performance at the UN General Assembly yesterday in NY. Also an old video from BTS in 2013 called Beautiful which is a cover of Mariah Carey/Miguel song. 💜
I’m sorry but this live version is horrible compared to the version they did with Avi Kaplan. Mainly bc it’s arranged much better with the Avi version. The seem much more comfortable with the song in general. I can’t even listen to the live version after hearing it lol . If you haven’t already, you should give it a try! (I always start these comments before I search your page lol! ) great reaction though! Love HomeFree!
