Ahhh the KISS principle in action..."Keep it simple stupid" Absolutely ingenious...wish you had been my neighbor as a kid. serious dedication my brother. Figured you for a fellow Canadian but might as well be, Minnesota/Canada same way of life really!! Great Job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just did a homemade version of this and heads up, at -18C if you stop for more than a second the towel freezes to the ice. Then your stuck in one spot as the water keeps pouring out. Kind of funny actually. And yes I had hot water in the bucket.
That’s awesome I have a big rin to do on the lake I think I’m gonna make one motorized with a scraper and a heater for the water but man that simple and it works so good my guess is the bottom of that garbage can acts like a scraper knocking off all the high spots before the water sweet I’m gonna go try it
Yea every winter I come up with master plans for complicated ones with scrapers and heat, but something like this probably does 80% as good for 1/100th the effort
Right now I'm thinking about putting a drum on a handtruck with a hose and rag like he did, and attaching a bit of angle iron to the underside somehow so the weight puts pressure on it.
Very cool; does a good job. I'm guessing the trash can has little holes for the water to leak out? Wouldn't a hose on low with the board behind it be easier to handle and a lot less awkward on the corners. Just guessing; you probably tried it. Makes me want to build one myself now.
Hi Dallas, I purchased this kit from IronSleek. You need to buy the trashcan separately. After I received it it actually is a pretty easy set up to build on your own. Here's the link: www.ironsleek.com/backyard-rink-components/ice-resurfacer
I think they sell those garden hose nipple attachments that you can screw in as a nut on the back of it. PVC or vinyl hose a ball valve to control the flow and it looks like just a towel at the end. Just a guess on how I’d do it.
That's awesome!👍👍 I've seen a few other videos, but they got a little complicated or expensive... was still cool. Did you insulat the waste/water bin? Again, great idea ....that's a nice sheet 🤤🏒🥅
No need to insulate...short 40 ft from the Hot water Spicket in the house, roll out the sliding door and onto the rink. Extra Water is still steaming when done.
This looks great! Just what I need. What size pvc pipe is used (1 1/2?), how long are the arms on either side (12”?) with the towel around? And how large are the holes drilled into the pvc to let water out? Thanks!
Found a. Chap on Craig’s list that sold them. 10’ * 20’ and stitched them together with zip ties to get my desired length. I needed 10’ height to protect the house siding from wild pucks😂
The games have come a very long way..I am hopeful that the 2021 entry will not be a simple copy and paste..I have heard that a totally new game will come out next year...great fun
Dont explain whats going on?? Whats in the garbage can? Whats he using as the squeegee?? Im obviously not a ice guy but want to build one for my kids..instructions on what he used and was doing would be nice :/
Easier and better way , get two 50 gallon drums in the middle of the rink fill them with water then push them over you will never have a cleaner and fresher sheet of ice in your life .
I fill about 1/3 as hot as I can get it on a cold night (10°F or lower is the absolute best for resurfacing in my experience). You can skate again in 10-15 min on a cold night. I resurface after the kids are done skating every day. You also need to shovel off all the remnants from skating before resurfacing.
Do you find that hot water works better than cold water? And do you just fill up the bin with water from the tap? Also, is there a shutoff valve in the bin or somewhere so the water doesn't just come out right away?
Hello, definitely prefer hot water. Makes the rink like glass! I have a walk in shower in my basement that I roll the trash can into for the fill up. There is a shut off valve on the hose coming out of the bottom of the trash can. Flip it to open and the water starts flowing. Very easy setup!
It never fails, there's always a jealous mean weenie in the comment sections. Awesome job, your kids are blessed to have a father like you. Happy new year and may God continue to bless you and your family.
