We recently took a boat ride up the American River from Discovery Park. The homeless camps are right up to the water, with people bathing in the river and discarding trash without regard for whether it's going to end up in the water. Having the right to live on public property doesn't give you the right to destroy Sacramento's most beautiful resource.
How Could They?! Bathing no less! Got a home for them? NO? then how about you Offer Solutions, Not Snobbery. Got Garbage cans for them? NO? Do you have Anything other than; "Ew Ick"? no. No you don't.
Offer garbage services. Do you think if the city put a dumpster put for them they wouldn't use it? Do you think that would cost more or less than the cops that are going to be used to throw away everything they own throw em in jail for a day and dump them somewhere else?
Your a idiot there homeless meaning they have no place to live other then the streets. What do you want them to do?they can't have trashcans, bathrooms are are not public or even close by everywhere, they can't afford to go to a gym for a shower. Be greatful you have a roof over your head cause it maybe you that is next to live on the street. I know why don't you buy every homeless some housing if you can't then please don't judge them for things they can't control.
Rent has gone up in Sacramento from a $1000 for home to $2300 for that same house in just 3-4 years an it's like $1000 to just rent a single room in Sacramento area .....all the corporations that are taking over the houses in California....it's all bad but governor Newsom don't care about regular people
I've been going down to the river every since I was a Kid. These People destroyed the river by throwing their garbage everywhere, doing drugs (Big Time Crankers) Drinking and who knows what else they do. I use to take them dog food for their dogs but these people were such A-Holes that I won't even deal with them anymore.
We have a homeless woman camped out in front if our apartments who smokes her meth pipe every morning. Sadly ther are several school busses that pick up multiple kids in this are. I'm so frustrated with this issue, & the cops do very little to solve the issue. She also prostutes herself. I've seen a van drive up with 5 guys, and a pizza🍕, take a number and wait their turn. I call the Police and they are gone before the 👮♂️ cops show up ( 2 hours later). 🤦
@@flutsfluts a lot of time it comes with restrictions like there animals being taken. For some that's all they have left, that is what keeps them going day by day with a animal that won't judge them and there only friend they can turn to. They take more care of there pet while sacrificing there food so they can eat.
@@bellaswan1459 How ironic. You talking about them being treated like animals. That's because they CHOOSE to live like that. They don't want to be part of society. I know, because my cousin is a police officer. He offers homeless people ample amount of information to get off the streets and they emphatically refuse. They want nothing to do with society. They just care about their drugs. I have stopped giving them money decades ago when I realized I was in an essence enabling them. As long as you give them what they want, they will never get off the streets.
If every social worker getting paid to perpetuate this problem was required to take one or two of these people home with them problem would get solved pretty quickly.
A grade scale of pay would be a good start I think. The social worker who gets more people rehabilitated should get paid more then the person who gets none.
@@User-54631 Social workers are paid very little, especially given their level of education. But they are not doctors or miracle workers. And they don’t have the power to enact the kind of actions it would take to actually turn people’s lives around.
Gee it your right to have a safe place to live, Food, Clean Water etc ? I had to WORK all my life to have what YOU want for FREE. Be a Dishwasher, A trash Pickup person, A Bus Boy a Waitress. but DO Something instead of expecting EveryThing in your life For Free but guess what us Taxpayers have to pay and suffer for your Entitlement !
That man is ridiculous in his statements. If he doesn’t want to work then he needs to move to the desert away from decent human beings, all they are roaches.
Let’s give the homeless their own city where they can live and only. I was homeless before and I lived in a tent. That motivated me to get my diploma as adult. Then I graduated from college.
I live near Discovery Park. I bought a home there to be near the bicycle trail. It has turned into a disgraceful mess. Riding my bike over the bridge into midtown is just disgusting now. Something needs to be done. They are digging into the levee endangering the Natomas neighborhood. They start fires and if the fires jump across the GardenHighway, neighborhoods could be in danger. I hope they actually do something. It is truly out of control now.
How is it that you all can go against that supreme judge that said you CAN NOT kick people out unless you have a housing for them rancho Cordova doesn't offer nothing they tell us to go down town
They do have some where to go!! They're being given opportunities and options for help and they're choosing to stay on the street because they have no rules to follow. It's disgusting.
Those opportunities you speak of guess what comes with restrictions o yeah don't forget they may be rejected and yes that happens. So no they don't have anywhere to go the government and people like you won't let them. What's discusting is people like you treating other humans less fortunate and no voice like there trash.
Getting rid of homelessness has become industry. With the average Non profit CEO in Ca making 150-250k a year. I pose this question. What has government, advocates, or activist done to improve the situation in the past 20 years?
I have seen this movie before... San Francisco 2008; after the recession San Francisco's housing went up 200% homeless skyrocketed over next few years making SF the highest population count until Sacramento beat the homeless count for the first time THIS YEAR 2022. Sacramento is experiencing rapid growth and more expensive than ever since pandemic. Sacramento unfortunately has a minimum 10 year stint with increasing homeless populations that will continue to grow and become a huge issue.
Okay!? So where will they go .. ? We can keep kicking them out .. but they will just go somewhere else and create another problem for someone else.. we need a solution beacuse this is just temporary
Just force them to either go to a shelter and earn their stay there by doing small work around the community like cleaning areas, or completely get out of the city and live in the forests away from our kids! We’re just enabling a bunch of them to stay as drug addicts right in front of our faces while complaining why are they there !
Yeah no. We love our forests and pay lots of taxes to spend good quality time there with our families. We deserve better too. They need to start taking responsibility for the nesses they leave behind and we need to help them do so with trash cans and public rest rooms that everyone can use. The people cannot pay fines. This part is laughable. Put them to work.
@@aztecfighter5 Starting with you, what form of impaired thinking makes you think all homeless people are insane? Better hope your don't fall into some hard times and people advocate for locking you away.
1:56 Rehabilitation shelters in old warehouses to house, educate, put them to work cleaning up the parks and sidewalks and doing maintenance etc...and get them off of the hard stuff. As they earn money, they can pay back the taxpayer and restore order to the communities.
@@sarbantz my 70-something year old crippled neighbor lady is being evicted from the house she's been renting for the last 11 yrs. Helping her apply for a gov't low income apartment, wait list is 2-4 yrs. I'm a renter on SS barely getting by plus over here in Plumas / Butte / Lassen / Sierra counties we had so many people lose their homes to wildfire the last 2 yrs. Why so snarky? I'm just expressing empathy for people who have no shelter.
It's good that you are expressing empathy. But please also understand how having a tent in front of your business with witnessed drug use will badly effect business. Or how many of the current fires are being caused by homeless. Not all of the homeless are people displaced by fire or renters who can't pay. Some are just mentality ill or on drugs that don't care about productive members of society like you or me. Hope your neighbor and yourself don't lose your homes. Best wishes
@@mrmc2003 thanks, my empathy for the homeless peeps doesn't exclude my empathy for local residents and public areas like sidewalks etc. piled up with unsanitary conditions for hundreds or thousands of people. It's so hard to dig your way back up in society once you've become homeless. 💔I know from experience... The nationwide shortage of affordable housing really is a crisis. Lived 28 years in Alameda Co and got priced out of renting....landed up here in snow country 5 yrs ago. 🙏 Thankful my rent is cheap for this 100+ yr old old house. ✌️
@@Destiny-bt7oi While there are a few homeless that fell on hard times due to circumstances and want / need help, look at most camps where they are over run with garbage / needles and such making me think they don't want to be part of society.
For them to say that they have a right to it means we don’t need to pay our utility bills than right? Or rent, or any other bills than either? It’s a struggle out there. For most of us! No free rides or parks!
@@natethegreatog I said the act of being a landlord is much like that of a tick or bed bug. They take earnings that come from labor for the right to stay in a home they did not build and barely take care of. They don't work. They just sit and collect.
@@donov25 this comment makes zero sense in the real world. How do people pay their house note? Should all land be free to live in? How would that work? I want to live where you are, now he does too, so does she, so does they then theirs hims hers whatever you call yourselves now!
There is no shelters for them to go and mental health treatments are a joke takes forever if your even lucky to see someone. Been battling depression for over year couldn't see anyone cause they didn't bother to schedule anything and hung up the phone several times. It can take 1 to two years or more to see anyone. Rehab cost money they won't do it freely.
Why would animals have more rights than humans? A few campers haven't done as much destruction to the earth as cities, towns, mines, farming, landfills, etc...but no one's in an uproar about that. People are just as much of the environment as any other living creature and we all can be more respectful of everyone and everything else. If you don't want people in a curtain area, then give them a better alternative, that's the American way.
That's what most want to do as if they may not be homeless themselfs. Those people are the real trash the ones that show no compassion or understanding drugs or not. They could lose everything tomorrow and be in that spot. It's discusting to treat human beings as if they mean nothing.
a labor camp for the criminals, homeless, and drug addicts is a possible solution, reducing foreign imports and producing domestic products meanwhile discipline these degenerates into working members of society.
Homeless or short on money, there's something I can't give up on, walking. I don't drink or smoke like the men. I can't do that, not even once. The people who could give me money, I would tell them that.
You do realize that jobs don't fall from the sky right? I'm not homeless but I've looked everywhere even fast food. I at least wanted to work so I can get away from the abuse. It's fine though I don't plan on seeing next year.
When a city makes homeless camping a crime, what are the poor displaced people to do ? If we had any kind of social support network in this country, those people could be immediately housed.
Are you willing to take in a random homeless person or two? You don't get to vet them and the are still able to use drugs / drink if they want to . While there are a few homeless that fell on hard times due to circumstances and want / need help, look at most camps where they are over run with garbage / needles and such making me think they don't want to be part of society.
@@bobroberts2371 also majority homeless are in fact people that fell on hard times and if you lived on the street and drugs were your only reprieve so what?
labor camp in a vacant state is the solution for these homeless, criminals, and drug addicts. these sheltered, compassionate activists can move in with them and support them.
The mayor says "careful what you wish for" I think the citizens should say back "careful what you allow to happen to our community." These homeless are almost all mentally ill drug addicts, often times felons, who city governments are allowing to camp for free next to elementary schools. I think city government officials who allowed this to happen across the country like Sacramento's mayor should be forced to do hundreds of hours in community service cleaning up all of the needle ridden camps that they allowed to form.
First no there not all mentally ill or drug addicts. Two 95% Turn to drugs cause they can't get help they need. Where you going to put them huh. You disrespect them and offer nothing.
Wait until the judges step in. Judges aren't supposed to make law, that's the people's elected representatives job. These activist judges need to be dealt with by citizens.
Them people rather be in jail anyways free living with free food. You think they care if they got put in jail for try to survive. There out of the weather now
First no not all are getting paid that amount will not get you anywhere no place to live. The free cell phones are for those who can't afford it not just the homeless and no they dont get free streaming services.
People who say these bums need help doesnt understand that this state has a massive list of companies trying to help but they rather do drugs and drink
No you don't understand you can be homeless and told you can't get help, there are waiting list that are years away from a possibility, no guarantee you will even be granted help. FYI it cost money for those services most will only take them for 15 days that's it. Not all do drugs.
WHOA... finally the minority of druggies, losers and insane people are NOT BEING GIVEN SPECIAL TREATMENT at the cost of the safety and well being of law abiding peace loving citizens!
