In this video, I take out a section of the floor of a J14 Carolina Skiff and make a custom bilge area for water to collect. The boat is a 1998. Some of the different models have the area built in an make it ideal for collecting water to pump it out. Hope this video helps to get an idea of what to do if you would like to do the same for your boat. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for posting this. I have a J14 and have kept it on manual jet ski lift which recently broke. Decided to bottom paint it and use mooring whips and add a bilge pump floor mounted; but, didn’t think about it would still have a little water in it. How has it held up? I am a little worried about causing the transom to weaken.

Did you float the boat before building the bilge area? I ask because if the water line was at or below the floor level, then the boat would self bail by just leaving the water plug off, but if the floor level was below the water line, then building the bilge section was a smart idea.

The boat sits fine by its self with a smaller motor on it. It’s self bailing. Rain water gets in and flows right out when the plugs are out. This is to give the water a place to collect and be pumped out with my bilge pump. It’s aggravating having a small amount of water in the back of the boat that can’t be pumped out because there is no place to collect. This solves that. This has worked perfect for me with my heavier motor on the boat.
