You don't need a binder like alcohol when you are using an oil carrier because the essential oils and the carrier oil already mix. The purpose of the binder is to help the essential oils mix with an immiscible base, like water. If you add vodka to a carrier like almond oil it will stay in its own layer at the bottom.
Thank you for your tutorial good information only thing I disagree on your feelings about candles and another thing still popular is innscents and I love them also. Personally I love anything that smells good :)
Don’t use rubbing alcohol unless 90% will clog diffuser sticks, use EverClear drinking alcohol (120 proof ) Quality products: almond oil carrier or any light oil, heavier oils like olive or jojoba will clog reed faster.
I watched DIY reed diffuser on the Home & Family show. They didn't say anything about perfumer's alcohol or vodka. They only mentioned the base oil and essential oil. Why do we need perfumer's alcohol or vodka? What does it do? I am trying to learn and understand this. And why won't the skewers work with an oil base? Will they work with water as the base? Please help me. I want to try to make one.
hi, I tried to use sunflower oil and 96% alcohol for 1:1 , but it didn't mix well, the oil stayed at the bottom while the alcohol was floated on top, and then the first time I put my reed, the smell came out very strong.. then I feel like it evaporated too fast, and right now I only have the carrier oil (sunflower oil) left inside the bottle, and the smell is not very strong anymore like the first time and it took time to evaporated, and I'm not sure if it is still going up the reed. Is there something wrong with my mixture/ingredients? Maybe someone could help.. Thanks!!
Mine doesn't smell. I used almond oil, little alcohol and 30 drops...no diffusing. I thought it was ratan reeds, so bought different, and still no smell./ Help?
Use 3 parts carrier oil to 1 part fragrance or essential oil. You don't need the alcohol. If you are not smelling the fragrance, you are not using enough.
Yes, it will be safe to use the blend unless your bay is under 2. These are the safest oils to use around a baby: Lavender, Roman Chamomile, Tea Tree Oil, Lemon, Frankincense, Wild Orange. These will be safe even for the tiny babies. After the age of 2 you can also use Cinnamon LEAF, Ylang-Ylang, Lemongrass, Jasmine, , Cypress, Vetiver, Pine, Juniper Berry, Pink Grapefruit, Geranium,Fir Needle, Basil, Bergamot,Lime, Ginger, Helichrysum, Patchouli and some others. Always be careful when using the oils next to the baby and if applied topically use the smallest amount. Hope this helps!
Usually once the reeds are completely saturated with oil, you'll need to replace them with new reeds. I cannot say how long this will take as it depends on the oil you've used and the EO, and the container. You will also need to flip the stick every day for best results. And, of course, once you smell that the smell is off - change it and make a new one. Hope this helps!
@@ComfortLifeChannel I wanted to know if it lasts for 5 days or a few weeks... I didn't see an estimation in any of the tutorials and I don't want to make it only for 5 days... Thanks
