If they only knew the danger of smoking cigarettes. In those days it was something normal, although nowadays there are many more dangerous drugs, but luckily kind of under control and not allowed in public. Thanks for this video. I know all of these people through my parents and screen magazines and I always admired their talent and beauty.
Bogey passed away in 1956, so my guess is 1953-55. Richard Burton is only in his late 20's here. Lauren Bacall is quite beautiful, and her wonderful personality heightens her attractiveness. Frank Sinatra is a real joker here, and he was class friends with Bogey and Bacall. Even celebrities can have fun.
I agree, 53 to 55....Bogie actually passed in Jan 1957, but most of 1956 he was very ill and did not venture out too much subsequent to major cancer surgery in March (1956).
Wow, Richard Burton, incredibly handsome and slim with his 1st wife Sybil speaking to Bogart. Love these videos of the great icons of Hollywood. Thank you. Xxx
I was watching an interview before this where Sinatra's daughter Nancy asked Frank what kind of father he thought he was and naturally he says in the early days he wasn't around much and judging by these home movies, he sure was honest. He's out living the good life and Nancy whom I'm sure regardless of the help she had was always home with the kids!
Interesting people first.....THEN.....actors. Makes current Hollywood crowd look as interesting as wallpaper paste.....and that's an insult to wallpaper paste..... At least wallpaper paste doesn't preach to us little people on how WE should live our lives..... sigh......
I would never get on a boat with Sinatra and those stiff cohorts, like ducks out of water. Now Bogie a different dude and his friends not snobby types, but i kept looking for Katy Hepburne.
I just don't think of these folks as rich and famous-there was a warmth in our culture that they kept in touch with, and didn't act like friggin' prissy ass prima donnas. Speaking of today's generation, they are prissy ass prima donnas who are extremely dull as public figures, like Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, Gwyneth Paltrow-and it's also 60 years after this era, and celebrity has become so banal and routine. No magic, even deNiro and Streep are tiresome and dreary.
@@kateym7836 I'M PRETTY SURE IT IS BEFORE DOROTHY DIED. SHE DIED ON NOVEMBER 8, 1965, AND THESE FILMS ARE CLEARLY BEFORE THAT. SINATRA WAS MARRIED TO AVA GARDNER FROM 1951 TO 1957.
Humphery Bogart was a skilled and excellent sailer. His great love was his 55 foot racing yawl the Santana shown in this rare clip. I heard him remark in a sound bite once that if people didn't understand and appreciate the sea they should stay off of it.
I love Betty’s stories about Bogie. He was a well-educated, very sophisticated man. She said when they went to Africa to film African Queen, ugh, he was NOT the camping type & he wanted to get DONE & head for the nearest 5 star hotel!! This was great!!!
Well thanks! I usually get called dumbass around here. For my political comments, of course. But here, no politics at all. I sure would have loved to be a fly on the wall on that boat. Some of my favorite people were there. Bogie and Bacall, Frank.et al.
Very cool video. All the major players of the era and a very young Richard Burton and Arlene Francis Bacall, Bogie and even Arlene husband who occasionally appeared on what's my line.
An absolutely great collection of home movies of the rich and famous of long ago at ease and relaxing. Never saw these before. Thanks for posting them.
These were ladies & gentleman in every aspect . They made there mark & are still as popular today as ever. Haven’t seen this talent or sense of star quality in thirty plus years. What happen to Hollywood ? Thank you for sharing. Awesome..
Not just Hollywood. Look at the politicians, the media, the Newscasters (where's Walter). America has fallen as the rich corporate owners feed us lies and propaganda - (Fox News, One America, etc.) that naive fools believe
Arlene Francis and husband Martin Gable are aboard, too, I see. Were we ever really that young? Looks like the summer of 1965...which happened to be the summer of my life...fantastic time to be young and alive.
Great song, "The Summer Wind" :) thank you for sharing these. Stars are just people. We are peeking into their time together with friends having such a nice time.
Sinatra and Bogart were very close friends until Bogart's death in 1957, after which Sinatra became romantically involved with Bogart's widow, the actress Lauren Bacall; they were engaged briefly, but never married. Bogart, Bacall, Sinatra, Mike Romanoff, David Niven, Judy Garland and their spouses were members of the Original Rat Pack. One of the guests is Adolph Green, who wrote Singin In The Rain with Betty Comden.
Frank and Bacall never married because she told the press of their engagement, which annoyed frank, so he just cut her out of his life, never spoke to her again
@@flashdance5574 Yes. Sinatra was not always a gentleman. Though I believe he helped Ava Gardner (who had dumped him years before) financially in her later years, and that he paid for Judy Garland’s (first) internment. He had his moments.
Although they were rich and famous. You don't have to be to have fun. Find some water let your hair down and get your friends together. Sinatra hated being alone. This was right up his ally. Nothing better. And worshiped Bogart.
Thanks for posting these wonderful clips - and the musical addition which was just perfect - The boat by the way, was the Santana and belonged to Bogart and Bacall.
Pretty neat. That would be Richard Burton with Bogart at about 05:06. Also, perhaps director Richard Brooks an 07:01 and on the magazine photo on display. It just ocurred to me: there might be some to ask who Burton and/or Brooks are!
2 Tripp Lane lover Arlene Francis with wear that heart shaped pendant on What's My Line her husband Martin Gabel of 40 years gave that to her which was stolen from her while getting out of a cab New York by the way Martin Gabel is on the same boat
That was Richard Burton !!!! You can tell he was very hungover and was known for being a horrible alcoholic who frequently was passed out unconscious drunk somewhere in Bogie and Bacalls home while others paid him no mind. Thanks.
Yes-definitely the old and the new here ! Bogie and Richard Burton no less . Wonder if Richard thought back to his humble beginnings back in Pontrhydyfen. Most likely he did. R.I.P .
terrific film thanks ; I could identify all my favorites and then I saw a pretty blonde, she wore a necklace I have seen many times...its a diamond heart around her neck, ah yes, that was Arlene Francis ! She always wore that trinket....looked like a good time
Looks like HB had a bit of a row w/ Adm. Director John Ford at the end of this clip. Funny to see FS drinking out of a tin "Kool-Aid" cup, all he needs to complete this scene is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Whose the young woman to his right?
Not many. James Cagney is an example. He was born the same year (1899) as Bogie and died in 1986 as a non smoker. Bogie died in 1957 of smoking related cancer.
