Wonderful reaction video. What I got out of the very first line is that the soldier expects to be buried where he was wounded "These mist covered mountains are a home now for me". got the tears going right away. The writer was also calling the opposing soldiers his brothers in arms, "Every man has to die, We're fools to make war on our brothers in arms."

A small correction to your comment: the name of the bass is not Juka, it is Tuukka Haapaniemi. Tim contacted him and told their plans to do the song and Club for Five sent their arrangement to HF.

I have always loved this song by Dire Straits but think Home Free did an excellent version of this song. Tim's natural breathy bass was awesome along with Chance's smooth baritone & loved it when all the guys were doing 5 part harmonies. Who would believe humming could sound so good. They gave it a very solemn feeling. These guys are my favorite a cappella group out there.

Thank you for playing that song. you know we sit in your homes and the media paints one group of people as socialists or worse and another group as Nazis but i think it is strange that when I step out of the house. I just see people. Sometimes hurting people. people that I can ask if it is ok that I say a prayer for them. Or they play forward and buy my groceries like a total stranger did because I forgot my wallet. We didn't care about each others politics. We just cared. Don't let hatred rule us. Give peace a chance.

Enjoyed the reaction and the comments. It brought to mind a song called "Christmas Truce" by a Swedish metal band called Sabaton. Their video duplicates an incident that is historically accurate during WW1 in Europe. The video is superb and if you get a chance to watch/listen do watch all the way thru the end credits paying attention to the voice over the credits.

You mentioned that you like Chance’s voice. I have a few suggestions: “I Can’t Outrun You “; pure 5 part harmony, Chance directed the video, and it’s hauntingly beautiful; “Cover Me Up “, an emotional song; “Workin’ For a Livin’”, their take on Huey Lewis and the News, with a nod to “Anchorman”. And for another 5 part harmony,”Helplessly Hoping”. Two must do Rob leads are “End of the Road”, which is stunning, and “Blue Ain’t Your Color”.

The ghostly images of Tim and Chance framed in the windows evokes the POW-MIA flag, to me. Imagery in this video carries a lot of meaning as well. Tim's slow and minimal movements during his parts shows a weak and fading character, as well as his breathy singing shows effort to be heard as he speaks to his friends.

The phrase brothers in arms has been around since the 1480s for fellow soldiers and knights, perhaps modeled on the post-classical Latin frater in armis, a “brother in arms.” In the military, there’s historically been emphasis on the concept of fraternity and camaraderie among soldiers, and brothers in arms represent such a mentality.

I spent 12 years, 4 Enlistments in the Army. War stopped me. I went to college and got a MA in World Religions. Reentered as a Captain becoming a Chaplin. Too many deployments into Afghanistan. Forced retirement in 2020 because of Diabetes. Total time was 22 years 7 months for my Army. This song floods my mind of all the young men and women that I held their hands over injuries both physically and mentality. When watching that last breath leave the body can never be forgotten.

This was written by a brit after the Falklands war. What you should notice about this song is that they are emulating a church pipe organ for much of it. You already had a handle on Rob (Ten 2) and Austin (Ten 1), now you've got a handle on Tim (Bass) and Chance (Bar) so it's time for you to listen to their cover of Mayday (you should watch this again immediately prior to watching Mayday). So Tim Foust is the Bass with 5+ octave range. He can actually sing high tenor in falsetto. Chance is the Bariton/Bass and he covers bass when Tim sings lead and has a 4 octave range himself. Adam Rupp is the Vocal Percussion but also can sing Tenor (seen in How Great Thou Art as well as here). Rob Lundquist has the beard and is the silky tenor, and Austin of course is the high tenor. There was also Chris Rupp who sang baritone/bass and was co-founder of Home Free with his brother Adam. Those are the main members since 2013 when Home Free was on "The Sing Off" show. Chris Rupp left in 2016 I believe and Adam Chance, called Chance to not confuse with Adam Rupp, replaced him.

They are widely considered to be one of the world class acapella trifecta, along with Home Free and Pentatonix. Many fans love them all. They are the 'theater geeks' of the aca world, often using costumes, makeup and sets to enhance their songs/videos (but not always). Always fantastic musically, and always entertaining. One of there new songs is Listen to the Music by the Doobie Brothers. They have so many great songs in different genres that one can't really come up with one favorite. HF is definitely using their God given talents to reach everyone. I appreciate that they don't bow down and conform to what the world wants. They are respectful to all people and don't use sexual visualizations and/or vulgarity to sell. They are close friends and families and have fun! I apologize in advance for how lengthy this is going to be. First Verse: picture a young man growing up in the Lowlands with the certainty that he'll live out his life there. Then his nation goes to war, and he answers it's call to arms. He eventually finds himself fighting pitched battles against a determined foe in mountains very unlike "home". He faces the horrors of war, the kinds of things that keep PTSD sufferers from sleep for fear of the ensuing nightmares. He is wounded grievously and realizes these mist-covered mountains is where he'll end life--he'll never see his home again. Politicians and industry leaders create war between nations and divisions among their own people. But it is not them, but mostly the working class who bleed and die for things they hardly understand. The imagery shows light from outside coming through the singers causing a ghostly appearance. This is entirely appropriate as these voices could very well be coming to us from the echoed voices of soldiers down through centuries upon centuries. War is and always has been man's best effort to create Hell here on earth. Indeed we are blind to reality of who creates wars/divisions and why. But every young man in the Army of his country is a brother in arms as is that guy in the mob across the road We disagree only in how but we both want the best for our country. The last line rings al too true. We are fools to make war on brothers in arms. Only a fool would do the fighting and dying of war for the people who created the war.

Wow, just before 11:00…that started me into a panic attack…this also a bad time of year, I’m good now, but damn, that was rough, funnily enough. Good at when he talks about needing to die. That doesn’t bother or scare me, been close many times since I was 4-6 from outside elements, my fear is dying without helping, without aiding my buddies…reminding me of a mission during the surge, at least partially. And an event that happened almost -8 years to the day ago, minus a week or so…that was horrible, and no matter what I did I was helpless, couldn’t do anything useful…I was 17 then. My friend was the driver, the car had a mechanical failure, the left front a arm broke, causing the crash, my senior yeah of highschool, I got him out, but couldn’t get her out…the car crumpled around her legs…I had to be held back as I tried…I shoulda died from the head on impact, let alone been conscious and moving…I was moving and trying until I couldn’t get her out…then totallly crushed…I failed. Even worse her mom and dad, who I knew…apologized to me, for not saving their daughter…this happened in just over 18 years from today, was 3 days after thanksgiving…yeah, fucking funny. One of the few things that always hurts, and wrecks me, on top of everything, my failures, her parents apologized to me, for not saving her, as she burned, and I couldn’t do anything by he pulled out, held back and not help. I still hate myself for not doing anything useful, and living on top of that. I made them take my buddy and the guy we got, first…I still lived…to stubborn to die, then, and too stubborn to try to kill myself, but still hating myself, especially this time of year.

Home Free showed their diverse talents, yet again. I love their arrangement of this piece, though if I am not mistaken, another a capella group called 'Club for Five' created the original version. ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Gerr99h0nS8.html ) As I round the bend to the 'fall-time' of my life, I spend much more time to drawing from all of the many experiences I've lived through. Not that I live in the past, rather, that I draw well learned lessons - from many of which I smile with satisfaction and of course, along with those that make me cringe also! I grew up listening to the Dire Straits' original and loved it so much that I saved up my allowance monies to purchase their CD. (remember them?) I think I did the impossible by totally wearing out the disc. An interesting aside was that I once had my car broken into and the only thing the thief/thieves took was my beloved Dire Straits, Brothers In Arms CD! Taking a cue from your comments - though I was angry at someone who broke into my vehicle, they redeemed themselves a little to me, by taking only that particular disc. After the rage was through, I thought that whom ever stole that CD did have some very good tastes and was prompted to have some moments of reflection. This concept help me move on from that incident. Though I have never been to war, my heart weighs heavy for all those who had to go through literal hell. I am certain that there were many unwilling combatants who never went/came home. How tragic is that? It seems that humans have not heeded the profound lessons of war and devastation. May we recognize the powerful negativity we all posses and perhaps, morph that into something much more beautiful. I still have faith in humanity...

By the way, in the interest of internationalism: the song was written by a Scots-born English-Hungarian-Jewish artist, arranged for acapella by a Finnish group (Club for Five), and sung by an American group. And while the release was timed for the US Veterans Day (many other places say Remembrance Day), it was not really about any one nationality - it is far more pro-soldier than pro-any particular country. May I suggest (of course I may, I am doing it now), that you give a reaction to James Blunt's recent song The Girl That Never Was. He addresses miscarriage from the father's perspective, with as well a great empathy and understanding of the mother's emotions in that situation. And I did not find on your Video page that you had covered his Monsters, which addresses the imminent death of a parent, and has some psychologically interesting contrasts.

Home free is incredible. But when it comes to same old Female metal singers. You really need to listen to Zora Cock of Blackbriar There is no one like her. She is doing things vocaly no other person is. And the music production is up to night wish or Epica standards. Check out Weakness and Lust for example.

You can’t understand this song & it’s deep meaning can only be those brothers & sisters in arms that have gone through combat. Any other conflict you suggest pares in the experience & impact on soldiers go through.

I strongly suggest you go straight from this to their cover of "Mayday". Tim Foust (the guy who doesn't look like a bass) starts "Mayday" too (although he has longer hair in that video, it's the same guy). I just saw these guys live and they're so much fun. Great sense of humor. As you go through their catalog, you'll get to see more of it.

This 1985 Dire Straights song was about a Falklands war soldiers who is mortally wounded and as he is dying talks about the brotherhood of his comrades and the futility of fighting each other. This was released for Veterans Day 2021.Tim Foust is the bass singer, he has a 5 octave range and can also sing higher tenor ranges. The background vocal harmonies are fantastic and the the last two notes sounded just like a church pipe organ. This to me is one of their signature masterpiece songs. Thank you for your great reaction and you have a blessed day

I have a friend, and army officer who was responsible for returning our soldiers who had died in the Falklands. To be able to do your job while retaining the utmost respect for the sacrifice, especially while the deceased's brothers in arms were standing right there. He spoke about it at a Memorial Day presentation at the Antietam Battlefield in Sharpsburg MD where more American's died in a single day battle then any other time in our history. Moving on so many levels!

Yes Rosalie. Now you know why we love HF so much. The bass. The baritone. THE HARMONY!!! In my opinion this was music award worthy. Now you go from this to DO YOU HEAR WHAT I HEAR and you realize just how brilliant they are at what they do.

Rosalie, you pretty much nailed it all. I consider this their top masterpiece (they have 2 others - Helplessly Hoping & How Great thou Art). This is a very very special cover of a Dire Straits song, written by the Straits leadsinger Mark Knopler in honor of those who lost their lives so needlessly during the 1982 Falklands War between Argentina vs the UK....the parts where Home Free is singing just notes & harmonies in the original it was all guitar solos. It's an extraordinary song lyrically. Home Free has used this platform to carry the messe that they think is important be damned what retaliation it brings them. When we had civil unrest in 2020 they produced, to me, one of their more profound videos - its a cover but a powerful one, written by Paul Kauthen, called "Everybody walkin' this Land" I urge you to react to it, and make sure to listen to Tim's message at the end....it's also showing that these guys continued to work & produce music even during the Quarantine times. I also urge you to explore some of their originals, and being the daughter of Cuban exiles, their cover of Brooks & Dunn's amazing song "Only in America" will touch your heart too.

Home free has a lot of patriotic videos. But you should check out Everybody walking this land. It'll tell you everything you need to know about HF in my opinion. If you decide to do that video make sure you listen to Tim's message at the end. They got a lot of shit for that video. I guess people were arguing with Tim and alot to people unfollowed them. They never waver from what they believe

As much as I adore everything about this video, you need to watch the original by the composer, Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) as well. It's very different and gorgeous too. Mark's guitar will give you chills as much as Tim did. I love both arrangements. I agree with everything you and HF said. Time is way too short to be angry. Loved the reaction. Thx!

Thanks for the reaction, good to see they did not disappoint, in this for them ' Deep Stuff' when it comes to sending a message but the harmonies on this are unsurpassable. They are usually a lot more cheerful, at times quite goofy even. So what next from them to listen to?. There'll be plenty of recommendations no doubt which is inevitable with Home Free being so versatile. Personally, my recommendation is just to pick a song from their list you know and like to see what they can do with that, they just won't let you down.
