I have been wanting to create this video but I always end up deciding against it because I always think that it's nowhere near I want it to be. What I realized though is that it's truly a never-ending process. It evolves as I grow and mature as an architect, as a creator and as a person. So today, I wanted to share to you this snapshot of my home office + desk setup.

Now that you have a few months on a curved monitor hue do you like it? Do the lines in AutoCAD look blurred or stretched? Do you use the whole 34” monitor for the cad screen or do you break it up with other screens?

I actually had it since April 2020. I like it. It’s a bit “weird” the first time you use it. For a day or two and then your eyes get used to it. Not blurred at all. It doesn’t feel like curved to me anymore. It’s actually nicer because the corners are closer to your face. I use it usually 2/3 cad, the other 1/3 references/youtube/etc. I rarely use it full screen. ☺️

It really doesn’t look curved tbh. It actually brings the edges closer to your eyes. There was about a 1-2days of adjustment but I love it. I would recommend it.

Thanks for the video! :) nice setup. How do you find sitting on your desk facing the wall? I'm having this dilemma of where and how to position my desk. A lot of interior designers seem to recommend a "commanding position" where you sit facing the room and the door.

Good question! In my opinion, that is a preferred setup in an actual office setting where people can come in and out. Since it's a home office, I don't find that to be a problem. With my setup, I can maximize the space and navigate around the room easily. Which is very important with my youtube/architecture studio. I am actually working on adding some key pieces to my setup. I'm in planning mode right now and making sure it makes sense before I purchase anything. lol.

Nice set up 👌. The vivo mount you listed says upto 27" monitor, how is your monitor mount holding up with the 34" monitor your using. Any sag?

Thank you! It sags a little when you hit it or bump the table excessively. It's doable though. I saw other people use it for their 34" ultrawide and that's why I tried it myself.

Do you have an issue with your keyboard and mouse disconnecting while using autocad? I am currently running a Mac mini and this happens a lot. I'm look to upgrade to the MacBook Pro 16.

That never happened to me. Sometimes, it would disconnect when I go from "laptop mode" to "docked mode". But never when I'm in the middle of using it.

Liked you setup, any idea about M1 Macs? Really want to jump in but not sure if that would fit in for architects' work loads.

I wish I can get my hands on it, unfortunately I can't do my own personal tests. Theoretically, it looks very promising. By simply looking at several tests online, spec wise, I think it should work well. One thing I can't find is compatibility with specific architecture programs. Although, I think eventually, won't be an issue. Personally, I would hold off and see what the MBP 16 with apple silicon though. Unless you really want the 13" size.

Jon, need your advice…Heartbroken, setup my Karlby with the linked Standing frame, but there is a wobble when typing (at lowest setting as well)… I use desk clamp mounted camera… so as I type or touch the desk the monitors & camera shakes… did you use the rubber gaskets between the desk & frame? Did you use the screws that came with it, or did you go with longer screws for the Karlby?

I used them… but I noticed just now on your older vid it shows the desk legs lay flush on ground, mine have 2 circular pads that are used for leveling.. on each “foot” so 4 total, wonder if removing those would help with my instability issues. Hmmmm did you remove them? I can’t recall if they came pre-installed.

@@AJCoReTV I have them too. Is the table top wobbling? Or is it the legs? If it's the legs, you can balance it using the pads.. If it's the table try reinstalling them and maybe reattaching the gaskets.

I use my Brother printer for 11x17 prints. For full size drawings, I use a local company. 😁 Not printing enough right now to justify buying my own plotter.

The desk base has screws to mount whatever table top you choose to use. ☺️

The weight capacity of the frame is 270lbs. Not sure about the desk top itself. It’s a counter top though so I think because the whole length is basically supported by the frame it can take quite a bit.

I’m using a single usb-c. I turn on the monitor, connect the usb c to my MacBook. Then when I’m done, I unplug the usb-c, turn off the monitor. My Macbook Pro just sleeps. I rarely shut down.

@@111Econ I think that’s old school thinking. The word “busy” does not equate to being productive. I think if you budget your time well, you can do anything. Wake up early, set boundaries, time block. Like I said, you make time for things you want to do. Also, I don’t game.

@@JonImperial how assumptive of me, your set looks like a gamers set to be honest. Further, being productive does not equate to being productive, I do agree to an extent. I just find it hard pressed to have an architect who is busy but have time doing RU-vid videos dude. Self employed architects usually work flat out and salaried architects work during normal hours. I’m no hater lol. Just saying. If doing RU-vid videos is a way for you to promote your work and become establish, maybe we can see some of your concepts and past works if you’re allowed to share and outside of NDA.

@@111Econ not sure if you’re trolling or what but I’ll answer this for other people. Idk why you keep saying “busy”. Doing RU-vid doesn’t take away from my time doing architecture. Anyone can do it. There are doctors, lawyers, engineers, moms/dads, etc. out there and they find time. Ever heard of the cliche saying “run your business. Don’t let it run you.” You can build your life how you want it to be. Also, just because you work long hours doesn’t mean you get more stuff done. I find it healthy for me to do something else and come back to it. 2020 kinda put a halt to some of the video ideas I had for architecture. If it works out, I’ll do them in 2021. Anyway... time for me to do architecture work now... or maybe RU-vid? Idk. I can do anything I want. Actually, I’ll sleep.
