Yess!!! I love this method man! Thank you for thinking outside the box friend, btw you know you can patent the idea and sell it right??? 😎 True, the only thing i would add to it, as you previously mentioned the chance of the bottom-end slipping away and hurting something... simple fix in my opinion.. (2) pieces of 2x6, cut both to 1ft long, then make a center hole slightly bigger then the average struts bottom end of one of the pieces, stacking the pieces on top of each other( wood with hole being on top) and screw them together.. now the strut has a little groove to sit in, protecting you and your new strut 👍 Anyways this definitely helped appreciate it and I'm looking forward to what else youll come up with. Good luck
It should. Make the handles a little longer. Have another person sit on it as well. If you sit too far from the strut, it will be harder to reach to losen the nut.
0:13 I use this spring compressor the problem in this video is that you can see bulging since they are not even looks like the creator of the video intended this to happen in purpose to demonstrate what would happen if you don't engage the locking pins.
I know the spring compressors work but they are hard to use. Some got locking pins and some don't. If not properly seated on the spring, they will slide to one side when tighten because spring coils are at an angle. This would cause it to bulge. Even when they're evenly comressed like in video, they can still slide at any time. The more you use these spring compressors, the better you get at it. Keep in mind the spring clamped down has a lot tension and can go south on you. Side note, the shocks in the back of the car have tighter coils so you can't even insert clamps into them to compress. Homemade spring compressor will be able to handle them.
I have done a few but everything tried to remove springs using the clamps, they tend to slip if the bolts were not even tighten. Reinstalling new strut was kinda scary too. If the springs were not even compressed, nothing would line up. They can't be used on rear small springs . But your homemade spring compressor does it easily and I am worrying springs flying at me.
I think i may make a video of how to remove the engine. I wrecked my celica and I picked another one but this motor burned oil like crazy. I'll install the engine I've rebuilt from my wrecked car into this new hooptie. Not sure when yet.
Undo the front springs on the car is possible. Just remove the nut on top, then jack the car up to remove springs. Put it back requires adjusting the strut shaft to line up while jacking up the control arm. Little tricky.
Previous owner cemented a basketball hoop next the driveway. everything got dismantled except the lower section. It's filled with concrete so i just left it there. I got another use for it. I'll make another video when i get a chance.
It's handy. You can remove the broken bolts stuck in the engine block. Fix any metal that has fallen apart. Build things. Get one that can hook to argon gas. Less splatters.
The strut compressor shown at the beginning can be dangerous and is nerve wracking. But the example you used was also either intended to fail for demonstration or they were a moron and not doing it properly.
Actually it didn't require a lot of weight. All I'm doing was slightly depressing by sitting on it. My feet were still on the ground. Even when you are a lightweight individual, it will still be easy to do it. Probably about 100lbs is enough. You can always bounce on it. Or get a chubby girlfriend to help. 😆
You can screw a small piece of 3/4in plywood onto a wall like in your garage or use the fence 4x4 post or a tree. It so happened I got a half metal post an old basketball hoop. I used that.
Actually there is not a whole lot of tension there. I just pressed down enough to loosen the nut. Even if I was to fall off the handle, nothing would happen. There's not energy in the spring to shoot up and cause any injuries or damage anything. But if you clamped down the spring, now you're loading the coil. If suddenly released, it can cause serious injuries. When i removed the nut, the spring would only rised a few inches. Totally a lot safer any strut compressors.
