Hey, have you tried hanging a plastic zip bag filled with water and a few pennies. I've seen this technique often in the past few years.. I'm about to try it myself. Btw.. Thx for video
I tried this for my dog today! Really worked. I didnt have the essential oils, so I just added rosemary and basil leaves to hot water and let them step overnite. Sprayed my dog this morning and et voila! It worked like a charm! No more sand flies while walking him this morning. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts..Maxx and Vasu
Ingredients: 4 cups raw apple cider vinegar (where to buy raw apple cider vinegar) OR make your own vinegar 20 drops rosemary essential oil (where to buy my favorite essential oils) 20 drops basil essential oil 20 drops peppermint essential oil 2 tablespoons liquid oil (olive oil, canola oil, or mineral oil will work) 1 tablespoon dish soap (Like this one)
Ok I made a batch and I tested it and it did remarkably well. My son and I rode through a flooded river bottom and frankly, I would use it on my self. I did, however, add five drops of citronella you also need to keep it shook while applying. Yes the results were fast acting.
Yes we used a version of fly spray just like this during my 4 H Leader days when we were taking our horses to shows. All our friends in the Horse club loved it. We added a natural bath oil. Avon had skin so soft, just a few tsps was enough as well as the herbal essentials It was wonderful
Something I saw in a video a long time ago .... this guy kept chickens on his cattle farm, and he would throw the chicken feed on the manure ... sounds gross, but the chicken would eat maggots along with their chicken feed. Apparently it helped reduce fly numbers by a lot
To keep fly's away from your horses an cattle...If you can find , have or live near a crab-apple tree, also known as horse apples /Osage-orange The fruit from the tree is non toxic to animals as it is naturally decomposing it gives off a fragrance that repels flying insects. Toss a few in an around the barn an stable an you will be fly free.
@@hopeisorange Definitely not on the eyes or anywhere AROUND the eyes since it could mix with their sweat and run into their eyes. Unfortunately most essential oils can irritate and burn the eyes. Some can even blind the eyes like clove oil.
Have you ever tried to spray a cat?! Yeah, this is a channel for me! Really like that fly spray recipe. I did not know you could put a spray top on a vinegar bottle! I am gonna have to get on that too!
This is an interesting idea! Does it work great on your horses? Instead of essential oils, I made a organic furniture cleaner out of white vinegar and orange peels. Could I use that for the citrus part of the recipe?
Please answer the questions folks have asked. Especially regarding usage on the face!! I want to share this but it’s not addressing the most problematic area. HOW do YOU treat the facial area since the annoying flies often congregate in the poor animal’s eyes. Is it ok to use a cloth gently around that area?? Does this help fight eye flies??
Yay!!!! You're on RU-vid! I came over as soon as I saw it on Instagram. I was just thinking I needed to find a recipe for flyspray. The cows and donkey are kicking and swishing like mad.
Okay, never mind all you guys that are GOING to try it. Who HAS tried it, and what happened? How long did it work, before you had to reapply it? thanks.
I have a young bottle-fed calf that has flies everywhere! O have fly bags in her area, which has cut down on the number, but she still has a few especially around her eyes. Can I spray this on my hands and rub it around the eyes, being careful not to get too close to her actual eyes? Thank you for a great recipe!!
So happy that you have joined youtube!!! Welcome :-) Is there a reason you want to use a glass bottle? Personally I would worry that it could break and get glass bits around my horses, yikes...
I was watching "Global 3000", great show on PBS, and one segment with Swiss Cows showed their faces and under bellies covered with flies -- made me squirm and feel awful for the cows -- I wondered about 'face nets' for them, which I think would work; meantime this herbal spray is a great workaround which I will be forwarding to the Swiss farmers. THANK YOU!
1 gal milk jug drill holes in the cap Catch some Carp or any Type of Fish Cut up the fish into pieces that will fit into the jug Add water about 1/ 2 full put the cap back on When the jug is full of dead flies get rid of it.
I am thinking of using Dr Bs since I only have lavender and some citrus oils. The glass bottle tip is amazing. But I find it hard to find spray attachments that keep working. They just seem to stop working , All the products I buy have this issue, as well as the spray bottle I buy!
How should the temperature be for the water when you fill it up the rest of the way? What is the temperature of the water you put in there? Warm cool or what temperature? And my other question is is this safe to put it on their faces as well? I don't think I'm going to spray it directly on their faces I'm just going to spray it in my hands rub my hands together and just rub them on their face around their eyes and around their nostrils is it safe for me to do that to them, do you think that'll be all right? I live on the farm and we have four horses all are females and one is pregnant. So is it safe for me to use around their eyes and on their faces and foreheads? I don't intend to spread directly on their faces at all I'm just going to spread in my hands rub my hands together and rub it on their foreheads and around their eyes. But is it safe to put on their face and is it safe for even one that is pregnant? And they have lots and lots of flies and horse flies around their face on their face especially around their eyes poor babies.
I made this and my cow is licking it! Is that normal? Is it safe for her to lick it? Is she licking it bc its stinging her bites and shes trying to get it off?
