I still love the fact 90% of the ways to deal with the dangers in this game is “Just leave and don’t fuck with it, big dog. That ain’t yo home anymore.” 😭😭
Hanks, i think, is the funniest but most important one to fail for a beginner. It immediately tells the player that some fails will have the caller being injured and / or worse. Your fate is literally in their hands, and they can't go on with some of these issues without your help. Also, May calling just to cry for her son and then immediately hang up was oddly comedic
I think May was gonna complain that it didn't help find her son when she noticed his corpse and broke down, not bothering to hang up the call as she rushed to him.
Yeah, a lot of these get a lot less scary and a lot funnier when you remember that they had to go out of their way to call your number before getting attacked Also, I think Hank’s complaint is intentionally vaguely-worded so that you’ll fail it and get that learning opportunity.
I’m frankly surprised one creature that is literally never once used or mentioned in the story are the Kobolds. Given the fact they mimic wounded dogs and are said to be HIGHLY territorial, there was way more than enough to make a call with them. Imagine this; a caller first starts by saying their dog disappeared but they still hear whimpering from their basement, and while they were about to go down and check, they heard something weird about the whimper and immediately went back upstairs. Giving the wrong answer gives a consequence call where the caller goes down in a panic because the whimpering stopped and they were worried their “dog” was dead, only for the kobold to surprise attack the caller from behind before they even get out a scream, the line goes dead while the caller screams “Get off me!” before they scream and the tearing of flesh is heard. Implying the kobold pounced and got them to the ground before actually starting to attack. Amplifying the horror by implying that Kobolds are unlike most creatures, alarmingly smart, ie. the owner was set off by the kobold’s whimpering, so it stopped whimpering to lure them in. Then had the sense to surprise them and get them to the ground before starting to tear into the caller. Genuinely think there was wasted potential that they’re never once needed in the story.
I just realized after reading this comment, I understood why dorcha has no calls at all, because if you have a dorcha problem, you literally can't call anyone, you're already fucked.
@@playinghuman that’s what I originally thought. But after listening to the two calls, I would think we’d hear structure damage. Or the info on it would hint at it. I imagine it’s something mystical, because of how you shouldn’t stick around and find out. I also think because other structure damage problems can be resolved and normally not simply ran away from, it was more. Leaving the location might be to avoid the noise. Like it’s a countdown noise to something bigger. Like with how you shouldn’t kill moles.
@@playinghuman I also didn't think her groaning was from being caught under rubble. I'd guess the singing would end if the building collapsed though. I hope they make another one of this, with more explorations of what outcomes happen, even if it is a run that randomly selects 5 calls a day out of call out of 100+ different ones ordered by difficulty and you just played it enough to know all of them. But a gallery to unlock failed calls would be good if that's the case.
New custom thing ig The Watcher The Watcher is a tall, deformed humanoid creature that likes to watch people (duh), their common spots to cause their business is windows, homeowners will report not being able to sleep, the felt of being watched. DANGER: Sometimes, The Watcher likes to "take a closer look" on the homeowner, they will begin scratching at the door and get inside, your doom is inevitable, SOLUTION: if you are being stalked by The Watcher, close the curtains of the window, if The Watcher is trying to get inside, find a way to get out of the house immediately, if The Watcher gets inside, HIDE AND DO NOT FIGHT, if you are found, accept death.
Gotta admire the balls of a game developer putting some of the best VA performances in the game as an indication of failure that you have a decent chance to never see. Some of them really sell the fear and/or sass. Thankyou for uploading this clean and concise compilation of all the clips.

I kinda wish the game had an 'intruder' entry Many of the callers seem to think their problem is due to someone breaking in so it would be a great twist if one of the answers was just that
Ooh, that could've been a pretty good twist. It seems like most people call the police first, and the police can tell when it's actually a problem for HSH. But if they didn't call the police first, and now they're on hold with you, and by then it might already be too late to help? Yikes...
@@playinghuman on the topic of it being too late i think a potential great mechanic could be timed calls, the caller is currently in hiding from the entry and you have to figure out what it is before they get spotted and the timer runs out, could really make for some great intense moments of furiously reading the entries as fast as you can

Another thing I think would be good is an option for nothing or transferring! Nothing could be for stuff like them complaining about faulty appliances which isn't a problem the HSH is needed for. As for transferring you could transfer to a higher up if someone has a clear issue and you don't have the proper info like if someone describes pink eyes and blooming (fae flu) but you don't have the info for it so you have to transfer them to someone like Carrol.
While not a bad idea for a game like this, I think that idea specifically betrays what HSH is going for as a game. All the entities are either direct pulls or consequences of celtic pagan folklore, and most of them already invade your house. To include a call where it's just a guy in their house makes it any other scary entity game, instead of the fantasy domestic horror about little guys ruining your life
I think it would be cool if there were secret "wrong" answers if you tell someone the incorrect thing but the instructions on how to prevent it were similar enough to where they still survived. For example, whistling fungi? Tell them to get out of the house by saying "Boggart" instead.

@@kennydarmawan13well leaving the house of Fungi because you told them they have a Boggart wouldn’t change much because they never had anything that could chase them to begin with, but if they have a Boggart and you told them it’s just some Fungus in the corner or something then they could be at a motel next time they call you and make the mistake of giving the Boggart a name or identifying description, implying that they’re about to draw the thing to their location It’s either gotta be the fastest Boggart in history to do that or just a mere implication that you saved them for the moment but they fucked up due to bad info
You know what would be scarier (or more chilling) than all these calls? A wrong call that THANKS the player. You know, a call that's meant to tell you that you're doing something wrong ends up having a call that thanks the player for helping them. The only threat for that would be something like an Evil Counterpart.

I came up with a concept that works like a "False Friend" called a "Yam". One of the draft calls I did, the caller talks about a "friend" that everyone keeps telling him is behaving odd but he doesn't know what they are talking about. That his "friend" has been living with him for weeks and they've know each other since pre-school. He does mention that they were listening out for a noise in the wall together. Now, a Yam is a human creature that simply seems like a human, only lonely people are targeted, they also see it as a person more friendly and approachable, believe that it's their friend and has been for a long time. Despite not talking much, the Yams target constantly have conversations with this "friend" and only refers to the Yam as their "friend" and will never use a name or any other descriptor. People outside of the victims personal life may not notice anything, but anyone somewhat close to the target by relationship will notice the odd behaviours and not know anything of this "friend". But the Yam will refuse to elaborate, having the target always making up reasons and excuses for them, being extremely defensive. The Yam will live with the target, always following, always watching, never sleeping, but the target just won't realise. The Yam will drive its target to do reckless things till death, mostly including trying to kill them indirectly through supernatural means. Might as well tell you how to get rid of it, because it was an in Joke with friends back in College. How you get rid of the Yam is to simply get the target to directly refer to it by its name, "Yam". They can simply ask, "Is your name Yam?" and it'd work. Once the Yam hears and knows the target address they are Yam they will simply walk away and disappear. Very anti-climatically. "Haha, very funny, you tell the best jokes... Yam." and then the Yam will literally drop whatever it was doing and go away leaving the target confused. In this first call, failing it just has the caller go, "I knew it, you are all just jealous that I finally found a friend that understands me, that wants to talk to me. I don't need you, or them." Then the next Yam call has a red herring, The caller talks of noises from a closet, description sounding like a Kobold, which is correct, except. When he explains it, he says thing like, "Me and my friend noticed it the other week..." "My friend is scared, suggests we prepare to fight it, scare it off before it attacks us. I thought I'd call first." Failing this one by picking anything but "Yam" will cause the next call to be a different voice, "Hello there, the person you talked to can't get to the phone so I just wanted to say, thank you on his behalf. Thank you... friend. (Call ends)"
Can I just say I love that in the middle of all the strange and horrifying calls you get, randomly in the middle you have the curveball that is just Paul and his bed bug problem lmao.
I wonder if, for Jill, she did go to a parallel universe where she really was the daughter of another family or if the parallelism made her misremember their identities. What even is "parallelism" for her case?
That's what I'd like to know. Like is it that their brains recognize that they walked through a door, therefore they have to be in a different place surrounded by different people (even if nothing is actually different)? If it's that they're sent to a parallel universe, what happens to the version of themselves that they're replacing? Or does it just cause confusion? Tell me your secrets, game!!

Honestly, -Clint- Edward's call was one of the most chilling. Hearing the long pause then the clattering with the angry troll was heartbreaking because you _know_ he died during that encounter.

For me the most scariest call is actually Patty, just hearing how the call didn't even pick up and is just the voice saying "please try again later" indicating that she went through the portal and can never go back is scary
You know, some of these callers don't seem to be in a position to call you back, and there is at least one confirmed case where a caller is DEFINITELY not in a position to call back. So who's calling back?
I think I generally accepted that complaint callers were the same person until Wanda called back. After Whiskers was taken, I figured either "corporate" killed her or her house collapsed from structural damage. Plus it seemed to take a while for her to call back. Then when she did call, I was extremely suspicious and started to wonder if the Fae replaced her with something...
And considering he startled a deflated troll (which I must tell you that trolls inflate back to its original size when STARTLED), yeah I can agree that things didn't end well for Edward

Damn these voice actors did a really fantastic job doing this. Makes it so real and more horrific events they face. Amd the tone of their voice. And make the characters humiliate you for making wrong choices. May scared the shit out of me, who ever played that role deserves an reward.
You know what i dont see a lot of people talking about? The leprechaun, the dad was in the room making a call and it STILL couldnt resist ripping a filling out of the kids mouth, vicous little monster.

I am sure that being outside dangerous as well. These dangers just inhabit houses. If you remember, in one video, there was a missing person alert. It was actually about a boy chased down by false rose bush. Being outside is dangerous as being inside
With these hidden behind failure states I think it would be neat to have ‘Confirmation’ calls too, especially with some of the more hopeless/dangerous hazards-
The child's teeth hurt because of the leprechaun stealing the braces right out of the mouth. That, and the heating has gone out because it's eaten the metal components.

In a better universe we'd already be playing HSH2, where you play one of hte "Removal Teams". Sort of an SCP/BPRD/MiB thing, but with this game's vision of a world choked by superstitious and household myth. One imagines that this change has to be relatively recent- not so new that (some?) authorities and caregivers are ignorant. The CDC seems to be reacting violently to the Fae Flu, understandably. But it can't be a generation old because there's no school classes teaching you stuff. That should be in FIRST GRADE man. Maths and Grammar don't mean JACK if an old microwave sucks you in and slowly, slowly kills you as you pound silently on the glass. Also, sadly this will massively multiply the trash culture, with people aggressively and impulsively cleaning out their houses. Once this knowledge becomes universal, we're going to see a lot of "anti-hoarders", people who fling any potential hobb-bait out into the street. Though a faint slver lining, maybe a few regular hoarders will be cured when the fae start inundating their home in used syringes.
The point of those entries are to act as red herrings to try and throw off the player. For example, the Fae Feast caller describes a rotten egg scent coming from the kitchen, which is part of the Trash Gnome's entry and may trick the player into choosing the wrong one
I think the portals IS the main reason why all these creatures exists. We heard what happens when a person goes in, they're travel beyond the earthly plane, which is more likely where all these mythical creatures arrive. Based on how most of them can 1-shot a human, and how they never said you can use a firearm or weapon to get rid of them, they're also NOT natural looking, even if the natural ones DO look natural, they don't act like their regular, earthly counterparts, like the Spriggans being a literal plantimal (Plant and animal) as well as other creatures emitting effects that no REGULAR creatures do. The Portal's entry sort of explains it.
You kept getting wrong answers when you played? Yeah, sometimes they try to trick you on stuff. 😭 A lot of it is reading the entries and looking for keywords that are also used in the calls.
I love how some of the voice acting is amazing and then for some reason on other characters they have what sounds like teen girls voicing 40 year old dudes.
