Homemade Removable Pot Bail - One Size Fits All

Lonnie shows how to make an easy and quick camp pot bail. This one homemade camp pot bail will fit many different sizes of camp pots that will enable one to be able to suspend a formerly bail-less camp pot over a fire. This one bail can be used on many different pots since it is removable. Suspend a metal water bottle, a metal cup, or many other billy pots and kettles with the same bail. Does your cook or mess kit have handles but no bail? Maybe this solution is what you have been looking for. Hope you enjoy and find this video useful
I got this idea from Bushcraft USA in the "Self Made Gear" sub forum.

Lonnie, you put the " BUSH " back in bush-craft. There are all too many VLOG's that exist just to feature expensive gear from one of the pricey outfitters, while your VLOG's feature frugal innovation for the common folk... keep up the good work ... ATB

Lonnie and Connie, you people have things that many people desire. Peace of mind. I’m 64 but I only look like im 97. That cable is used in fire protection systems. I know. The fishing industry uses the ferrules for steel/titanium leaders. Supposedly the copper grips the material much better. Don’t believe me, check it out. You can get bulk ferrules from your tackle supplier.

I almost cried for your Swiss Army knife, but it did the trick! What a neat rig. I'd carry that even with my bail equipped pots, in case they break. I used to cut very large diameter cable with a cold chisel on steel plate years ago, changing cables on hoists and boat haulouts. Just in case someone doesn't have good snips. Wrapping in electrical tape first should prevent fraying. Take care, Lonnie.
@Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival

You can't even tell that I used the Swiss Army Knife screw driver. It is perfectly fine. I however have done cosmetic damage to that screw driver implement in the past by trying to pry on my electric starter gearing on my snowmachine to get the starter to engage the engine. Once in a while the starter will "stick" and not pop out that starter gear and so it needs to be pried out while turning the starter switch. The rapidly spinning gear ground off the finish of the screw driver in a couple places. The job that was being done in this video however was fine for the screw driver.

Lonnie & Connie, Here in the Philippines, many items we take for granted in the US are very difficult to obtain. When assembling our kits, we have heavy pots with bails for base camp and chose an inexpensive set of five nesting stainless steel pots with flat lids for hikes. These pot hangers truly made our set complete. I was able to order 10 meter lengths (approx. 33 feet) of stainless steel cable. I purchased the smallest diameter available that offered the "double barrel" ferrules needed for this project. We made three assorted wire bails and there is plenty of cable and ferrules remaining for the future. Thank you both for this great and informative video.
