June 1st 2023....at an overdub session with my dear old friend, engineer Mills Logan....who happens to reside in a house i used to own many years ago.
Working on a track for a band called Mister Vertigo from Boston.
/ mistervertigomusik
Camera work by Grant Morgan.
Tone courtesy of a '63 Gibson ES-335 in a very "cheerful cherry" finish....an exemplary old chunk of lightweight and perfectly balanced Kalamazoo... built during the often talked about "Golden Era of guitar manufacturing" which took place in the United States from 1935 to 1965
Distortion courtesy of a Gerald Ford era (1973) Electro-Harmonix Ram's Head Big Muff....which Uncle Larry considers to be an absolute MUST have for any guitarist who takes playing the instrument seriously.
a LOT of new viewers have recently asked "where is the tip jar?" when they felt led to contribute something after 222 free guitar lessons...despite Dominic Hudson's best efforts to deter them.

There are still a few more of the hand signed limited edition Uncle Larry prints that Ziggy O'Leary did left....if you wanna check one out go here:
www.ziggysarts...
and a LOT of people don't seem to know that they can go here to purchase a myriad of Homeskoolin' related merchandise..including several different T-shirts and some beautifully constructed coffee mugs for those afflicted with thin lips...
dvg-inc.shopli...
A lot of these very same new viewers don't seem to know that Uncle Larry made a couple records that they could potentially listen to...
one is an instrumental solo record called "Plexi Soul" that is available here:
tombukovac.ban...
another is an instrumental collaboration with his dear friend Dean Deleo (originally from the Stone Temple Pilots organization) that is available here:
tripthewitch.b...

Thanks again so very much for the guitar work Tom! Thanks for recording Mills! Thanks for the camera work Grant! It all sounds beyond killer! My bandmate Ryan (Homeskooler for life) is overjoyed that his new song has you featured on it. As are myself and the rest of the band. It is exactly what the song needed to bring it home! Best - MV

Hey Buko. That was fucking great stuff! I’m gonna have to go and check out Mister Vertigo now, especially seeing as they, too, are here in Boston. Speaking of lost sessions, years ago I was told this story: apparently, John Lennon loved to pull practical jokes on people and during the sessions for Double Fantasy and Milk and Honey, one afternoon he waited for the engineer to leave the control room whilst he was changing reels and when Lennon was alone, he quickly removed the actual session real, replaced it with a blank one and let it unspool all over the floor. He then left the control room and waited for the engineer to return. When he heard the gasps of horror and panic, he walked back in and acted shocked, asking the engineer how he could let this happen and what they were going to do with all of this ruined work. He let the guy suffer for about five minutes before he confessed that the original tracks were safe and sound. Can you imagine being that poor guy? Gotta love John for shit like that! As always, thanks for bringing us into the world of the session man. Your pal in Boston, Darin

I could listen for hours upon hours of this "in studio" talk and interviews. Never enough! I can't think of another person on the planet that has given us a "real world" peak, behind the scenes of the recording life and industry, that so many of us musicians have wondered and dreamed about, but would never actually experience if not for these videos. Thanks Tom. Your gifts go far beyond your genius musical abilities. A true "people person", beyond stellar interviewer and always with genuine humility. Never stop what you're doing. Some of us couldn't stand the withdrawal. 😕

Good for Mister Vertigo to have the good sense to seek out the masterful stylings of a guy who doesn’t own a single pair of leather pants. Awesome how that guitar gives life to that track

And BTW I own a pair of leather pants. However, I would not wear a pair of leather pants unless I could fit into those again... and that's not happening. But if I give them away, someone else might wear them, so I can't do that either. They were a decision of foolish youth.
@jimmyfrombrooklyn8550

. But I do own the aforementioned Flying V, funny enough. A product of a impulsive youthful decision! Thankfully I don’t own and never will a pair of leather pants.

Uncle Larry, what always inspires is how you give over yourself to the music...you give it your all, no matter what. If i were a producer or recording artist....your the kind of total musician package i'd be looking for. Giving it your all with brilliant skill. Learned another thing today technically too. It was interesting that the guitar sounded better with a tad less distortion....you have mentioned that before. It was a perfect tone.

This was so much fun to watch AND listen!! Reminds me of the episode of the Foos' documentary where they recorded a song in each of a bunch of legendary studios, and they were out at Rancho De La Luna and Taylor was listening to Joe Walsh lay down his solo. Similar dynamics of just perfect note choices with amazing bends and alllllll feel and emotion pouring out of the fingers and guitar. Watching Larry was like watching lightening in a bottle get captured. Damn that was magical.

Tom, Not only are you putting in the hours, but look at what all of that time is going towards. Listening to the playback fresh, then dry, and then while it is actively being mixed into place.
