After reexploring my first neighborhood as a child, I had noticed that my childhood Burger King had closed down for good. It was one of the first restaurants that I have ever eaten out at during my life. Upon exploring the abandoned Burger King, I have noticed that one of the light fixtures that lit up the drive thru menu had sported a Sylvania F36T12/CW/HO fluorescent tube. I decided to take the tube home for my collection as a souvenir and decided to make this homemade preheat fixture for the tube even though these tubes are normally designed for rapid start ballasts.

Very rare lamp. Even more rare would be seeing a F36T12 slimline fixture in use. Yes, those WERE a thing and extremely rare, probably far more rare than even the F48T12 slimline.

what about F42T12

Oh yeah, I forgot about the F42T12 slimline. Also there were F60T12 F64T12, and F84T12 slimlines made in addition to the standard 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8 footers. I can't ever recall seeing a slimline shorter than 72 inch though. I have seen F60T12-HO used in older grocery store walk in coolers, though. I'd imagine the oddball lengths of 42, 60, 64 and 84 inches were used almost exclusively for signs or vending machines, rather than for general illumination. Even in Kmarts and Walmarts before the days of LED, at least in all the ones I've been in during my younger years, would often finish an end row in a 4 or 6 foot T12 strip otherwise lit exclusively by F96T12.

How if there's no filament Edit: they're actually is filaments but can't you just use a standard 20 watt ballast?

Certainly something you don’t see every day since T12 high output tubes like these are often used on rapid start ballasts and commonly used for lighting signs.

@worldwidehidcollectorusa3519 what would I need to power a 35w F24T12 tube?

@@kenytha5 So far, My estimate is something like 5 4-8W T5 choke ballasts in parallel but I have not tested that setup yet, but hope to someday.

@worldwidehidcollectorusa3519 Another question, I want to use an Advance 14uf 120v cap for my s76 reactor ballast but it's made by Universal and the cap is only for Advance ballasts, is there a solution around it?

@@kenytha5 As far as I know, I think the most important thing to pay attention to is the capacitance in microfarads and the minimum capacitor voltage the ballast requires rather than the manufacturer. I think you should be fine, but otherwise, a simple choke ballast can usually operate just fine without a capacitor.

3 20W ballasts in parallel? Does it have a higher operating current than the standard 40W?
@kenytha5

In my opinion, the wattage technically doesn't really matter as long as the voltage, amperage, (avd) arc voltage drop, and (ocv) open circuit voltage, are the exact same or just about.

These fluorescent tubes have an operating current of about 800mA. In fact, my circuit consists of a pair of North American 14-20W choke ballasts and a North American 13W PL choke ballast connected in parallel just so you know.
