Great job!!! Thanks! I didn't realize when I bought the house that feeding the 15-20 cats living here was part of the monthly mortgage! So most of the cats here have notched ears and I can sorta see the drop-off boy's have been clipped. Still we've added 3 to 5 drop off kitties every year I've been here. Thanks for the fish recipe!!!
Yep it be like that sometimes 😂 this is a great way to convert leftover fish into nice clean cat food for them c: I would also like to suggest always double checking the fish you plan to make into cat food, some fish are not the best choices for them :o good luck with all the adorable hungry mouths you have to feed 😁
Glad they enjoyed them c: my favorite part is that since it’s just very basic prep and cooking, it’s always super easy to give them a nice tasty treat c:
Hi Jula, glad you enjoyed the video :D I hope your kitties love their homemade treat c: just a friendly reminder to double check the fish you plan to prep to make sure they're kitty friendly. You can also add supplemental nutrition to give the meal a boost, their should be some more reliable info regarding that online. Let me know how it goes!
That is also very true Hassan, I do have some mixed feelings on this though. The fish can’t help that they’re invasive since they got introduced to an area that they just happen to overtake; they’re doing their best at the only thing they kinda know which is to survive and thrive haha. With that said, there are definitely a few species I know doing this to them would definitely help the ecosystem but I would never hold it against them, maybe if I catch some by chance instead of actively targeting them c:
@@SvenGoesFishing the problem is, cats will not really complain about which type of fish their fed as long their fresh and meaty. But the catfood industry uses huge volumes of human grade fish like tuna, mackerel, cod etc caught using trawlers which is quite destructive to the ecosystem, and negatively affects the livelihood of local communities dependant on fishing. Invasive species should be caught and ethically processed into cat food, in order to revive the natural balance as well as reduce the amount of human grade fish that's used by the pet food industry.
Now that I completely agree on, using invasive fish instead of human grade ones would definitely be way better for everything overall, those trawling nets are really bad for the ecosystem (not to mention the bycatches like turtles or marine mammals that get caught and sadly suffocate :/). I remember in marine bio that since they're so untargeted, the harm they do can extend to even damaging sensitive deep water coral reefs that take ages to establish and grow. Thank you for your perspective and I do wish more people think about issues like this more!
I caught a catfish today(was invasive, so I can't release). Was thinking about making it into cat food. Maybe freshwater fish are safer since they contain less salt and heavy metals(though they can contain parasites, but that can solved with cooking.)
Yeah proper cooking should take care of the parasites. I think the catfish would make great cat food, cat is already in the name 😂 just double check to make sure there’s no issues with your catfish and that it’s compatible to be made into cat food c: I do think you’re right though that freshwater fish might be better cat food, salts and heavy metals might stack up if you give saltwater fish to your cats :o
What kind of fish did you use? Did you catch it yourself? I wanna do this with yellow perch for my kitties cause it's my favorite and I hope they like it as much as I do
For this video, I used ocean whitefish that my wife and I caught on a charter boat :D After giving extra fish to friends and family, we just had a few extra smaller fish and I didn’t want them to be accidentally forgotten in the freezer so this was a good way to make use of them c: Some fish might be high in something that is harmful to them if they eat too much of it so I recommend just double checking to see if yellow perch is safe for them, but if no red flags pop up then I’m sure you’re kitties would love it c: thanks for watching Steven Wolfgang, let minnow how it goes when you try it! :D
Hi George, can you elaborate what you mean? :o Baking fish is a great way to cleanly cook fish for cat food as it’s simpler than other cooking methods and it keeps most of the nutrients more intact
@@SvenGoesFishing i mean cats can eat raw fish without a problem ,cooked fish can contain cooked bones that are dangerous for a cat ,and on the other hand cats can eats raw bones raw fish wihtout a problem more nutrients in raw food dont need to cook them ,i mean lions dont cook meat do they
Hi Lubna, you're absolutely right! But this video focuses more on making use of leftover fish after fishing trips. Sometimes we bring home a few extra fish that would end up getting lost in the freezer if not prepped right away, so I wanted to show a way to make use of them before they go bad. Because of that, the fish prepped in here is considered more of a 'once-in-a-while' treat than an important part of their diets. However, if you're planning on using homemade cat food as an integral parts of their diet, you definitely should add vitamins and other supplemental ingredients to ensure their meal is healthy and beneficially nutritional for them c: These additions can be oils, calcium, vitamins, grains, more protein, and even extra water. I'm not too sure what the ratio of each supplement should be, it would most likely depend on the recipient of the food. Each cat could be a different case, as some cats could have food allergies or intolerance of certain types of food or ingredients; I would suggest consulting with your veterinarian about homemade cat food or if you're planning on swapping to a pure homemade cat food diet. They should have more than enough knowledge to help you out c:
There are people in southern California that can't afford to eat that fish. You could buy a bag of cat food for a buck at the dollar store and the stray would appreciate it just as much. You need a girlfriend....
