This was a fantastic list. Its nice to hear something different about Wild Robot. I haven't read it yet, but I was worried about being disappointed. Haha! 💕 I'm borrowing wingfeather for my oldest now. She's been dying for new book recommendations.
Great list! We were engrossed in The Wilderking Series when our spot at the library came up for The Wing Feather Saga so we will have to try it again sometime bc ppl are always talking about it. I always finish my reads outloud with the Librivox recording “This has been a Librivox recording, all recording are in the public domain…” it cracks the kids up.
Loved this video! So helpful and some really great suggestions. I can't wait to see what your kids read themselves as well. We have an emerging reader here and I am on the hunt for books she will enjoy next year.
I love that you were bugged by simple sentences! Lol!! I notice those things too....especially when it’s very WELL written with description and vocabulary. You seem like you’d enjoy IEW for writing. Have you ever looked at it? Or are you only brave writer? I’ve never looked at that but I know Sarah Mackenzie loves both. 😉
These were such great reads! Im so glad you said that about the Wingfeather Saga. I am loving it more than the kids but we will keep going! We did Pippi along with the Hearth Magic Unit for it and my kdis loved it so much we started The Secret Garden one she has. We read frequently but they seem to have even more enthusiasm to hear the story when they are waiting for the fun thing we will do like I pacled thwm a lunch too eat outsode when Mary travelled to the moors.
I am reading “The Hobbit” to my almost 10-yr-old. We are about halfway through it. I am also reading “The Tale of Despereaux” to my 7-yr-old. Great books, both! My almost- 10-yr.-old read “The Wild Robot” and “The Wild Robot Escapes” to herself and she loved then! She also just finished “Keeper of the Lost Cities” she devoured that book, she read all 488 pages of it in just under a week!
We Listened to The Wild Robot and I really enjoyed all the voices, as I was listening to it I thought to my self, this would be difficult to read with all the character voices.😂😅
I agree with you about simple sentences. The exact same thing happened to me when I read "Hatchet" as a Read Aloud this year!!!! The kids loved it, though.
Oh shoot Wild Robot was #1 on our list this year hahaha! But I loved hearing a different perspective on it! We still need to start The Wingfeather Saga!
The Wild Robot was also not my favorite! I couldn't put my finger on it, but your description helped. My kids enjoyed it but we probably won't be reading the sequel.
Never heard of librivox! Great tip! I keep wanting to join audible but for some reason..,it confuses me. I do so much better with audiobooks bc I’d rather listen than read! Mama’s jaw gets tired of always talking!! 😜
I did NOT use any book list this year and we read randomly. We read 12 chapter books and 80 picture books. I am just going to mention a few of our Chapter book Read alouds. For context, I have an 8 yr. Old, 6 yr. Old, and 3 yr. Old: We have been reading "The Imagination Station" book series as Read alouds. The children love them but I personally find the text simple and thus annoying to read. I have enjoyed some of the plots. We read five or so of this series. I continued as the kids really really like them. So win for them. We also read, "The Mystery of the Vanishing Treasure" by Robert Arthur (It is a part of "The Three Investigators" series). It was a win for both kids and mom. It was very engaging. We lOVED the "Raggedy Ann Stories" by Gruelle and "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" by Lewis, and "Maybelle in the Soup" by Katie Speck Other stories we read aloud that they liked but I found less enjoyable to read aloud though I liked the story: "Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen "20, 000 Leagues Under the Sea" by Jules Verne (we read the Great Classics Illustrated edition)
These are GREAT books! I haven't heard of some of them. We loved the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe a couple of years ago. It's been fun to read The Voyage of the Dawn Treader this summer. :) Thank you for taking the time to share!
LOVE Mr. Popper's Penguins. I could read that one over and over again. The Wild Robot has some interesting ideas in it for sure. I have a love/hate relationship with that one based on the values in it. I've always wondered about the Wingfeather series. The Christian heroes series is really good. Our library sometimes gets the audiobooks in and we love them. We're in book #3 of the Green Ember series. Very good.
I love the George Mueller story. There is a move, you know?!?! Not sure if you enjoy watching movies after books. My church watched it for a family night one year. If you want to know about it, let me know bc I’ll have to ask them who produced it. ;)
The wild robot fans are screwed When comes the dreamworks fans/animation fans talking similar criticism that she was talking about…I know not everything had to be perfect but theses book are underrated until the creator of lilo and stitch is making them.
Thanks for some new ideas! I'm wanting to do some Thornton Burgess read alouds for sure. I may be the only one but I have zero interest in the Wild Robot. I don't like passive voice as much either, and I worry about the transhumanism agenda, which is not what you didn't like but just something I am trying to avoid.
Glad I'm not the only one who thought that! I actually was thinking something similar about the Wild Robot, but chose not to mention it in this video. Thanks for sharing!
@@JoyfulNoiseLearning No worries. Thank you. We are moving to AO this coming year with my 6 year old (year O) and my 4th grader. I have some FIAR mini units too that I love. I just want to make sure I am not missing any great books!
