This video was a rush to get done as I had to leave for a weekend away with the family! In the rush I forgot to add the theme tune. I uploaded the video before I left and now I’m away from home I can’t do anything about it. So it was either live with it or wait until next week! Sorry about that and don’t worry it will be back for the next episode!
As always I'm happy to answer any questions.

I am a newbie at woodworking, and it is very helpful to see you going round the problem you face. I wouldn't think that the grain of the wood would be that important on such a short piece of wood! Thanks for sharing !

Sometimes it's the little things: 1) You showed the entire process, mistakes, recoveries and all. 2) The vintage drawer pull harkening back to old library card catalogs, etc., really finishes the piece. 3) The end. (No spoiler, but it's so good.) Overall, a thing of beauty. And all from scrap timber!

That is a very nice design. One thing I noted during your routing of the curved groove with a template is that when you move the router in one direction, it's easy to keep it along the template, and in the other direction it's much harder. You routed in the "correct" direction for the first piece, and the "incorrect" direction the second piece. The spinning bit makes the router tend to move to the left as it proceeds, so it's best to have the template to the left. Highland Woodworking has an excellent article describing this: Google "routers go left".
@PaskMakes
@PaskMakes 5 лет назад
Thanks Alan! You are absolutely right and I made sure to go the correct way the first time. The second time I just forgot everything that I should be doing and went for it. I didn’t realise I’d actually routered in the wrong direction until you pointed it out but it shows I was right in the fact that I was careless! 😊

Nice !! My father was a cabinet maker & as a child I learned a lot hanging around his bench... but went on to become a machinist myself. Its only now in my 60s that I've come back to wood... 🙄😏 Wood is sooo much nicer to work with than steel... warmer & more tactile & the tools connect you more with the material... 😕 I've liked& subbed my friend... keep up the good work ! 😎👍☘

This video was a joy to watch. As I am a hobbyist at woodwork I often make mistakes. I get so discouraged. Beautiful piece but the way! 👍👍

Thank you again very nice. No obstacles just another little problem to solve and that's just part of the fun. I worked at a small mill shop and we would buy lumber of all sorts and species from a large supplier. They would sort orders of wood for their customers and guarantee them a very high quality. They would sell us truck loads of assorted lumber that they deemed slightly defective. The lumber was full of beautiful figure but their customers wanted clear straight boring stuff. Most of it was 5/4 thickness by any where from 8" to 24" wide and 16' in length. There would be several different types of conifers and then maple walnut beech cherry different oaks and even some redwood and cedar. I would sort them out resaw to our needs and our customers. Nothing much went to waste. Only the very smallest pieces fed a wood burning stove in our front office. Customers would bring around their projects to show them off they would have loved your channel it is right up their alley. Have a wonderful day.
