Thank you so much for this review, I just found this curriculum, and will start using it for my 3 children, so this review was so helpful to see inside, and to hear practical information surrounding it, and using it.
For any parents out there in regards to the helping verbs memorizing, I learned a cheer in school. I feel it flows in the mind well. Be, is, am, are, was, were,been- Have, has, had, do, does, did, can; Could, would, should, may, must, might, will shall, being. Maybe try a line of that a day like a poetry stanza. Hope that helps!
This was soooo helpful! Thank you! I am in the middle of using FLL levels 1 and 2 with my upcoming 2nd grader. I recently purchased easy grammar grade 2 off eBay and I was amazed. I think FLL is top notch for auditory learners, however the retention was not there for my visual/kinesthetic kid. Planning to switch to Easy Grammar and Language smarts for the upcoming year! 🙂
This is way after the fact, but I just wanted to let you know how helpful this video was in confirming my decision to switch from First Language Lessons to Easy Grammar! I already have Easy Grammar on the way, but have been second guessing myself while I wait lol
Thank you so much! We do still use Easy Grammar.... BUT we are switching things up a little in the fall. I just finished the last of the planning for next year so I'll get our new picks up soon! I will say it's not because Easy Grammar didn't work and I am stressing out over the change - but I'll explain in the video. I have 4th grade Easy Grammar in my stash as backup in case my plan backfired! HA!
Do you think Easy Grammar is a good stand alone or do you think anyone would need to supplement it? Would you also recommend this program for struggling grammar learners? We use Basic Winston Grammar, and it's great but it's not a stand alone.
Yes, Easy Grammar is a stand-alone gramnar curriculum. I think their approach would be excellent for struggling grammar students because of how they teach about prepositional phrases before anything else. Once you can identify those, it's really easy to identify the core parts of a sentence. I have tried to deviate from this program just to try something new, but we always come back to it. :)
We used IEW Fix-It Grammar for my now graduated high schooler. I prefer Easy Grammar through middle school (which we also used with my high schooler through middle school) and will likely switch to Fix It Grammar in high school with my youngest like we did with his older brother. We now also do Evan Moor Paragraph Editing with Easy Grammar for practical grammar correction, and it's just a great fit right now. :) Fix-It Grammar takes pre-written text and intentionally adds mistakes for the student to find. The student then has to copy the corrected text into a notebook and by the end of the book they have a completed story (that is grammatically correct). It's a great program but I love the way Easy Grammar teaches grammar so I stick with that for now and incorporate the editing component in with the Evan Moor. It might seem like I could just simplify and use the Fix-It instead, but every time I try and leave Easy Grammar I regret it. LOL!!
@@PurposefulHomeschool Thank you! We have been using Fix it for the past two years. I find it very confusing as does my son. I just ordered Easy Grammar. I am confident it will be a straight forward program! Thank you again!!
