I had a perfume blending lesson in Grasse, France last year where I learnt how to blend a harmonic perfume. First you need to be blind-folded and choose the base note you like. Then you choose a variety of body notes and drop some on test papers (the ones you get from perfume shops). You put the test paper together with your base, see if they go together. Then you blend your base and body together, and repeat the test-paper-process with top note.
Willow Huxley Im french and I don’t understand this comment but I see « Grasse, France » and I want to say I am proud, I am French ! Sorry, I don’t speak English very Nice because i’m 12 Bye
As a Perfumer, you NEVER use Vodka! Use Perfumers Alcohol Denatured. THAT is why you have a filmy, foggy look to your perfume...Research before you tell others how to do their own scents. I GUARANTEE your perfume will not only go sour, but the fragrance will fade very quickly! Trust me, I learned by THESE MISTAKES, and that is how we learn...
Thank you so much. I’m new at making my perfume at l mixed all the ingredients and it has been sitting for 3 weeks and it has not mixed yet. I made a cherry fragrance oil. What l’m doing wrong. Will please help me. Thank You in advance.
Raaa, how crafty and simple it looks like! Thank you for this lovely tutorial! I was just spontaneously playing with my first blend and suddenly deciding to check for some guidance and voilà, I found you, very glad to!
Sorry but the drops are too many for such a small bottle. The recipe you posted would be okay for a pint of alcohol, or two cups. Tangerine and other citrus oils can burn skin at those amounts, and cinnamon and cloves and nutmeg can burn skin at one drop per cup, so you have to use micro drops and dilutions. But it sounds like it would be a great perfume.
Actually it is not. That’s like a 3.5% concentration, maybe 4 ish with the vanilla. The vanilla is a tincture. So hard to tell. I’m not saying this is how you should make a perfume. But from what I can tell they are within recommended limits. I’m not sure what limits on tangerine are. But 4 drops would be about .100g. That’s like .5% which should be fine.
I just LOVE watching your videos. I do try them out and nothing has disappointed me so far. For some reason, you give away a pure aura and that makes me to follow what you do.. 🤗
I love this. You're so creative and you have a great aura about you. I really want to try this because I'm all about making my own products that way I know they're vegan.
I just adore your videos. Your ideas, the way you film, your calming voice. All so unique. Keep up the amazing work I'll definitely be trying this :) xoxo
The questions is how long it going to last? For extra tips dissolve all the oil in alfox 200 then it will turn into something called water soluble perfume and then mix vodka. For fixative use some strong oil:)
Thank you for making this video!!! It is something I've been thinking about doing for awhile. Your measurements and information will help a lot! I did know to find out what notes each oil is and to blend some of each.... I didn't know to add them in a specific order. Now I do! 😉
Ela, I am so glad that I found you here! I am a total newbie, just getting started with essential oils. & all that is natural. I appreciate that you give so much detail-written, verbal, & demonstrations! It is very helpful. Thank you for sharing! As for the morons who gave a thumbs-down....how could you?! Get a life, & stop hating, please!
Any ideas as to how I can find out if an essential oil is a base, mid or high note? Additionally, how does oil vs vodka change the perfume recipes? And is there a difference in the ratios needed for oil, alcohol, or solid (oil and wax) perfumes?
I've just found your channel and I love it! I've just startes making my own cosmetics and your videos have helped me a lot. Thank you for all the useful information and for taking the time to share it with us!
Very nice, I love making perfumes as well. It`s such a treat for the mind. Putting words to scents, mixing materials...the creative process is never ending. Thanks so much for sharing! Matt

i'm totally making myself a cedarwood perfume, been looking for a commercial one forever and couldn't find one :/ so thank you :3 now I can smell like a forest of pine trees lol
This is so wonderful.. I have been looking for an alternative to those horrible perfumes in the department stores.. I have such a bad allergic reaction to them.. I am definitely gonna try your recipes but I think I’ll try them with the Jojoba oil instead of the alcohol.. Thank you!!!
I use essential oils in my bath and with facial oil, I thought it would be too hard to make perfume but you make it so easy to understand, will rush out tomorrow and stock up on my favourite oils and vodka!! PS I first got interested in oils years ago when I met a lady from Israel who used oils she smelled sooooooh good I had to ask her what she used, I think it was patchouli and rose so I will try that!
+Ela Gale I absolutely LOVE this! Im into essential oils & Im very excited to try this out. I hate using perfume, only because it gives me such a horrible head ache. Essential are a lot better and healthier...great video!!! xo
ahhhh this is so exciting :D i cant wait to experiment, i saw that the website im getting my essential oils from has 10% off on monday, so im definitely getting some extra to make up a nice perfume ^^ thanks for at great video once again ela :D
Love the perfume bottle idea. I will now be on the lookout for amazing bottles. Great details on your information. Thanks for the work behind it all!!!
You mention that one could use volka or Jojoba oil. You mention the amount of alcohol to use for the recipe but you didn't say how much jojoba oil one could use. Is it the same as the amount of alcohol?
Even her voice sounds natural. I know that doesn't make sense but there's something so natural about the way it sounds I swear I could listen to this woman all day xD
I am looking forward to making this :) Thank You for your thorough explanations, I appreciate you taking the time to share as much as you do. I am a new subscriber and have already enjoyed three of your videos. Happy New Year !
Sophie Mccall If you are having any burning sensations, I would go to an allergist to see if you have a possible allergy to it. Essential oils shouldn’t burn, but it all depends on your particular body and how it responds to high concentrates of natural substances. Just because it’s natural doesn’t mean it can’t harm! If you have sensitive skin I would recommend only using a base oil and scented oils. (No alcohol).
I believe she was referring to the chemicals that don't belong anywhere near our bodies, but companies use them anyway. Yes I do agree that is too many drops for that bottle. Lavender is perfectly fine for an every day perfume. Some essential oils do burn if you don't dilute them properly like cinnamon, clove, oregano, ect. They are considered "hot" oils and you should follow the max derm limits when using them. Same goes for citrus oils.
@@_archynx_9143 I'm a professional candle maker and perfume maker, you can only have up to about 5% essential oil take for a perfume that goes against skin due to the nature of the essential oil. Fragrance oils are much better, allowing 10% for a perfume. It's not about my skin, it's about legal requirements and how safe the perfume you're making is. This, unsurprisingly, isn't that safe.
this is the first video i watch from you, Ela and i thank you sooo much for uploading it and for taking your time to write this desciption. it's very nice to know the exact dosage. that's what i was looking for. i wonder if they are the same for different essential oils? some are stronger than others so i guess you have to change it up a little for each one, right?
Thank you for this! I really like your channel! I look forward to when my perfume is ready. I love your diy hack reusing a perfume bottle too. Nice work! :)
Hi Ela - I'm so happy that I found you. I think that people from New Zealand are "the cream of the crop" in humanity - simply lovely folks. Thank you for this information! I will become a subscriber and look forward to seeing more of your videos - Best to you! t.
Why I love your videos: You have a really calm, soothing voice Your accent is pretty The recipes are affordable, everyday items You radiate positivity :)
I feel that you should have mentioned that 120proof or 94% or higher grain alcohol. Don’t use isopropyl it damages oils. Reason vetiver didn’t blend is the proof of alcohol was too low. Some oils like resins may need to be dispersed in a carrier oil 1st like almond/apricot that disperse oil in alcohol easier. .
truly Ms u have incredible choice of topics n d best part dey r homemade n all natural Lady pls tell how to make homemade all organic soaps with quantity specifications.Like I have abundant aloevera n want to make their soaps
I have watched a video of yours before this, and the suddenly I thought to myself "Dude I'm gonna subcribe." So I did. this was anticlimactic. Thank you for your time.
What I would like to know is where I can get the exact perfume bottle that you are using. It will make it easier for me to measure how much vodka or jojoba oil I need. I wish there was some info in the description box about good perfume bottles that can be used.
Ella, th is is great. I made it and love the smell, but your proportions don’t add up. 3.4ml of vanilla extract is 68 drops, not 55 as you mentioned. Does it matter? Should we do the 55 drops, or the 3.4ml? Also, you mentions 90 drops of essential oil, is that including the vanilla (since you only used 34 drops of ess. oil total)? Thank you for your great channel!❤
