Hi, Norreen I made your wonderful, truly delicious. Strwaberry Pie filling using my mini pie maker lastnite. Of course and nothing was left ! And everyone said how wonderful the filling is. I used puff pastry fot my pie crust and made the shells first then put your wonderful filling in and put the top puff pastry crust on top came out great although enjoying eating the finished pie was the best !! Thank you sharing. this multipurpose filling.
This is delicious! I made it yesterday and served it over angel food cake this afternoon. Everybody went nuts over it, including some very special guests from Australia. Thank you for the recipe!
this is easier than i thought it would be . i love the strawberry glaze . but this one is way better because we can control what we put in it . ty noreen n rick. have a great night again . just thought of the dessert the chinese buffets have here in michigan . they do strawberry glaze with sliced bananas .....yum . thanks 4 sharing hugs n xx
kathy jo tourtois We used to get those glazed bananas as Jason’s Deli until a few years ago and once it was gone, it never came back and no reason they discontinued it. That was one of my favorite items on the salad bar. Will make this soon. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Noreen, you have saved my day. I was going from store to store looking for strawberry topping. I had made a cream cheese cake and I went on RU-vid and watched your video and now I have my own topping. be blessed.
I'm gonna make a strawberry cream cheese cake. My grocery store doesn't sell strawberry pie filling. I can't wait to try this recipe! Thanks for sharing!
i just made this for the first time and my husband and myself love it.. reminds me of strawberry preserves.. thank you so much for sharing your know how on things for people like me that dont know how! God bless you
Oh WOW! I love this, and strawberries are on sale (Huge sale) here this week. Thank you so much. I'm going to make this first thing tomorrow when I get to the store. Looks like I will be getting a lot more strawberries than I had planned.
This is not anything like that red glaze stuff you get in the store. This is 1000 times better! Just put into a pre-baked pie shell with some real whipped cream and that's my kinda dessert!
Yaaaayy! This was a life saver! I thought I already had filling in my pantry but turns out I didn’t, so I whipped this up last minute for my pie and it came out great! Thank you! I’ll be using this recipe from now on 😊🍓🥧
Oh my goodness! Funny, I just made a similar filling with my son last week. I have yet to upload the video. Mine is slightly different, as I did not add salt. Homemade filling is the only way to go! It is sooo good.
Hi! Your name is Noreen? So is mine! There aren't many of us. Was looking for a strawberry pie recipe and came across your recipe for filling. Looks delicious so I think I'll try it.
Thank you so much for this recipe. I never liked that gross stuff from the grocery store. Now my family can really enjoy a good homemade strawberry pie!
I love watching your videos! I learn so much from them and love the useful nuggets of information that you drop as you make the recipes. Can’t find those in a recipe book! I am going to make this and can some for my hubby as strawberries are his favorite!
Noreen, YOU ARE MY HERO!!!!!!!!! No red test tube goo! That stuff is truly vomit inducing! And thanx everso for the heads up on the tapioca....your comparison to snot was a hoot!!! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My tastebuds are particularly sensitive to sweet stuffs. I used HALF a cup of sugar instead and kept the other measurements the same. It came out perfectly. I would suggest this method if you’re like me and find most sweets to be waaaaay too sugary 👍
I made this today and it was very good. My strawberries were not that sweet so it needed a punch of flavor I added 1/2 tsp strawberry extract it was great. I made layers of it with vanilla pudding and pound cake chunks. Guess a trifle like dessert.
I am totally doing this! YUM. I'm thinking of adding a few blueberries and then making those cute little sponge cakes for 4th of July. Thanks for getting one thing on my "done" list for the 4th! :)
I don’t care for the glaze they put in the strawberry pies at Frischs Big Boy. Nor that goop you get in the grocery store. But this looks fabulous! Thx for posting.
Have you used potato starch, what in South America we call chuño? It is white, very light and thickens instantly. It is also transparent when cooked. It is available in supermarkets and online. Jacques Pepin uses it often as potato starch, it is powdery and no way like tapioca!!!!
Candy, it was so easy. I made it and mine looked just like Noreen's. Give it a try. I'm trying to get away from all the processed stuff as much as I can. This tastes a million times better than the stuff you but at the store in the bag.
Hi Noreen! I made this recipe today and it tasted amazing. My filling, however, wasn't as bright and vibrant as yours was. I made sure to cook out the cornstarch, but it just didn't seem as red. Any idea why this happened?
Delicious!!!! I went to every store in Oneonta, NY and finally found the ORGANIC CORN STRARCH!!!!!! Followed your recipe-magnificoooooo! But can this topping work between the layers to a chiffon short cake? Or will it be too runny? Thank you Noreen!!!
Hi Noreen! Can I use frozen berries for this recipe? I want to make a pie today with this filling but I only have frozen berries. Looked thru comments & didn't see anything on using frozen. Thought I can just add more cornstarch since the berries will have more juice once thawed? Love your videos, thanks for posting & thanks in advance for your reply!
I think you could try but no guarantee how it will turn out. Due to the added moisture and the fact that the berries are frozen they are going to slump and get much softer than fresh. So just keep that in mind.
I made a strawberry pie with lattice crust and the pie came out runny. I followed your instructions. What can I do to prevent it from being runny or is it not possible ?
Hi Noreen! So for my son's birthday he wants strawberry pie instead of cake. Well, it is apple season here so no strawberries around or they are junk. I bought a big frozen bag of strawberries, can I use them? Hoping I can.
rebecca rios This is best eaten fresh and will hold for up to three days in the fridge. I would not make this in advance of an event or party. This is best made and eaten the same day.
Love the video. I always wanted to know how to make it homemade. Thanks. I found out recently I have diabetes. So can I use raw honey instead of sugar? I know the equivalence isn't the same. I could put this on yogurt to.
annette rumley I don't know what the equivalent would be. I have never made this with honey so I could not guarantee the outcome. You would have to play with it and see what you come up with. Alternatively. You could start with two cups of pureed berries, 1 cup of water and no sugar at all. The corn starch mixture will still thicken things up and there would be no sugar. All your sweetness would be coming from the fruit sugar of the berries. I also cannot guarantee the outcome of this method I have suggested because I have never tried it before. Experience tells me it should work, but I cannot tell you how good it will taste.
How long will this keep in the fridge? I'm making a wedding cake next Friday and i want to make the filing before hand. Like on Monday. Will it be fine?
This is not an appropriate feeling for a wedding cake. it is much too runny and will only disappoint you in the end please consider not using it for a wedding cake. This feeling really needs to be eaten within a couple of days and should remain refrigerated be entire time definitely not appropriate for filling a wedding cake
+Noreen's Kitchen I know how to puree. Your puree looked so pale and clear. I was inquiring as to how to get the seeds and pulp out (ie) how fine a strainer I needed.
+WiddoMouse I don't strain it. I just puree it. Strawberry seeds are not something I get concerned about. They are added fiber. Good for you. Leave them in. Just mash the berries. That is all you need to do.
