My Premier Project Plans: paskmakes.com/...
My Free Plans: paskmakes.com/...
I've made a few different types of bar clamps over the years and while they all worked, I wanted to improve on them. I think I achieved it! These homemade bar clamps needed to be heavy duty and easy to adjust. If the method I've used has already been done I couldn't find it after thoroughly searching the net.
I plan on making a couple more, without any welding by making the head and foot out of timber. They will be a lot easier and quicker to make. I'll make another video soon.
I apologise for the sound. Its been pretty hot here the last couple of weeks (mid 30's), I had my industrial fan going and didn't realise (being new to making video) how detrimental that would be to the sound quality. I'm still learning the ropes here! I put music over the top, which I didn't want to do, if it gets too much please mute the sound.
I'm very happy to answer any questions.

I was chatting with another youtuber about doing a collab video. I thought it would be fun to think of a project and each build it in our own way. Maybe we should get a bunch of smaller youtubers (less than 2,000 subs) to participate in a holiday design challenge?

Amazing!! Watched 5 of your videos last night, 3 of them are projects im about to undertake! Love your work, we have a bit in common i think! Your execution is really nice though, much more ordered and flowing than my haphazard style at the moment! Working on building a shed to streamline things a little, hopefully!! Trusses almost built, frames are salvage from a golf simulator, wiggly tin came off a winery that was having a change of colour, hurrah!!

I loved the video, no obnoxious music, commentary, dog barking super loud machine noises or mouth breathing of the videographer :) however, for some reason, I had trouble watching it due to the very bright welding footage, I am not sure what the issue is, perhaps the other similar you-tube fabrication videos i have seen were processed with a light spectrum filter that dimmed the brightness on those sections, perhaps they put their go-pro inside the welding helmet, I don't do videos so i am not sure how to fix the issue, but i think your stuff is great, and wanted to mention that to you. If I have offended you I apologize, it was not my intent. I was just getting a headache and wanted to let you know something you may want to look into. Great stuff though, it answered the questions that I had perfectly.
@PaskMakes
@PaskMakes 6 лет назад
Thanks very much Russell! Filming welding is difficult and the problem is having an exposed shot before you press the trigger and then still being exposed while welding. I do have a x1000 ND filter, I haven't tried that and it may be too strong but if it did work it would only show the welding and none of the surrounding environment. :)

Looks cool, your not so average bar clamp! Is the green plate next to the handle stiff enough?
@PaskMakes
@PaskMakes 7 лет назад
It's a good question. When I made my prototype I used 5mm flat bar for the end - I didn't have enough in stock to make these 8 clamps so I used 3mm. The 5mm would be better but I've put a straight edge to the end and they don't show any sign of bending so far - if they do I'll beef them up a little. Thanks!

That's pretty clever, thanks for sharing it! I saw a video recently (sorry can't remember who's channel) where the same idea, using threaded rod and a sawed off nut, was used to align a table saw fence, so you could always return it to the same 1/16" position. Well done!

These are great! I think I will definitely try to make them in the future. I do have one question on the sliding end of the bar clamp, I've seen plenty of craftsmen use "even" clamping pressure on both the top and bottom of say a table they are working on. When you flip these upside down to clamp the top, does the half nut still engage. Just curious as the gravity creates the lever for the nut to press into the threaded rod, from what I can see. Thanks!

Also the first time he tries something the result is usually the equivalent of someone with a lot of experience doing it
@ThuanDuong-pv3xu

Are they more expensive than buy ?
@PaskMakes
@PaskMakes 7 лет назад
Depends what clamps you compare them against - probably about the same price of a cheap clamp but much, much cheaper than a quality clamp. Steel is cheap to buy from a steel merchants even here in Australia where everything is expensive. For a comparison a Bessey clamp(I'm not saying mine are as good but they are very good) here costs around AUD $100.
@MKRM27
@MKRM27 7 лет назад
Thuan Duong Much more effort and expense went into this fabrication, than just buying some clamps. There's no doubt about that.

Cheapest clamps I can find (here in Australia) that adjust to any position(without moving a pin to the next nearest increment) are around $40 each x8 $320 plus postage which would not be cheap here either. Mine cost $120 for all eight - the $40 clamps are pipe clamps which are more than adequate but I would rather have mine. I also had the idea for these and enjoyed taking a concept through to a finished working tool. Also I enjoyed working out the project and exercising my brain - it's all part of the fun. I love a challenge and like hard work so this was easy for me - I understand this isn't for everyone though - each to there own. I did make a wooden version of these clamps and they really weren't too much work (and cheap).
