Hey Tommy. Big day today - my Trip The Witch box arrived! Proudly sporting the Tee and sorting a frame for the artwork. So nice to hold the physical product of the record. CD for convenience, vinyl for quiet nights in. Huge thanks to you and Dean. What an album. Fumbling about with Sails of Charon tonight. Big love from Scotland. Cheers!

We can only hope that the demand for the vinyl will bring some of the pros out of retirement. Although I don't mind waiting a bit longer for the vinyl version being many of the top notch machines aren't available everywhere either..🕊

We were recording at Ocean Way 5 or 6 years ago for a Pandora show I was hosting. I was supposed to interview someone in there and do some voice over stuff. We had a whole camera crew, lights, catering, musicians and lord knows who else. A sweet little sparrow flew in and landed somewhere up in the rafters and started chirping up a storm. We tried to record, but the sparrow was bleeding into everything. We finally had to tap out and go home. A lot of folks lost a lot of money and were pissed off, but I saw it as a sign of hope. That tiny little frightened sparrow shut the whole thing down.

Oh my God, that Buck Owens paint job on the Bass! When I was a kid I would have been a total sucker for a cheapie red white and blue acoustic guitar like Buck's on Hee Haw. I loved that guitar paint job so much when I was a kid I had my dad paint my fishing tackle box to match it. It's clear that as I got older my sense of personal style became much less cool.

That Hammond organ add-on at 6:10 is made by my buddy and former band mate Scott Hampton. His company, Hamptone, also makes tube mic pres and compressors.. I have his two channel tube mic pre and it’s FANTASTIC. Go look him up, classmates!

I'm definitely not schooled well in all of the equipment BUT the minute I heard you mutter "Neve" while scanning the board I started anticipating what was coming next even more than I already was! Rather than bore everyone to death as I'd love to blab 'analog' I'll simply say if you get a chance.. look up the documentary about Sound City studio. 'You' (as in whoever bothers to read what I write) They sadly had to close their doors awhile back but the docu. is *so* worth the time! So many big name bands happily recorded their best-selling albums there. The reason the Neve perked my ears is because Dave Grohl ended up with that ol' reliable beast when the studio closed and I believe he may have had it installed in the studio he had built, "Studio 606" Thank you so much for the guided tour Tom, that was quite kind and impeccably timed for me personally..🕊

You can tell the old well used Fenders, lots of them have the "cig burn" behind the nut on the bass side. That's where you park your cig while you're playing! The filter squeezes under the string, burning end in the air. The song goes long, or you forget about it and it makes that little burn on the headstock just behind the nut! I've got a 60's fretless P_bass just like the rosewood one! I bought it at a lawn sale in a small town for $200. I still have the guys name and phone number. If/when I sell it I'm going to split everything over the $200 with him. He doesn't know that yet though. LOL 8) Thanks Tommy!! --gary

Tom, do you see a correlation between all the studios going away, and the emotional quality of the music we are left with today?Meaning, that, when musicians don't play together in the same room, then something is missing.
