Knob and tube isn't automatically dangerous. You should consult a professional.

In some situations you may be right, however when you have to crawl into an attic or a crawlspace to access your heating system and your surrounded by it is when its dangerous. Not to mention some of this wire was buried in insulation.

What you are describing is part of the knob and tube system, the white ceramic comes in 2 forms, a knob that the wire is wrapped around or a tube that the wire passes thru. This wire is very thin! Knob-and-tube wiring does not meet modern electrical safety codes. This wire is to thin to handle todays appliance demands.

Built in 1926, This house also had an upgraded 200 amp panel also, the knob and tube was not visible in panel however it was visible in multiple attic and crawlspace areas. Many home owners associate a new panel with a complete house rewire. That is not the case!

Do tell, how is bare wire that is not grounded good?

@@Therealhomeinspectionauthority It isn’t grounded. At least not yet. Some think it’s OK to leave it. While kinda cool and retro, it has a number of issues. The biggest is its poor deteriorating insulation. Second is its lack of a grounded conductor. Third is its lack of a proper center tap terminated neutral. Fourth, it’s limitation to 15 amps. Fifth is its poor heat dissipation. This wire needs to be free and clear. No insulation! In your video, you show bare wire with old batteries lying about. What are those batteries doing in an attic? I am thinking pack rats!!! These guys love chewing on old insulation. If the house is new and tight, that’s great. But older homes have furry squatters who eat insulation. Knob and tube or NM-B romex. Doesn’t matter. That is why I prefer EMT or PVC in those areas with THHN wire. A chewy condition can lead up to a slow evil arc fault!!!
