@@gregglover3970 Nothing arrogant about it, it's true. When you provide a service you don't want to be taken advantage of, hell store fronts such as walmart, target and etc have done that. If they get stolen from or anything they blacklist the person and don't allow them back in or even if you treat their employees poorly it can escalate to that and it doesn't take long. They have a right to protect them selves and their employees, because like the other guy said, we've got more that can replace you.

We used to dump wheelbarrows of mulch in the beds but switched to using the 10 tine bedding forks and working out of the wheelbarrow. Just sprinkle it on as you fork it out of the wheelbarrow. You use a lot less mulch and it goes faster.

That stinks about grumpy customer. We're in Missouri and we just couldn't get our lawn done. Then had to wait to dry some so we don't leave tracks in the yard. I just got my first mow done when usually it's prob at 3 times by this point. Luckily my neighbors understood because we were all in the same boat. It's kinda silly to get so worked up about it.

The customer should not have said the things he did, however, he had every right to be upset. If you are 4 - 5 days behind schedule that's not 100% to do with the weather and you know that. A customer of 4 years who pays his bill should have been taken care. Some contracts make so much money they wave off a customer here or a customer there because they're making money and don't see those customers as important. Customer service jobs are not just about a job, but how you make your customers feel. I've got over 20 years experience in various customer service jobs. I spent 12 years as a contract security supervisor. I have dealt with many, many, many, a-hole customers. A lot...LOT of them. But you bite it. You do what needs to be done to satisfy that customer. Others might be a little annoyed but that's better than losing a customer. And if you have a history of being behind... get better at that. Figure out why you're behind and fix it.

Customers don’t realize (nor do they care) the variables of weather, labor, equipment issues ( if you can get it) and so. Plus they think your business will succeed or fail based on their account. I literally have a waiting list. Been doing this since 1995. Cracks me up when a customer thinks they have leverage to get you to do what they want when they want it. I work as a domestic cleaner in the UK, I took on a customer, and for a few weeks I kept finding cotton buds under furniture, under cushions, even under the microwave. I asked why she had "misplaced"so many around her home, she admitted to placing them under items in the house as a,"test",recommended by a friend of hers, to see if I was moving items to clean, why didn't she simply ask me, I never returned after that day! Seems a small issue, but you have to be trusted in your employment, not be set silly "tests"to pass!

Lol, this time of year you get so many calls & so many complaints bc everyone wants it today. You have to show patience & calmness to not get emotional or overemotional. Hard to find enough people to meet the demand up front (hence bringing in good friends sub-contracting when you're in need of a little extra set of hands - scratch each other's backs). Getting new employees comes with a whole load of tough issues & training & a lot of hiring/firing to find the really good worthwhile ones. Tough to say no to customers, but sticking to your list & doing the best you can is a great attitude & approach. It's just what you have to do. Granted -- since our business is constantly fighting weather & racing to get jobs done before the "next holiday," I try to reach out to folks beginning of a busy week or as early as I can; to ask -- who is hosting a gathering, or desperately needs a cut. If they are long-time, or loyal customers & giving you good business, we will switch up routes a little to accommodate whoever needs us, within reason. Again, everyone wants their cut or mulch or CleanUp on time & yesterday -- But, being honest with people with as much advance notice as possible (within limits of this business) & trying to hit the clients who really need you first, goes a long way. People appreciate that (just a thought, for when things are crazy busy). Sometimes you can push off a commercial lot or someone else who just doesn't care as much (especially if you contact them & explain situation ahead of time as well. Pushing them until next week, allows you to get to & keep customers worth while) -- But, we all have clients who just don't care about you or your family -- "You're hard workers -- who do awesome work!" Until you can't meet some unreasonable request & then, "You're trash & replaceable" -- not the clients you want to work your tails off for. Those people are really tough to not retort emotionally & waste your breath on. Just got to move on & keep tackling the next ones. Good work guys!!

Just another thought from my experience as a crew manager when I worked for a high end company in Atlanta. We would get requests to do maintenance visits all the time from clients for holiday parties, events etc. Most of the time they gave us one to two weeks heads up. Most of the time the owner and I would tell them we would adjust their visit for that week or add on extra visit for a small fee. Most of the time I would do it myself or have our small enhancement crew do it so the regular crew could stick to their schedule. The route I had for 5 years, I only lost very few accounts. We found it was easier for us to make money by trying to keep the clients we already had vs the risk and cost of new ones. But most of our accounts was high percentage of the revenue for our division. But we had flexibility with multiple crews and personal so we can do that so from your prospective as a owner operator your limited in that sense. Plus like most have said you will fill that revenu up and fast no doubt. Did he communicate he wanted his done for Easter ahead of time? Or was it just him thinking you could work that week in the rain and weather lol. It's hard to let go a long time customer like that. I felt there should have been better communication ahead of time. Maybe going forward in your contracts. You could state * if you need your property service for a holiday, party or other event, please advise 2 weeks prior so arrangements can be made depending on weather forecast *

Nothing says, "I Love the Lord", quite like cussing someone out over something they absolutely cannot control. Like the weather!

So I take it this customer was in a big hurry with his lawn because of the easter bunny & not because it was Jesus rising from the grave? I would definitely hope no true Christian would behave that way.

Some people think because you are performing a service for them that you will take any crap they dish out. Almost as if they own you. That's NOT how the real world works. Understanding, politeness and respect go a long way in life. Plus if it's raining no one and I mean no one on Easter coming to your house is going to stand in the rain to look at your grass! LoL 😅! Customer is a jackass and you're better off NOT dealing with that one. His wife will be on HIS a** about the grass and yard looking bad very soon. The greatest revenge ever created! LoL!

1st of all that Customer should have given you a few days notice, and not to tell you the day before a Major Holiday. That is wrong for him to think you would drop everything you're doing and cut his grass. So he wanted you to put off other customers just for him WRONG. Let's see how he will do with another Laen Care Service. Bottom Line Customers only care about themselves. Let something happen or go wrong let's see how they care about you then. He is probably catching it from his wife because he forgot to get yall there a few days before Easter. Lol.

You don't fire a customer. You quit. Massive difference. You don't fire someone that pays you. Not that you were wrong. I don't blame you one bit. But you quit.

To the people who say they have a waiting list. If you didn't have a waiting list, would you handle things differently? And try to keep the customer? Of course you would. So heres a brilliant idea. Try keeping the customer and for those on the waiting list, get another gang together. Make more money. Have more power. Take on bigger jobs. And if you say thats too difficult, then im not sure you are wired up correctly to be firing anyone.

What? With that swamp and saturation and constant rain you couldn’t/wouldn’t go mow that ex-customer’s lawn today? You should have invited him to come help you with the mulch…maybe then he would understand. Sorry you had to deal with this negativity. It really does not need to happen. We can excuse it as part of the job, but it really isn’t. Glad you could take a deep breath and be the best person you can be.

You can't mow saturated grass, no matter what holiday is coming up. Kudos for you for not allowing customers to dictate how YOU run YOUR business.

Love you guys. But please wear masks when you are shoving dusty garden filler of any type. I’ve lost several friends from lung damage from just a couple years. You are doing it weekly. Please take care and keep up the wonderful work.

I looked up about Ford not allowing the ordering of new trucks. The only thing I was able to find is the Maverick is the trucks that can't be ordered. I would look farther into this.....

Hi, your people are doing a good job as are you. But I would like to say one thing: what I keep seeing is that people are piling up around the tree trunks. In this way, however, one only achieves that these fine roots form at the top, instead of forming them in the lower layer of earth, in order to be able to survive dry phases. I know it like this: you form a ring at a distance of approx. 50 cm around the trunk so that the water can collect there and slowly seep into the earth. This is how the tree grows its roots downwards to get the water it needs. Just thinking about it from me. Greeting from Germany :D

I’ve let go of 2 customers. They would never answer me then no notice wanted yard cut at stupid times. It was their own world I was just living in it. They would always wait 1-2 months to contact me and tried to fight my overgrown fee

Simone like that is just this exact situation waiting to happen. Honestly it’s surprising it took four years…but that also lends itself to him probably just having a bad day…at least I hope it’s that simple.
