I absolutely love that. The guy perfectly knows how to show expressions without overreacting. You can truly feel the sadness and anger in his performance.
@@5H4K490 by that logic the only thing keeping you alive is the self control of all nuclear powers yet you still criticise governments. You have to stand against evil and not be a coward.
@@KD--sj8eo why would the world leaders nuke their own countries? like they are earning billions and enjoying their life with no limits, I doubt only a unintelligent sociopath will choose an exploding country over riches
ShnoogleMan unfortunately homelander is in a different league from all the other supes. She would at best give him a nosebleed before he decapitates her
If she had the ability to pop his head im sure she would’ve done it the absolute first chance she got. Really if anybody in the entire show had the opportunity to kill Homelander I can’t see anybody not taking it, it’s in nobody’s best interest that he stays alive
@@RealCanadianGoose i was talking about his reputation, and stormfront kinda gave him back his popularity with the memes so there's that still going for him
@@gaiusx287 They are talking back to him cause they can't imagine for a second that he would actually harm them. If they knew how close he was to just massacring all of them, I don't think they'd have pushed him like that.
@@MK_ULTRA420 Nope. Its not a marketing scheme. Stillwell outright confirms that no weapon on earth could even scratch Homelander. She is shown to be completely terrified of Homelander. Because she knows he is practically invulnerable.
@@user-cx9un9fs7qI'm sure it can be both. As sociopathic as he is, he just doesn't mind killing those he feels justified about stopping, but he's still human and at least semi-functional, so I don't think he'd enjoy seeing hundreds of children sliced up like deli meat as a person. That would require a level of deranged that he just isn't. At least not at this point in the show
@@TobesAnimation Nah, he doesn't go on a massacre because he doesn't want to be feared only and alone all the time. He might have superpowers, he might have been raised in a lab, but he still is a human being at the core. Nobody wants to be completely alone. Sure, he has a lot of mental issues, but he is at least smart enough to take these drives out where he can manage to swoop it under the rug, like killing people in Syria or small time gangsters on the streets.
@JustChizzin The thing is, Trump isn't nearly as powerful as Homelander. He needs aproval/red tape/etc. Homelander can literally do whatever the fuck he wants
The look on his face after he did it...It looked liked a combination of horror and anguish. I haven’t read the comics, but it seems like he wants so desperately to be loved and respected but doesn’t know how to in return
And there's another level to this where I think he gets tired of being so restrained. He actually wants to help people but he could flick a finger and it would break someone's neck, he probably constantly feels like he's living in a house full of glass and hates it.
In the following scene, he's rewatching the footage of him making a fool out of himself and has fits of crying and laughing, unable to control his emotions.
Imagine if that really happened and the episode ended just after this, with a silent, close-up shot on Homelander face after he lasered all these people... The hype would have been next-level !
@@VladtheInhaler I just hope they won't use the "hallucination" card anymore. I was so hyped for this episode when I saw the promo last week, and it's a bit disappointing to find out that it was just a dream sequence
grimmjow13 It’s only season 2 . If you rush something like this the damn series would be over in about two more seasons. Just let them build it up first .
Ashleys fear at the end of this scene is surreal! She’s afraid for the people, of what Homelander might do to them. She’s still so traumatized after what she saw. It’s pretty sad.
Part of me thinks they want to keep preserving some element of humanity to Homelander prior to the full descent into insanity. He’s a monster but a layered one. We see in the day dream that killing that crowd brings him no joy, if anything he looks on the verge of tears at the end.
@ᴘʀɪᴍʀᴏꜱᴇ Oh definitely, I don't think he feels bad about killing them per say but the love of the crowd is literally the only kind of love Homelander ever felt in his life. So pretty much everytime he does something good or even just restrain himself, it's for the sake of his reputation, the sake of the only real love that anyone ever had for him. That's why I think trying to ruin Homelander's reputation without having a real way to actually kill him like the Boys are doing is just silly and reckless. As dangerous as Homelander is now, its nothing compared to how he'll be once he has nothing to lose anymore. You gotta have a plan to kill the monster before removing his chain.
We discover Homelander's weakness... he wants approval and the love of people... when he lost his ratings he took it very hard, and the memes that made fun of him... lasering people would be totally against that desire
I love the contrast : first he enjoys killing those people, and right after when he realizes people don't want him, you can feel his sadness. Amazing actor
@@asims5335 Well seeing as Homelander in the show has been said to survive every weapon known to man (Which would include nukes), I think it's safe to say she can't blow up his head, maybe give him a slight headache at best, remember, as easy as it looks, she's only done it to normal humans, or supes like Shockwave who don't even have superhuman durability (As in he's more durable than the average man, but he's not going to be able to say, take a bullet to the chest, or head and walking away with his life)
@@omarsameh7103 Yeah, but breaking the laws of physics doesn't actually mean anything though, if it did, than A-train would be on par with Queen Maeve in durability, and from what we see in the show, he clearly isn't, so, yeah, poppin Shockwave's head means nothing, at BEST, she's is RIGHT below a missile in terms of striking power, which again, would mean nothing to Homelander
@@aidanling4025 I think Stormfront is trying to take over/take down Vaught. The FBI director said something about an internal coup within Vaught right before her head exploded. Queen Maeve just wants to take down Homelander.
But that's because the show has influenced your view of the character. It's almost exactly like protesting the military or a government. They _can_ order someone to kill you. Bomb your hometown. But you don't expect them to. They've gained your trust in that regard. It would be illegal for them to do that, and there would be consequences. All of this fits in with Homelander too. It's illegal for him to kill the protesters, the public trusts him not to kill his own, he has never been seen to do anything of the sorts, and Black Noir would be sent after his ass if he ever did. That's why the protesters feel safe, although I grant you It's not perfectly analogous.
@Viktor the victor Exactly. Plus the audience knows a lot more about Homelander than the public does in the show. It’s perfectly reasonable that they have no idea how unhinged he is.
@@Durzel Precisely what I was getting at. What makes Homelander different is that he alone wields such unimaginable power. For us humans to kill as many people as he could in 10 minutes, we would need an entire combat force. This is of course unlikely to happen because it would require more than just one unhinged mind snapping, all having the same crazy ideas at the same time.
@Richkillz It really isn't. Personally I think the ACAB stuff is stupid, but it doesn't matter. There is no natural force, no mental lock that would stop a police officer (or anyone armed) from firing into a crowd. What stops them is the consequences that would follow. What makes us feel safe is their track record - the likelihood of them snapping. Again, this applies to Homelander as well.
Just came back here after the Season 2 finale, and noticed an interesting detail: Keep an eye on Neuman from the moment Homelander shows up. She never takes her eyes off him once. Now, it's obvious why: if she's actually working for Vought, she likely have blown his head off the second it looked like he would snap and attack the crowd. So realistically, he would have died the second his eyes glowed.
Wow some people are really so stupid. If you can pick up a five pound weight does it mean you can pick up a 5,000 pound weight? Lol fanboys are dumb as shit. 😂
@AR - 09WS 704501 Heart Lake SS We don’t know how her powers work: she was able to kill Shockwave, so she might be able to kill other supers just as easily.
In the comics he was actually fighting himself wondering if he really r*p*ed and killed Butcher’s wife. Out of all the things he did that was the one thing that scared him.
You know what stands out most to me in this scene is the face Homelander makes after lasering the crowd. It seems there are more sadness and pain in his face than rage. Like he's so obsessed with being loved by everyone having a whole crowd boo him would hurt him deep down.
I'm pretty sure that's what she wanted to look like when Homelander appeared. It played very much in her favor to have him appear in front of her and diminish her with his superpowers in front of people and cameras 😉
SanjiMakesEdibles I’m holding out that this Noir will still be the [spoiler person]. He has survived incredible damage. I hope they make him more bizarro and mutated instead of a perfect version.
@Richkillz yeah if you see the comics, black noir was created for the purpose of killing homelander in the case he goes full on psycho. However, after seeing this recent episode, it seems the powers have been altered. Stormfront, aka liberty, is very strong. She took his beams to her sternum without cutting her through. In the comics she is a man and gets ganged up on by the boys and some other russian super hero and killed . So we will see how the show plays out
@@mohammadsaeed1321 the show is obviously very different from the comics. I'd be surprised if they went for the original black noir arc at this point. It would also not make a lot of sense, considering, well, everything.
Literally and metaphorically, the people who are truly powerless in this scene are the audience. I was scared of what he would do to the senator, now I'm wondering what would have happened had he tried.
I mean theoretically she would have tried to kill homelander if he went ballistic on the audiance, but I think regardless she would have died along with the audience, the only one who can keep homelander in check is himself ;)
homelander's Jaw's clenching and its micro movements, really sells the emotion. Absolutely love this scene. Btw his australlian accent was much much apparant in this scene
Its a fucking tough job that actor has to play. He has to send us the audience signals that he's barely keeping his shit together and wants to kill everyone, while the character also acts just nice enough that it feels believable so you don't start asking why people don't immediately turn and run for their lives every time creepy superman he shows up.
everyone in this show was so perfectly casted, but serious props to casting antony starr for homelander. his voice, his face, the movement and stage presence is so perfect for homelander. no one else could play homelander as well as starr could
The last episode in season 2 seems to go the route where he says F**k Vought with Stormfront and Black Noir will fight them in the next season. Or Stormfront will screw Homelander out of vought and she becomes the leader in season 3.
@@romondoto2630 I’m not talking about the movie, I’m talking about the concept of Superman vs Batman. In dc Superman always gets beat because of a stupid green rock but in the boyz , homelander doesn’t have a weakness and has shown he can kill butcher whenever he wants so it’s better , imo.
It's moments like these that remind me how lucky the DC universe is to have the Kents be the ones who found Clark's space shuttle. They raised that boy right.
I love how they laser effect in this show. Marvel lasers knock people down, maybe singe their clothes a little, they get back up and return to the fight. Homelander‘s lasers cut through reality like a goddamned deli slicer. No death twitches, either. People go from complex living creatures to splatters of wet meat in a split second. It’s horrifying.
Although I get your point, how often in marvel shows and movies do lasers hit ordinary people? And even when it comes to iron man's repulsor blasts, they're typically concussive and not made to blast holes in people cuz he's not...vicious?
@@B1ackxUnicornx lmao captain marvel blasts through a heavy reinforced door but it doesnt blast a hole through their body when she directs it at someone?
One thing to note is that Homelander doesn’t shoot them. He kinda drags his laser to act like a sword. Even when not going sideways he’ll drag it straight down like seen in the cabin.
@@mintberrycrunch4064 literally is though: a young congress woman and homelander references a dance she did that was published online much like AOC's dance at university.
Prepping every ounce of strength for one big “emergency head explosion” if she needed to. Probably wouldn’t work but looked like she was ready to give it a try as a last resort
I have to say, productions like The Boys is making me appreciate comics a lot more as an entertainment medium. I never really read much of these types of comics and always thought of them as juvenile, but I'm extremely happy to admit I was completely wrong about comics books.
Spider-Man : Hey everyone. Everyone cheers with joy and excitement. Homelander: Hey everyone. Everyone complete and utter silence. Trembling with sheer fear.
Its just great to see exactly how devastating his power set is and how truly unstoppable he is. So far he seems stronger and more durable than in the comics. No idea how they’ll kill him
Data Boss what are u talking about did you not see this episode he killed one in Africa, hell this season he obliterated blindespots ear drums and let him bleed out and he killed doppelgänger
Uh no. He almost kills Starlight as he casually moves her ribs in the elevator and Maeve is scared of him. both of them are not exactly weak heroes. Black Noir is the only one that can stand with him in a serious fight since he is the Vought deterrent against Homelander StormFront is a tier below which is why she wanted to calm Homelander down before he decides to seriously try to kill her, but she can resist to an extent such as resistance to heat vision.
The pit in my stomach when I saw for the first time was unreal, upon re-watch, I just noticed how shitty of a backhanded compliment the "You guys are the real heroes!" line is
That look in his eyes after he realizes what he's done. I mean sure he felt good doing it but he almost looks... remorseful? Until he snaps back into it.
He almost looks.....lost Confused, we’ve seen Homelander throughout season 1 be on top, confident, basically the man who was untouchable. But here, we see that he’s falling apart, everything that he knew....it’s basically falling through his fingers.
Guy shouldn't even be there. Last I checked, you are not allowed to vote or participate in political events, rallies or protests while in uniform. Unless of course, this man was discharged beforehand.
Drinker_Of_ Milk Maybe Homelander had that law reversed when he wanted both civilians and soldiers to rally to let supers join the military, and now that reversal is biting him in the ass?
Anthony Star plays Homelander to the T! There's even a small moment when he takes the mic from the lady that he actually looks like the comic book version with that big cheesy grin, it's amazing. You couldn't cast a better actor to play Homelander in a million years.
I knew this was a dream or fantasy because homelander praises public option of himself greatly! Despite I wanted it to happen, so the world can see at last what he really is, a piece of shit in a shiny wrapper !
I was casted as BG talent for this scene. At 2:40, I'm just to the right of the "Not a Hero" sign. This was a exciting scene to be a part of, regardless of how cold it was this day. Anthony Starr and Claudia Doumit were just as entertaining off screen as they were on it. I would love to be a part of season 3 once they start production! 😊
