The second time I watched the vid, I would suggest running both legs down opposing rafters making an inverted V...Try to offset the wire from the rafters a bit...YOu an also use pvc pipe with an elbow to make an inverted V, mount your wire and attach it to the building...Or a str8 V would also work in that configuration...
I've made a lot of these, but in the inverted V position and V position...Found the inverted V works best and kept SWR's low...Any wire will do, copper or aluminum cut to resonate to the 11 meter band...Although wood will conduct elctro magnetic energy, it's by far not the best...Try to keep the antenna wire away from wood if possible...Most important thing is, have fun!..
@IwillhonorGod True, and most hamsters won't admit it, but most of them started on cb. Whether when it was a licensed band or not. I know so many hams that got their ticket when you needed to know code that regularly spend time on 11m. I mean, who doesn't enjoy keying on ducks???
Great job mate maybe your SWR would be bather if the vertical wire dose not touch ore be near that metal beam or WTF but you probably already figured it out until now 73 to you from 45 division. And just to now I love CB as much as I love HAM radio don't now why some peoples hate CB when it is all the same fucking thing the only thin different is the frequency, but that is theirs problem 73.
@jeff35401 Ummm... Not too sure if you're aware of the massive amounts of spectrum that hams have been losing to cell phone companies etc. due to lack of use. Truth is that there are more hams now than there ever have been due to the removal of the code requirement and the new hams it's created and that's probably saved good portions of your band plans. The ARRL hasn't sold you guys out, the FCC has - To AT&T, Verizon, and T mobile! Be thankful that us "no coders" are here!!
I'm trying to make something like this in my loft. That looks like with an SWR of 1.3 you did well:) I have some questions if you don't mind me asking them, i'm looking for some advise. - Does that horizontal piece of wire touch the wooden beam at the top? or is it hanging at each end with some insulators? or the dipole configurations i've seen has those white insulators.
The first important thing of any antenna for any type of communications service, Ham CB, cell service etc.... is that you own and use a SWR meter and know how to use it. For me, if you can't fine tune (trim it) the antenna.... leave it in the store! As the SWR goes up, your effective radiated power goes down. If you only have 4 watts to start with... even more important. I want as near to 100% of my RF to leave the antenna. The old dipole antenna.... you can get it right on the money with a little effort!
It's sad to see the tension and arguments between hams and CBers. I am planning on getting my ham license. I did a little CB when I was a teen. I currently own a couple of hand held CB's and plan on getting a mobile or base station CB. I plan on having the CB's to compliment the ham radios. CB is nice because it's unlicensed and I can hand a radio to any friends or family. For emergency communications it's nice to keep your options open. So I am opting for ham, CB, and possibly FRS.
Post 2- - How many watts can you run out of that? ;) - Is that the V shaped version of a dipole? what effect does that have compared to a normal flat one. Horizontal or vertical flat ones make a difference? - Any advise you can give me about building one of these myself? As you can tell i'm new to this:) A lot of questions I know, sorry! Would be great fi you could answer some of them though!
WOW! This is unreal...Hope to be "jawin" with ya, might even try that spkr-wire thingy! Will be shoutin' out from Port Jervis area on a base/mobile GE Model 3-5871-B....Yeah, it's an "oldie" but I just found it in an old box in storage...It was Dad's...he'd be laughin' now if he was alive: KBEX6837, signing off...see ya soon, and THANKS!
For horizontal polarization, either antenna can be hot but for vertical polarization you want the top hot."...from wolfington dot net articles dipole...good luck! p.s. for verical apps the "top" antenna is "hot", bottom one is "cold".
AdamAdamAdam!!! Cool video.....love the Dooley watergate...lol. Dave looks like Phil Donahue...lol. Check my vids out, have Ch.6 watergates on some of out Trams....putting together a vid now of Birdy's mobile we have been working on here in the shop...talk at ya soon!! Wall to wall and tree top tall....Killerkitty 521 Droppin the Maul!
@jeff35401 Does your ham ticket make you feel special? Does it look good hanging the basement wall of your mother's house? I thought you hamsters were supposed to be "kinder and more civilized" then us dirty chicken banders. Thanks for posting hammy!
