There is a blessing that comes when we learn to slow down. A blessing on our marriage, health, enjoyment of life, relationships. Homemaking is often about producing and building, but the blessing of being a homemaker is also getting to embrace times of rest- taking moments to enjoy lifes simple pleasures. We don't need to move and act like the rest of the world in this busy hustle culture that only breeds discontent. I hope today's video encourages you to enjoy the simple moments of being home. God bless you!

I brought so much “hurry culture” as you call it into my home after I left the corporate world that I’m only now learning to slow down, be present with my children, to bring calm in as opposed to the chaos of constant expectations, and enjoy the simplicity of our days together. There’s so much unlearning to be done as a millennial woman who bought the feminist narrative and went along with it until quite recently! Thank you for these wise words.

It's so true, it's hard to get out of that hustle habit!! It's also so encouraging how many of us aren't believing that lie anymore!

Fantastic that you highlighted how being on the go all the time as a homemaker can create a negative atmosphere in the home too. I love to sit and relax in the garden too. It didn't come naturally to me but once you see the positive impact on the household, it's hard to go back. I now see myself as a Household Guardian of Peace and Happiness - the best job I've ever had!

I have chills. I JUST had a conversation with my husband about what you describe in this video. I quit my job a few months ago to be a home maker and homeschool our kids. This phenomenon you describe is spot on. Thank you for validating my experience. Praying for you from Canada.

This message was such perfect timing for me. Praise God and thank you, Kelli. ❤😌 I was not a pleasant wife/woman to be around when I was more "productive" from a worldly standpoint. Our home is truly such a different (better!) place since I removed the work stress, in particular.

My late father used to tell me to slow down and smell the roses. At 52, I understand what he was saying. He was telling me to stop and take in every aspect of the rose. Enjoy the texture of the leaves and petals. Savior the fragrance of the rose. So I say this to all those who are in the hustle and bustle: "Slow down and smell the roses." Donald C. Smith, my late father.

Oh my goodness Kelli, I still do that with my husband. I know how valuable he thinks my work here is on top of homeschooling, but even so at times I’ll feel that need to share my list. There’s nothing wrong with us sharing obviously, but my fear behind it, isn’t good.

Thank you for the reminder to slow down. Even at my young age of 54, daily permission to do this is necessary. I agree that the frenetic culture we live in could contribute to discontented behavior or a contentious woman. I hope what I share can bless you and others here. I'm continually training in (and it is my life experience in my home) dealing with trauma- and mental illness-informed communication. There is a need to define and differentiate "contentious woman" from the woman who is having arguments/conflicts with her spouse and/or child(ren) in order to set boundaries, resolve problems, etc. Learning the skills for speaking and *listening* to each other effectively is critical to maintaining peace in the home, which means there will be emotions that don't feel peaceful at times, sometimes for a considerable span of time in the "growing pains" stages. It's good for children to witness their parents learning and using appropriate ways to argue. It takes cooperation and hard work from all involved. If anyone in the home struggles with trauma (PTSD) or mental health issues (depression, anxiety, etc.) or learning disabilities, or any number of other challenges, then more education (possibly professional counseling) is required among family members in order to maintain healthy communication and peace. I felt this "contentious woman" issue needed to be clarified, feeling a caution in my spirit when that part was mentioned in your video. There is no guilt or sin in having arguments (contentions) in order to arrive together at addressing and resolving problems, even ones that may be the result of our frenetic culture! Whereas the contentious woman referenced in Proverbs is one who argues incessantly for the sake of enjoying arguing, having no goals to resolve problems, rather casting blame instead! Men can be contentious too.

Thank you for this video as I really needed to hear this. I’m 24 and became a homemaker with no kids a little over a year ago from working fast food. It was a shock to my system. I would get anxiety whenever I had any sort of free time and would force myself to not sit down until my husband came home from work. I was constantly trying to prove myself worthy of being a homemaker and cram as much into one day as I could, not enjoying the process of doing any of those things. I do still struggling with it to this day and am praying for the Lord to help me conquer it.

Such words of wisdom. I often find myself justifying my day to my husband or hopping up out of the chair when he gets home so I look busy. My friends and I discussed this as they do the same. We are older so maybe a generational thing?? The funny thing is our husbands really don’t care how we spend our days. 😊 Garden looks great, thanks for sharing your day!

I read a book called "Crazy Busy" a few months ago on this very subject. I was feeling frazzled from being so busy and guilty if I wasn't. This little book was a blessing to me. Your video was also blessing to me and a good reminder! I'm a wife and mom of 9, so learning to slow down isn't easy but worth the rest in my soul. How would you reconcile the verse that talks about redeeming the time because the days are evil? I think I used to take this verse as meaning we need to be busy. Now I see if more as slow and steady but still productive.

Story of my life: I have always been someone who takes things slow, but steady. The thing I was always told is, that I need to hurry up. In school, at home, at work. @@homewithkelli it has its positives, and negatives. The positives are apparent, you talk about them plenty. The negatives are, that it can be hard for me to motivate myselve to do things (I'd rather dream), and I have to work because I'm single, so it's a bit of a road block. Hi, I know that God wants there to be different roles for men and women and modern day society does look down at feminity/tradwives. However, any perspective of women who do have careers such as midwives, doulas, etc? I know Christians shouldn't go to college in general because of wordly unbiblical views. However, there are Christian women who are midwifes that are home based. There are still Christian women that worked outside the home and wore skirts. There are times that I "envied" men because they weren't as sinful as women (ie Adam and Eve) and also headship. Homemakers are very important like women with careers are. No one should be looked down on. Have a good day. ❤
