In this video, Greg mills the last beam for the sawmill cover. He takes you step by step, from log to beam. He also shares his thought process on how he decides what lumber he can get from the log, besides just the beam - a detailed cut plan for log to lumber.
Here are the total board feet calculations of this douglas fir log :
8"x8"x19'=101
3"x6"x19'=28.5
1"x3"x19'=4.75
8"x2"x19'=25x2 pieces=50
10"x2"x19'=32
Total = 216 board feet

Here are the specs on the sawmill cover / sawmill shed we are building:
3 posts in the front
4 posts in the back
Overall dimensions are 15 feet wide by 36 feet long
Longest beam is 27 feet
Front part of the lean to roof is 11'9" and back is 8'
It will have a 3 :12 pitch
Posts and beams are going to be 7 1/2" x 7 1/2"
