I have tried a zillion things. The single things that actually worked in my case: A nutritious diet, decent sleeping timings, moving your body at least for 25 minutes, eating right, using quality shampoo as well as oil. I use just liittlleextra cocconion hair oil shampoo set for this purpose plus it does the job. The hairfall got under control with it.

Coconut hair oil plus mustard oil add 1 tsp of heena , fenugreek seed powder and amla powder . Heat it on slow flame and keep overnight . You have a hair oil ready next day
Explanation for oil starts at 1:16 mins Ingredients Take 250 ml mustard or coconut oil or combination of both 1 tbsp. Fenugreek/Methi seed powder 1 tbsp. Amla powder (gives antioxidants to the hair & other nutrients as well) 1 tbsp. Henna Method Mix well in an iron pan, heat it for 2-3 mins on low flame, keep stirring Leave it for 12-18 hours in the iron pan Next day, shake it well, apply roots to tip of hair & leave for at least 1 hour or overnight Wash & shampoo U will feel the effect for 2-3 days Use it as often as u want up to even 7 days a week It could color ur hair with frequent use, so be mindful of that.
You mentioned apply oil before rinsing. I think rinsing hair will not remove the oil from the hair. It needs to be washed with shampoo only then will the oil get washed off.

That is why I suggest that it be not only external but also internal.
