Our friends and neighbors, David and Barbara, invited us and another neighbor over to their backyard to observe the process of grinding and pressing apples, picked from their apple trees, into juice. David, a highly-skilled woodcarver, designed and constructed both the apple grinder and press out of oak wood. It was a fun and delicious experience! Dave offered to grind and press the apples on one of our apple trees once they are fully ripe and ready! What a fantastic way to make use of a large number of apples, instead of letting them fall to the ground and rot like many people do. Thank you, Dave and Barbara, for sharing this wonderful homegrown organic food solution!

I'm in the process of making my own scratter and press as we speak. Wanted to get a few ideas on how to make the scratter which brought me to this video. Nice setup

now just add 2 cups sugar, 1/2 tbsp yeast, let it ferment in the dark for 90 days with the lids on loosely =)

And then freeze it and drain off the apple jack!

I see what you did there 🤣🤣. I was milking a gallon in a plastic container w/o sugar or any additional ingredients for about 5 weeks, I went camping for a weekend, upon returning I smell something awful, the freaking container blew tf up in my fridge 🤣 excellent recommendation on the loose lid thing 👍👍👍👍

Nice setup. Looks like you made it all. I would build a heavily insulated wooden box to set around the drill after it's mounted, to maintain lower sound. Thanx for mentioning apples on the ground might contain e-coli.

I really like this and since I have a small apple tree in my garden, I would really like to rebuild one of the apple grinders found on youtube. In germany I don't think building such a grinder on its own is too common (anymore). Can you tell me how much effort it takes to clean the whole grinder and press again after you are finished? Thanks and all the best!

If you have a garden hose it's as easy as watering a plant 😉

@@Bear2UThanks. I bought two years ago a very old "industrial" grinder. It was used by a farmer for his apple trees to grind the apples 60, 70 years ago. It was still in very good condition and cost me about 30 €, when I bought it from his grandchild. As you say, I clean it with a garden hose and dry it with my compressor afterwards. It's hand driver, but it works so easy and fast, there's no need for a motor.

It's not specific, any size smaller than u pinky, just needs to wreck the apple 😏

So you guys just juice the apples you don’t add any cinnamon cloves nutmeg or fresh oranges?

While I applaud your machine, I would prefer you to make one a bit safer by using a drawer type pusher with a long lever or at least a longer push post to keep your hands out of the hopper area and reduce risk of accidents.
