Homemade Vertical Metal Cutting Bandsaw Part 1 : Blade Wheels

I have needed a bandsaw for so long and for so many random projects. I could have just bought one, but they are quite expensive for a good one and the cheap ones don't have a whole lot of torque. As a result, I decided to just build myself one from scrap stuff I had laying around. The motor is from a Jazzy power chair and it is quite powerful. Once finished, it will be able to cut wood, plastic, and metal.

Dude, right off the bat, what is that motor and where did you get it please and thank you.

its a 24 volt DC gear drive motor off of a Jazzy Elite powerchair. I bought two of these on ebay for about $100 with shipping included. I would look there for really cheap power chair motors or scooter motors. Anything that is geared down with high torque wi do ;)

LOL, yeah ToT is sort of the Master of Everything. This video was pretty good though. I thought I'd be able to duplicate it until he whipped out the mini-lathe..... Now I gotta go find a decent on making a basic lathe from a treadmill motor.

This engine looks really cool, it looks really strong. I'll try to get a similar one here, but I know it won't be easy for me to find it in my region! Congratulations on the project and success on your channel! greetings from Brazil.

@@MrSuwds Thank you! You could probably use a car power window or wiper motor as an alternative, and then over volt the motor to 24 volts for more speed 👍

@@Brute4rce1111 I'm a good electrician technician and I am currently studying electrical engineering, and I guarantee that it would not be a good option. The electric motors for automotive windows do not have much power and do not tolerate an increase in voltage from 12V to 24V. In addition, they were not made for long periods, just for the time needed to raise or lower the glass. Using for long periods of time can cause overheating. A 24V truck windshield wiper motor*¹ (those that use 3 blades) and or the 12V motor of the car radiator ventilation prop would be strong enough! But they are nowhere near the power of that wheelchair engine you used! *¹but does not have an integrated reducer.
@Brute4rce1111
@Brute4rce1111 3 года назад
@@MrSuwds I got the power chair motors from eBay for real cheap. However it's a little bit overkill for what I cut with☺️ Alternatively, you could use electric scooter gear motors.

Hello, i'm very interested by your motorisation. Could you give me please, the reference of the power chair motor ? or caracteristics ( rpm, voltage...). Thank you
@Brute4rce1111
@Brute4rce1111 3 года назад
The motor is a gear motor from a Jazzy power wheelchair. I believe it is a 550 watt 24 volt motor with roughly around 200 rpm. I am currently running it at 15.6 volts so it is probably spinning at around 140 rpm. I do plan on hooking up variable voltage power supply so that way I can run it anywhere from 10-32 volts for faster cutting in wood/plastic. It definitely has a lot of torque👍

@@Brute4rce1111 I haven't been able to confirm on a big industrial vertical bandsaw. I've got a small 4×6 chop band saw and the blade does not track at all, its a disaster. I was going to throw them on the lathe and see if they needed to be trued up. But they have the flange, i was considering cutting it off and crowning them
@Brute4rce1111

@@EitriBrokkr Did you notice any twist in the frame? If so, the wheels may not be running parallel with each other. If your frame is fine, then I would chuck them in the lathe like you said.
