I shot this short in late November of 2020. There was a lull in the ongoing pandemic, so with safety precautions in place, I made this short with 4 friends in a closed for winter cottage on Lake Erie.
I asked my friend Nathan if he wanted to be in it, and he asked if he could help produce it and if his friend Andy could be in it. Andy is a fantastic actor and it turned out to be so much fun nailing down our takes and timing on set. Nathan helped support and plan the production. Joel, the only other crew member on set was my AC, managing camera, pulling focus, and helping me with lighting.
When I first started editing, I wasn't quite happy with how it turned out. Reality sets in in the edit room and all of your mistakes are laid bare. So it ended up sitting on a hard drive for a few months. Eventually I revisited it and made it work. I also shot a few pickup shots that I felt helped the story.
One aspect that was new was getting original music. A friend, Glenn, was excited to score the drum solo that was playing in my head while we were on set and it was amazing to see him dial it in to support the story.
