Similar story here bro. Got illegally evicted twice (no notice. boomers just brandished their firearms and told me to leave "NOW") in the span of 1 year, and decided to just forego renting entirely. I've been running my own Welding Business for 3 years, and am currently looking for a night shift job to effectively double my income. Currently stealth living in an old busted camper that I've parked in the middle of the woods. Hoping to get some land in the next year or so.

Homelessness doesn't have to be only due to eviction or drugs or even job loss. I became homeless for 7 days while having a job, a credit score of 800+, emergency savings of $10,000+, zero crime record, zero arrests, and I never did drugs. What happened? An accident that I could never predict or avoid. My neighbor was fighting with his wife. Personally, I could care less about their drama because I lived happily by myself in my own studio apartment, which was adjacent to theirs. And one day their drama got out of control. The husband decided he didn't like his wife any more and needed to get rid of her. He set her bed on fire while she was asleep(based on what she said later). One day early morning, I woke up at 5AM to neighbors' screams: "FIRE! FIRE! RUN!" So, I got up, opened my door, and saw fire approaching my house. I grabbed keys, phone, and urgently put a bra (couldn't even find a T-shirt) and pants, and ran out for my life. That day I had to go to work without knowing where I would sleep afterwards. That neighbor was taken to jail, but I lost my housing in one hour....and I had no family members, living in that city at all. My family is all over the world, but no one is my city. Being a low-income person, it was less scary to sleep on the street while keeping emergency savings for more urgent needs (like food or medicine) than to waste my savings away in a few days/weeks just on first-found expensive hotels. And given the fact that it was in Florida, I knew I could survive the night without freezing to death and much clothing until I find truly cheap hotel/motel and stay there while searching for a new living place. It was the most scary experience in my life. During two months after the fire incident, I ended up sleeping for 7 nights on the streets, 2 weeks at two neighbors' and two friends' houses, 1.5 weeks at 6 different cheap hotels, hostels, and motels, 2 nights at my storage, and 1.5 weeks at the shelter for homeless(for free). Nobody helped me deal with fire losses. The owner didn't want to cooperate. He was too preoccupied with his own property damage and profit loss to even bother thinking about my housing loss. Yet, it was his fault that the property had no fire extinguishers nor a fire alarm system. And it was not my fault that someone else at his property committed arson. But I am still thankful that he at least returned me my monthly rent and my security deposit. I kept asking everyone on the streets and at work for rentals. Eventually I found a family who agreed to rent me a room for $700 a month with everything included. So, I recovered from not having a place to having a place in two months. I learned a lot about homelessness. Not all homeless are addicts and mentally sick. There are many homeless who go to work full time but still can't afford housing. And I totally understand that. It's actually financially better for them to be homeless as this allows them to have savings and even investments. But having housing would take away all their money. The fact that I found this cheap room is only because I speak Spanish. The Spanish immigrant family verbally agreed to help me. But with English only, that opportunity would not be there for me. And Spanish is NOT my first language, nor English. I am from another non-anglo and non-hispano country with my own language. I had to learn both English and then Spanish as my second and third languages for my own survival in the US. But I digress here. So, some homeless people are actually very tough, resilient, and mentally brave. I thought I was "tough" and "strong" by living low-income all my life. But when I met some homeless people on the streets, I realized how spoiled I was. Having quick access to a shower is luxury, having privacy is luxury, having safety is a bigger luxury, and having a quiet place to sleep is the top luxury of all the luxuries (even among regular non-homeless people). Again, I had some other luck ( besides being trilingual).It was weather. I knew I wouldn't freeze in hot weather. But the disadvantage was also getting dirty, sweaty, and stinky within hours. And that kind of dirt feels sometimes more than just inconvenient and more than just disgusting....it gets to a point of somehow being humiliating - BUT ONLY if you are brand new to homelessness, like I was. Some people stay homeless long enough where they overcome the feeling of humiliation and go beyond that. Now, looking back at what happened, I don't regret going through this because I proved to myself I can salvage myself from any obstacle. It made me stronger, although at the time of sleeping on the streets, I cried a lot and didn't want to live. Similarly, at the time of just coming to the US, I cried and went into a culture shock and depression. But now, looking back, I realized that the tragic immigration experience made me stronger: it actually made me trilingual and tri-cultural. So, I don't regret going though it. Pain and obstacles always feel bad, but they always make us stronger, tougher, and even better people afterwards as long as we learn to let go of clinging to the injustice of it all. And I also met many happy homeless people. Sometimes, I had to ask them what their secret was. They seem to master well one skill only - enjoy the present moment and that's it.

It’s too bad you didn’t have renters insurance that would of paid for your hotels at least for about 30 days I think, but you still may have struggled to get a place. That landlord is extremely selfish as he only cared about his loss and not for you who lost everything! Too bad you didn’t sue him or try to sue him also.
@mrniceguy423
@mrniceguy423 8 месяцев назад
@@AuntNessie-u2e No smoke detector is suspect. That is supposed to be working order, but nearly all well-maintained places require renter's insurance in the lease. They don't enforce that you have it. It's required to protect the building owner. You can skip the $5/month, but that's your call. If housing providers had to pay for all tenant possession losses rent would be even higher and apartments/housing would be in even shorter supply. I hope to build my own place some day, or do the land purchase and build a small, mobile tiny home to avoid higher property tax theft.

I noticed quite a few people living in small sail boats in Miami Bay. I spoke to a couple of them and realized it's another way to be homefree without being homeless. It's absolutely free to live on a sailboat on a mooring. And you have your own house that you could technically take anywhere in the world. These sail boats cost anywhere from 2 to 10 thousand dollars. So it's actually less than the first, last and security deposit on an apartment. So what the fuck are we still doing slaving our lives away doing the most boring and life sucking activities most of the day?

I sold or dumped all my possessions and now live in my car. I live off my meager savings. In 2022 i spent $4000. I go where I want and explore whatever wilderness I can find that im allowed. Im sometimes jealous of the people with toys but i remind myself of all that entails and am content with the choices I have made. Most people don't acknowledge they are choosing to be homeless or wage slaves. Defaulting into either homelessness or wage slavery seems like similar fates for unthinking types. thats a very interesting way to put it. But I had a similar thought, even thought about making a video about it, how basically "stupid people are happy, and Im jealous". @johndiss
@johndiss Год назад
@@TomScryleus There's a lot of material to draw on that suggests we imagine our suffering. Ancient Greek philosophies and Buddhism, etc. But, being Ill and feeling relived of your obligations is very interesting. The problem with stupid people may be more basic and therefore difficult than it seems. They might not be stupid at all but rather average. The difference between a person with an average IQ and a person with just a slightly above average IQ seems to me to be the difference between those that think and those that don't think. That's my anecdotal theory based on the masses I see not thinking and the creators I see expressing their thoughts. I'm sure there's exceptions. I'm also sure there's studies and statistics on the subject. I don't believe that an average person or a stupid person is condemned to a mediocre fate. I think they may be more susceptible to conditioning because examining it doesn't come naturally to them.

First of all, you are someone that I would like to have as a friend. I live in America and all anyone wants to discuss here is video games or sports. Anything more profound ends in awkwardness or a brawl. But because I can't find anyone like you to discuss such out-of-the-box topics, I feel rejected and lonely in this superficial society. Everything here is about money. It's an addiction that is killing all of us (see wars and climate change). In 2007, I went through a divorce. I didn't have a job/career. I had been a stay at home mom (America hates those). I was pursuing my degree in anthropology and graduated that year. I was 42. I felt American society was a sham and had failed me on many levels. So, I sold everything, got my degree, and moved overseas to teach English. Selling all my possessions was the best I had ever done (besides the divorce). Traveling the globe, no mortgage, no car, no stuff was It was a wild ride. Fast forward to 2022, after a stage 4 cancer diagnosis in China, during the pandemic, I moved back to the States to try and find some love for my country. I had some savings and have been traveling and car camping in national and state parks. Geography never fails to awe. Mother Earth did not intend for us to live under such prudent, oppressive conditions pursing wealth for a psychopathic CEO. I have cancer again. I can't afford healthcare here. I'm 60 years old, and for now, choosing to live this way, in my car, because it is the only time I felt free in this country. Living on my own terms. I assure you, the coffee tastes so much better, on an open fire, under the leaves of trees and warmth of the sun. We're monkeys, meant to live in trees, in packs, eating and sleeping when we want to. We shouldn't be living at the behest of a greedy pool of wealth addicts.

Freedom will always be an illusion for humans, because we function as a system. The idea of freedom is only appealing because our behaviors are policed by institutions rather than by our fellow humans. If you lived in a band with other humans who know and trust you, you would take no issue with not being able to do whatever you want whenever you want. In fact, it wouldn’t even occur to you to do anything differently. When everything you do is policed by institutions that are basically owned by people who don’t know you, don’t care about you, and don’t even see you as a human being, then of course you’re gonna be miserable.

And there are a lot of us (vagabond, hermit, tramp, etc.) I'm a squatter and a land pirate. And yes, you can do that with an agreement. I'm from Belgium and in Flemish we say "dakloze". Literally translated, someone without a permanent roof over their heads. I would also call myself "homeless". In the sense that I do have a roof over my head and the basics (water, electric). But can't really call it a home. The government even calls it illegal. The freedom to be able to leave at any time is worth it to me. It pains me to see how they are ramping up the witch hunt. Friends that they now put in social blocks and go all the way backwards. Because we are not allowed to live in freedom. And yet we have a right to exist!

And while the majority of the homeless are that way due to personal life choices such as addiction, I chose it for the soul purpose of stripping myself of any and all financial obstacles. Traveling around with no costs. Working every week and actually being able to keep my entire paycheck. Investing every hour of my life I devoted to a company into various investment vehicles only to watch them grow. No bills to worry about. It really was an experience you have to live to understand. It changed me. Once I came back to "civilization" you look at life from a completely different lens. You don't blindly live paycheck to paycheck like a robot, you do it as a fully cogniscient human being who knows it's a complete waste of time. Because you've already acclimated yourself to rock bottom. You know that the things you work to obtain you don't need. You don't need anything.

Most homeless are mentally ill or on drugs. But a certain percentage are just tired of the system. I was one of those people for 7 years. I lived very nicely because I could make money with ubereats. Then went and laid by the pool. Got all my meals for free. Had to give it up because I met a nice gal but I am working towards being free again.

Honestly the worst part for me when living out of my minivan was the cops bothering me in the middle of the night. Homelessness comes with a lot of restrictions here, and it’s hard trying to make money while also being artificially denied basic needs like sleep. There’s some good private programs, though, working to combat this. It’s terrible seeing industrious members of society being harassed and restricted by the government from living and working comfortably because they can’t pay the insane housing costs, and they can’t adhere to the strict schedule of shelters (working late or far away, or needing to catch up on sleep is a no-go for shelters).

I've been homeless twice and for me it wasn't something I enjoyed. It's a very uncomfortable to be in so I strived for more in life because that's what I wanted in life. When I was homeless, I got to interact with people who were homeless for years and they didn't look so happy as you portray it to be. I'm not saying all homeless people are unhappy but the ones I encountered weren't so happy. I think with happiness, it's a state of being content and with some they need a big house and with others they don't need much. You just have to find what makes you content and happy. I'm still trying to find what makes me content but I'm building towards that slowly because my life didn't start until my 30s. In some countries I’ve been they had a river, clean water, plentiful fruits and vegetables and wild boars and fish to eat.The place I visited was an archaeological site in Taitung, Taiwan. The aboriginal people of the Philippines made boats, discovered Taitung . It has mountains, rivers and the Pacific. Mangoes, pineapples, coconuts on the tress and on the ground. It looked an idyllic life . They didn’t have to work too hard to survive . The temperature 28c-37c .

Tom another very clever and excellent video , thank you. Some facts : In my country we have many gypsy (roma) people. I can say that although very poor, they are always happy , smiling , singing. I beleive that they are happy, because they belong to a community , and they feel safe , and never lonely. And of course they feel FREE FROM RESPONSIBILITY. On the other hand we have money, but we struggle every day in order to bring food to the table, to buy services , cars , homes , institutions, etc etc. Some words for the homeless: In our country, its a fact that the homeless people dont want to get back to the system, because their freedom has become a habbit. Its very difficult to bring a homeless to do normal work, they dont want it any more. BUT they want a decent accomodation , and this is undestandable. If you ask a homeless people, what they say is that they want a small place to stay, (food is always easy to find). But they DONT want to return to a normal job, because they feel FREE. (and they dont go back). Some 4-5000 years ago,EVERYONE was like homeless, and they were HAPPY. (NOMADS). But earth was belonging to nature, and they could go everywhere , but NOW is different, EVERY SQUARE METER OF THE PLANET BELONGS TO SOMEBODY (EITHER THE STATE OR THE PEOPLE OR THE COMPANIES). So if you are homeless , YOU CANT GO ANYWHERE, NOTHING BELONGS TO YOU.

I am not a big spender (the only things I enjoy buying are books) and I almost always buy stuff of big quality. I feel more happy owning stuff and possessions because my happiness comes from peace of mind, that no matter what the future brings, I can resolve most problems with just money or that I have the freedom of choices.

I was homeless for 6 months and it was actually amazing for the first 3. I was street performing and playing my guitar all day to make money, I was making all the money I needed to eat and more, and I would sleep under a tree or bush at night, and it was like camping honestly lol. Then it got cold and everything really sucked. I met a lot of other homeless people and many of them were pretty happy it seemed at first but then i realized many of them had drug or alcohol problems, some of them had mental trauma , pretty much all of them had one or the other and I am not sure if its what made them homeless or what happened after they became homeless, possibly both. Also I should point out I might have not meet a significant portion of the homeless community that isn't in the public or plain sight because I am sure some people out there are probably living their best life in a 100000 rv traveling around and they started out as a homeless person in the streets, so potentially my view on most homeless people actually being unhappy is simply a testimonial that has no merit. Moral of the story from my perspective is you can be happy and be homeless and you can in fact enjoy it and save a lot of money and still dress nice and do even more than you could do before.... expect to carry a lot of stuff around at first and it still takes a lot of work and motivation and dedication but it is way more fulfilling and way more of a journey than a boring 9-5 job, at least for me it was. Make sure you have a plan or at least some grasp of how you will survive the winter or move near the equator. Also be careful to not get sucked into daily use of alcohol or drugs because you will be surrounded by it and you will have to avoid a lot of situations at first until you figure out how and where you can live in the streets.

I had a job at a production line of a luxury car manufactorer, made good money, but had to wake up at 4:30 am. I often thought about and even mentioned it to one of my coworkers, that the homeless are better of than us who work. He thought that I was crazy when I mentioned it to another person. I thought about the words at the concentration camp entrance: Work sets you free and compared it to my life and felt like a forced labor worker. Most so called 9 to 5 is like forced slave work. Forced because of the bills that need to get payed, work, because almost all of us are not passionate or feel joy to do the work. It is a job we do for the money and give away the most precious thing we have, our lifetime, to get it. I felt jealous of the homeless person who have their lifetime in their own hands. I am no longer working at the production plant, I am not living in a barrel yet, like Diogenes, but it does not seem as such a nightmare to live of less and have more lifetime instead. Oh thank you for addressing this. I have been looking at life deeply over many years (since a young age) because something always smelt "off" to me- just not right, and pondering some out of the box feeling about being homeless. I came to a conclusion that it can be a way of escaping this messed up reality/unreality that we exist in. Some people maybe are homeless by choice, intentionally removing themselves from the "conditioned trappings" we are taught to see as the only way, as it is a way of really being free!?.... There is a man I see regularly when I go shopping who sells a magazine called the big issue. I always smile when I go past him, I say hello, occasionally buy a magazine. Today I chose to buy him some food, and gave it to him when I returned my trolley. He touched his heart from where he was standing, and I knew he understood my intentions were genuine and coming from a place of love.

We are all different, but I think you have to take in consideration actually being homeless, truly experiencing being homeless. And what other problems that brings, like say safety and comfort. I have never been homeless and I pray I never will be. Not being a wage slave and having a decent home would be more ideal.

Hi Tom even though we are half a world apart, and you are younger than me I really enjoy this wage slave content. Here in america we have lots of homeless, who knows what their story is, im half homeless , as my career is a commercial driver, I get to see lots of places and sleep where I want, but it gets old and lonely, now I'm starting to Visit Costa Rica, its Awesome....k

I like this line of thinking because it breaks away from the paradigm of thinking that is common nowadays. I have been homeless. The one thing I can say is that it gets brutal during winter months here in Billings Montana. It gets cold. This is a deep concept with many convolutions. But I would say that its not all that bad if it ain't cold! Sleeping under the stars can be a liberating experience.

Thank you for your honesty. A lot of people say the best way to live life and be happy is to serve others, whether it be your family or those you know. And then others say you should put yourself first and strive for what you want, kind of like what your saying you want to do from now on. I try to be balanced in my view, so I really do believe you can do both at the same time.

I lost my higher pay rate during the pandemic. For awhile, I was on pandemic unemployment, but my employer offered to have me come back at a lower rate and let me work from home most days, but still go in one day a week. I know I am still a wage slave, but this is a step forward. At first I was logging in remote at 9am, then 10am, and I got it rolled to 1pm. I don't wake up to an alarm most days and it is heaven. Tuesdays there is a bullshit morning meeting that I jump online for, and then go back to bed. Fridays are the worst day of the week, because I must go into prison, I mean, the office. I actually picked Friday because I am less likely to see coworkers that day (they normally opt to use PTO that day). I don't get PTO anymore either, and it is really wearing me out to try to choose between helping my grandma or taking my cat to the vet, or to decline living tasks to sit at a computer and do enough work to earn my pay, and make enough to pay my bills. I even tried this Friday to go camping for just one night, a very low-cost vacation, but I could not coordinate buying a tent and supplies, preparing food, and having the energy to drive 2 hours away into the woods; I ended up just sleeping Friday even after work. I can't seem to find a better job, but I have had more freelance clients lately too. Once my car is paid off I will have more freedom options. I will still need to pay my house and solar loans, but that is less debt to imprison me at least.

Very good points, I specially like the ending. You are on point with that decision about doing what really feels right for you because YT is now trending towards authenticity, not plastic fake content. Also I know a bit about the algorithm and you don't actually have to post periodically on a fixed schedule, that's a myth created by fake YT "gurus".

In my personal opinion wage slavery is better than homelessness but it still sucks. If I can't be rich and have generational wealth I refuse to have children. I will not bring children into this world and tell them to spend their youth in school memorizing useless stuff so they can grow and be a rich man's wage slave. I hate this world.
@TheSimArchitect

You're right on your approach. If you have to follow a schedule to "keep your channel going" you're a "wage slave" to RU-vid as well. I tried it, it ruined gaming for me, something I enjoyed before. Don't let it ruin things for you too. Time yourself. Do what brings you joy but not only that but WHEN it brings you joy and on your own terms. 🙏🏻

Great insights! There is a growing population of homeless, particularly in the USA. Some of it is involuntary which is unfortunate, however there is a rising population of voluntary 'houseless', many of whom are vanlifers, RVers, etc. I relate to being in Act III being in my early 40's. I have no desire to run on the hamster wheel in the rat race. Now is definitely the time to live life!

Great thinking. I'm not homeless and hope I won't ever get there. However, we have a small house that is affordable without being a slave. That doesn't mean I don't work, but being self employed I have some degree of control. Homeless in Canada might be fun for six months of the year, but the rest of the time would be hell.
@TomScryleus
@TomScryleus 10 месяцев назад
same here in Sweden. At least the south of sweden. It would work 6-7 months, but rest of the year would be rather cold. However we do have a lot of shelters, and food supply is unlimited. Its impossible to starve in Sweden.
