How do you eliminate hum from grounding issues? It stops when I touch the output jack. Thanks
@ThePhilStudio
@ThePhilStudio Год назад
You can insulate the ground wire with heat shrink, hot glue or silicon. Or a clever way to make your piezo disc unique is to house the wired side inside a small plastic cap. You can be creative too and create your own clay cap.

Very good tutorial!! I'd like to know also how it's possible to conect few piezo pickups in parallel/series (like 10 pieces) together in one Female Jack Output for example for larger intruments like a harp. Thanks and Best regards,!
@ThePhilStudio
@ThePhilStudio 5 лет назад
Hey there! Thank you a lot for the comment! Plugging piezo in serie will not work. In parallel, you will probably need a “mixer”. Could be a 100K potentiometer for each piezo. The best would be to have multiple OP-amp to mix all piezo.

why it doesn't work good with 3.5mm audio jack? only feels small pulses and knocks on computer subwoofer, is it work only with 6.35 mm jack and big speakers?
@ThePhilStudio

I'm guessing you are plugging the piezo mic directly into the computer? I am not sure how your internal sound card works but you will probably need to adjust the gain and verify the connection.
@MohammedSaeedAwad

@@ThePhilStudio Nope, i connect the piezo directly to (subwoofer) only, as a speaker, the computer is not related to the circle

How to build a professional contact microphone (pewr considerable depth)? Instead of using a very ordinary piezo, it is better to use a condenser microphone capsule and so on. Don't you think so? Let me know!!! Thank you very much.
@ThePhilStudio
@ThePhilStudio 2 года назад
Hey there, thanks for the question! I really like these condenser mic. The electret mics are easy to use and you can obtain great result with them but they are really cheap. The condenser mic require more complexe circuit, I never built one yet. The piezo is a great option for acoustic instrument since you will pick up only the vibration and few noise.
@ghguyrur7
@ghguyrur7 Год назад
Does it record voice
@ThePhilStudio
@ThePhilStudio Год назад
No, this type of mic will only work on a solide surface. For the voice you would be better with an electret microphone which I also made a video on. Thinking of it, I guess the piezo could be placed flat on your chest and would probably be able to capture some signal if you talk or sing, but it would be pretty "bassy", defintly worth trying!

Hi there. Make sure the connection has no short. Also, make sure your piezo is working. Since this is not a complicated circuit I would check these 2 things first.

@ThePhilStudio

Hey there. Hmm it depends. I'm not sure on how you would use it. I'm sure it is a hard enough surface to vibrate well.
@canaldisaa6551
@canaldisaa6551 4 года назад
Can I solder it to a preamp?
@ThePhilStudio
@ThePhilStudio 4 года назад
Sure! Best would be to solder it to a connector to make it non-permanant but if you want to create a small pre-amp circuit, it would be good. My guess would be to add a small volume potentiometer to keep a good control over the signal output.

Thanks for reply. i came here from cigar box guitar videos. pick up is made with piezo (or coil) nicest thing in a cigar box guitar is that you can make it with cheap things. if you are lazy and go shopping in sites like CB Gitty, it costs a fortune, i hate that they even sell the paper templates with the right fret spacing like they invented the Blues (lol) put the damn thing in PDF! it's public knowledge! my electronics ability is very basic but if i can i fix whatever, sometimes it's just a wire broken, a resistor or a internal fuse blown. recycling certain pricy components could be an idea for a new of yours video serie. especially today we throw anything and we are full of trash.

find piezo in auto buzzers.like when the door is open, smoke alarms & similar, carbon monoxide detectors. some home security devices, that attach to windows & doors. they are 2 pieces & when the window is opened it seperates the one with iron core away from the one with a magnetic reed switch & it triggers the piezo alarm. old wrist watches , any kind of timer with an alarm chime or buzzer, such as a microwave or even a kitchen stove/range, my (Air Cond. window unit) is digital & when i use remote to change settings, it makes a chime noise. musical greeting cards will have piezo, there is a lot more places to salvage them.. childrens toys will have a lot of them.
@TheScreamingFrog916
@TheScreamingFrog916 11 месяцев назад
Smoke detectors, have it in them. The smoke dectors have a 10 year life expectancy, and need to be replaced every 10 years. So you can take them apart, after you replace them, and take the piezo buzzer out of them. As others have said, anything that beeps or buzzes, probably has one in it.
