When doing long format as required, viewers such as myself LOVE it when the creator watches through and writes down "Time Stamps" that can be offered *At the time the video goes up* so (just makimg up a randon example): 00:00:00 - 00:04:16 Project intro 00:04:17 - 00:07:48 Made a poor choice (lol) 00:07:49 - 00:11:32 Sorted how to pull the fat out of the fire 00:11:33 - 21:18:18 Source more materials from "Empire of dirt" and maybe have to buy 6 Torx Style cap-head screws - and wait 2 weeks to get them. etc. This is because, many of your viewers (such as myself) fimd your content very relatable - but can't always watch a longer video in less than 3-5 sittings. Having that index, my friend, will really DRIVE UP the number of FULL VIEWS" you get - and what with the time it takes to do all the filming - I honestly believe taking the time to watch through, and set a list of very accurate "time stamp indexes" - one time - will really make your content SHINE - because it's so easy for your viewers to find where they left off, and continue watching.

If a greese piston can tighten the tracks on a big excavater which is basically the same as what you have created you should have no problem pushing out a pin. The only thing that could give is the piston seal not having a backup ring but if it does its an easy fix. Soft rubber seals are the best for sealing pistons but being soft they can blowout, by putting a especial hard plastic backup ring to give support blowout is virtually eliminated. Don't worry about lengthy videos, I love them, it means I can sit down and have a good cup of tea while watching without having to select another video still having half a cup of tea left. You create some amazing stuff in your videos, thanks for spending the time to share.

I’ve used brake wheel cylinder with its cup seals and plugs to push a broken rivet out of a shift fork down in a transmission. Used a bucket model high pressure grease gun that had a long hose so a helper could pump it for me. Worked one time and saved disassembling the machine, didn’t work the second time and I had to split that one and put shift fork in a press to get the rivets out. Cylinders were about 1” diameter x 2-1/2” long so pretty compact.

Nicely done mate. Re the orings, they're easy enough to spec. For a dynamic seal like that, around 10-15% compression and 70-80% fill gets you the right seal. Then it's selecting a cross section, there, the bigger the better. Stops it twisting, gives more tolerance etc. So assuming that bore was 50mm, a 3x44 oring would be a good size. That then puts the bottom of the oring groove at 44.75mm ± 0.15mm, that gets you somewhere in the 10-15% mark. The oring cross sectional area for 3mm diameter is 7mm, so 70-80% fill means the grove area needs to be between 8.75 and 10mm². Assuming you hit the groove depth tolerance, that gives a width of 3.565mm ± 0.13mm Given the interdependency of the tolerances and that you cut the bottom and sides pretty much at the same time, it's better to aim for the groove depth to be on the shallower end, cause that gives you a bit more room for the width to go over. If you end up with a 44.9mm diameter groove the width can go out to 3.92mm and still have everything in spec.

Hi Matty, be careful of the grease nipple check ball, you may get a situation when the cylinder is under pressure with no grease gun attached, I have seen the check ball shoot out like a bullet. As mentioned in previous comments, earthmoving equipment have a similar setup to apply tension to crawler tracks, I have a spare check valve if it is any use to you, it basically is an oversized grease nipple with a heavy duty check valve inside, a tapered end and a groove cut in the mounting thread allows relief of the grease when required by loosening.

Nice build. If you know the PSI, you can calculate the force. Basically it is your input psi times the area of your piston. The force on the O ring is probably very small especially if you have a tight tolerance between your piston and cylinder. You should be able to apply some pretty massive forces with this setup. It is probably more than your hydraulic press could handle.

you could actually add a pipe to it that went from the valve to the top above the piston so when you reased the valve the grease would go into the top half and push the piston down. good little jack, might make one myself for fun.

Lovely little project Matty, to get a nice finish on the welded bit you could look into a circular insert would gove a nice radius cirner

Matty, That is a ‘champion build’ mate 👏👏👏 Your mate is lucky to have someone like you who can ‘scratch’ build tools like that. Hope it works on his pin pressing job eh? And yeah…. I think ‘lending’ it to him is a great idea 😎 😂😂 Robert

Nice work, Matty. The "real" boring bar leaves a finish that's as good as honed. That cylinder will be a handy thing to have lying around. 👍

That's sweet. you nailed it. I think I would have put 2 Orings in it. But maybe that's just overkill.
@MattysWorkshop
@MattysWorkshop Год назад
Gday, 1 o-ring seems to be doing the job so far mate, Cheers
@hedning003
@hedning003 Год назад
a good build,i woud most likely have done 2 or even 3 grooves for o-rings on that piston to stabilize it under pressure
@MattysWorkshop
@MattysWorkshop Год назад
Gday, So far the single o-ring has done the job but if it ever gives trouble its not hard to make a new piston with more grooves, Cheers
@gertkristensen6451
@gertkristensen6451 Год назад
I have done hydraulics for many years. the support must be at the top, the tolerance between the piston and the cylinder must not be too large .. normally there is a guide band on the piston
