✍🏼 adding some things to my list for next year! We switched to AO after a term with another CM curriculum and it’s lovely. I agree that SCM makes so many easy to use, helpful resources.

Thanks for sharing! I have loved the SCM resources I’ve seen. I’m just starting to navigate the AO website but I think I want to use a combination for first grade next fall. It’s great to see someone else using both and what that looks like.

Such a lovely video. We are looking into purchasing some scm materials this week so this came at a great time. Do you use a book of centuries? Can you share how and if you use any notebooking and recitation? Thanks so much

Yes! I'll add these to my things to show! My oldest started a book of centuries this year :) and I think I'll show our term exams this year too in more detail!

Do you have a video on how you use Laying Down The Rails? I have it but have been awful with implementing it 🙈

@@Dreblueskies it is in our morning basket loop :) we read one of the lessons each week for the habit of the term and if it's a habit with clear application (like cleanliness) we focus on trying to build that stronger in their lives

I’ve heard good things about SCM’s Book of Centuries. Do you use that? I’d love a peek inside if you do. I love the picture studies too! I have their Midsummer Night’s Dream Shakespeare study. I just need to get up the nerve to do it. I never studied Shakespeare so it feels very intimidating. We also have the Habit books. Now I’m thinking I’ll have to get some copy books as well! 😊 Is there a specific reason you chose to use AO over SCM for you history? I’ve been trying to decide between AO, A Gentle Feast, Heart of Dakota, or SCM. I think I’m down to either HOD or SCM.

I decided longterm I wanted history & literature to be an individual study over family-style :) that was the main reason I went with AO for history and readings! My oldest (AO year 4) had really enjoyed the independence this year!

@@hannahgravelle that makes sense! And my main reason I don’t want to use AO. I want all my kids studying the same time period together even if at different reading levels. And esp want to group my oldest 2 together and my younger 2 together.
@hannahgravelle
@hannahgravelle 7 месяцев назад
@@homeschoollifemom yes! Totally. 2 years ago I went back and forth but last fall I thought, let's just do this 😆 and it worked out really well for us! But I have lots of friends that want it family style for everything, totally get it! If you're trying to pair only groups of 2 kids, AO groups might be a good option for you too!

This is so helpful! I’m looking into doing both SCM & AO. Do you mind me asking why you don’t do history/geo/bible with SCM? I love your videos 🤍
@hannahgravelle
@hannahgravelle 7 месяцев назад
Honestly when I was introduced to SCM a few years I was using Mystery History and thought it was similar to SCM and I actually took living book recommendations that paired with SCM's which we read!! But last year I decided to just go with AO individually for the girls. I think down the road it might be easier for me to have the 4 kids independently doing their AO history & literature readings than fitting it into morning time. However, I love SCM so I bet it is lovely if you're going for all family-style homeschooling!

That makes a lot of sense! I keep going back and forth between the two for history. We’ll see what we end up picking. Thank you for this video, there aren’t a lot of SCM reviews, so it’s super helpful. Blessings 🫶🏽

Thanks for the video. I am using MFW for kindergarten. We have twin 3 year olds as well. Always eyeing other curriculums even though I enjoy mfw. Random question. I like that large leaf houseplant. What plant is it?

I am a new subscriber. It seems we have very similar ways of homeschooling. I am new to Charlotte Mason and have utilized Ambleside and found that Simply Charlotte Mason’s curriculum is very well done. Thank you for showing it more in-depth. This video has confirmed that it’s what I want to purchase! Is your current schedule/routine still serving you well or will you change it for 2024-25? And maybe another day-in-the-life flow of your day. And what you do specifically for each thing. Thanks!

So glad you're here! Thank you for these suggestions! I was thinking it's been awhile since I did a ditl! And our routine is working so well, so I plan to keep the same rhythm (but alas we never know what the future holds, haha)! My 3rd kiddo will be nearly 6 come fall so I might incorporate some of ambleside Year 0 reading together, maybe for 20 minutes a day ❤️

@hannahgravelle 7 месяцев назад
@@terpcsmith ambleside! I was doing Mystery History which I still recommend as a great family style (it was what I was familiar with from my Mom using it with the last 3 of her kids) but last year I switched it to ambleside, their individual living books. And that has worked really well for us, I still feel like we have a lot of time as a family with morning studies!

What did you use to teach your kids to read
@hannahgravelle
@hannahgravelle 6 месяцев назад
My oldest are 10 and 8 and we used 100 lessons to read and then went straight to Pathway Readers! It worked very well for them. I didn't know about Charlotte Mason's approach at the time. Now that I've read Home Education I believe I can use the same book but add in the principles she encourages. A friend did loan me the Simply Charlotte Mason reading curriculum so I'm going to study that over the summer for my 5 year old and decide if I should try that! But I know like to change something that works, and 100 Lessons to Read DID work! :) my girls are confident readers!
