Ok man i gotta ask because even just your 3 mic setup the toms sound killer. What drums are those, what shells and what pres are you using? I am using the Wa87 R2s as overheads, do you think the 251s are a better choice for drums?
Hey Thomas, the drums are Dixon Artisan Limited kit with 6 ply African Mahogany shells in a custom white sparkle lacquer. As far as your question on WA-87 VS WA-251, I honestly don't have an answer because I feel both of those choices are incredible. I think both are great overall picture of your cymbals and kit, obviously there will be differences in the way mics sound but at that point it's personal preference and what you want to hear.
Thanks for the info, man. I'm getting ready to do a blues project, so this comes at the perfect time. Which method would you use (1-4 mics) for such a session? We're going for a live, old school, blues sound. Ambient, a little "trashy", some bleed-thru, etc... Also, the drummer has a heavy hi-hat hand. Any tips for reducing the amount of hat I'm gonna pick up? Thanks! I'm a big fan!
@@mannishboy1 This is not the guy to ask. His hands are two heavy on the cymbals for this setup and he’s blowing out the mix with all cymbals and not enough meat in the drums. You have to self mix with minimal miking. Go to Blair Sinta’s channel for a guy who has more to offer than a mic sales pitch.
