This is a quick review of the Homelite splitter. I have been very happy with the product and would buy it again. I routinely split 15-25 inch diameter oak and maple no problem. Only ever has issues with thick knots in the wood.

I have one too. It amazes me with what it can split. I have a weak back too, so I like the fact that I can roll pieces of large wood up a ramp as he does. Hey, it is not a production machine, but it fits my needs.

I've had mine for 9 years now. It is AMAZING AND DURABLE. It recently had a problem with the release plunger and I messed up when fixing it and it's time for a new splitter. I will get the same one. You are correct in saying it has no problem splitting huge pieces! Nice review and nice video! Thanks man!

Kevr that pile ended up being a little over 2 cords, but this year I'll have just about 4 to do! Only problem is that it's a bit slow. If your logs are short enough you can use a small block of wood to hasten the process.

All my wood is knotty, but usually after a couple of tries and turns of the log it got split. I didn't try such a huge rounds though because there is no way to lift them on the splitter by myself - first I split them by hand into manageable pieces.

Good info. I assume 110 not 220. Nobody ever says. Also, no one makes an upright splitter? Nobody talks about the fact you don't have to lift up if not horizontal splitting. No reviews of upright electrical splitters. Guess that is too esoteric.

Wood gets harder as it drys. Less water, denser wood fibre. I always felt the main effort to a wood splitter is lifting the wood up, moving it around and then stacking it. The splitter makes the actual splitting the easiest. I wonder what the longevity of the units are, how much wood can you put through. Whats the maintenance like on it?
@ThomperBeThompin
@ThomperBeThompin 6 лет назад
I haven't measured how much wood I can put through yet. The system is pretty slow, but many people tape down the button so you only have to press the lever, or using a block of wood on the blunt end helps to hasten the pace. Those are two ways to speed it up, but yeah, it takes a while. This is definitely for light duty. Maintenance is very simple, just keep an eye on the fluid levels.

@@ThomperBeThompin Thank you. Yeah, I am amazed at how some woods, particularly the hard woods like oak and black walnut, are actually easy to split, and cleave right apart when hit with an ax if thoroughly seasoned. Whereas soft woods can have a lot of fibers that hold together and just will not come apart. I rented a big 35 ton log splitter to do ash a couple years ago. I was amazed that the stuff didn't just pop apart. I had to run the splitter all the way through the stuff to separate all the fibers holding it together. Very time consuming. I probably got about a cord done in one very long day. (I wanted to get my money's worth of the rental cost.) And I left it in big pieces.

oak is great firewood, but it is not the best wood to use when trying to convince people about your log splitter.. Don't get me wrong, it seems to be a great little splitter, but splitting a piece of oak which is nice and straight, doesn't really show what it can do... Try getting some piss elm... I have a 34 ton splitter and it had a hard time splitting that twisted, stringy nasty ass shit wood... Now that would be something to test your splitter on...
