This is one of the best splitters I have ever seen!!! Very efficient. For one person, your production is excellent. Looks professionally made. Really good job on a nice piece of equipment.

Amazing ! If you would weld on a log retriever on top of the blue moving part in both directions, you would have almost a fully automated system. Just put the log on and wait for it to be completely gone automatically :D I would love to have that auto cycle, but since it's Arduino based it's not in my range of expertise unfortunately.

Very good design making it fast without much more effort, but I feel it needs a L-bracket to pull the unfinished logs back into the splitter until finished, which will make it even easier and faster. Great design though.

It's an awesome knock off of the Tempest (now Wood-Mizer) log splitter! Just wondering how the main cylinder works in both directions? A normal splitter retracts on it's own once it finished the stroke. I would love to see the inner workings of the machine and possibly the valve and how you have it automated. Any chance on a follow up video?

The only thing we are planning to add is a knee ESTOP. (For other comments). But a "drag back" could be added so the log comes back itself so you have more time to set up the next cut. I could split enough firewood in one day for an entire season with a machine like this!!. Was the rod used on the main ram a fork lift double actuated rod or a longer telescoping rod design? I have CAT excavator rods laying around, longer single stage. This design is very compact, bonus, bonus, bonus. Also adding the connecting points to the outside is an excellent idea. Also two smaller cylinder could be utilized and mounted on each end, giving support to both ends of the splitting block. Some of my 300 ton machines use two smaller rods, others use one large rod.
@LitoGeorge

Excellent machine. Now, the only thing lacking: how to get the split pieces neatly organised (automatically) into a retaining device of some kind (bucket, pallet etc)

I've split 5 cords through it so far. Does what I need it to. ru-vid.comUgkxUyQswtttSffRMblGbrhCvZn7JkhtG1-7 I scrounge all my firewood and am not equipped to handle big wood, but for logs up to 24 inch diameter or so, it works great. I've been amazed by some of the gnarly bur oak and elm crotches it has split. For the tougher stuff within it's size range, you might have to study the piece a bit to decide the best attack, but if you split smart it's up to the job. It did arrive low on oil, and I was would have nicked it half a star for that, but it has regained my full confidence. UPDATE NOVEMBER 2021: Still going strong after all these years. I love the one-handed operation. Hope it's still in production if I ever need to replace it

Really nice efficient machine for single handed splitting, the only thing i would add would be an emegency kick bar/plate to stop should something go wrong. I see the emergency button but its out of reach depending on where your standing, a kick pad or bar reachable from any position would be better and give peace of mind too. hope you never need to use it.

Nicely made and well thought out however, I must comment on the safety issue at hand. With this machine in automatic mode it would not take but an instant to remove a finger or two. Have you thought about installing a KILL SWITCH near your knees so if it does catch a finger and/or hand you have some means in which to reverse the process before complete amputation? Just a idea!

The auto cycle makes this very efficient. What type of switch system do you use to get the auto cycle? It looks like it has a two or three second delay before it reverses the cycle. That is the best setup I've seen.

yes it is custom made, the end-switches and valves are connected with the controller. The controller has 3 modes. 1: manual, as long as you push on the left or right button the ram moves. 2: if you push left (once), the ram goes left until the end and vica versa. 3: Automatic left and right with adjustable delay.

@acdriec
@acdriec 6 лет назад
Robert Bartolomie it is difficult to make an engeneering video, but my father used differeng parts of a forklift. He recently changed the block that is pushing from side to side. Instead of the connection in the center of the block he changed it to two connections more to the outside of the block. Tis beacause when the wood lays not in the center, the pushing block bended a little. This is now solved by using 2 connection points more to the outside of the pushing block. He used an hydrolic pump driven by the tracktor to pump oil to the main piston. To move the piston electronic valves were used. Hope this helps you a bit

good design and all....but you design it so you don't have to pick up logs from the ground.....and then allow the split wood to pile up on the ground....how about putting a trailer or bin at each end to catch the split wood?......
