Snowed in....like most of us...outta beer....bad bad news. Anyway hope you enjoy this total free association stream of consciousness spewing forth from the mind of your weirdest old uncle in a messy 55 degree garage, replete with family interruptions.

Imagine how much free form noodling has come and gone without the camera rolling, never heard by anyone but Tom, before dissipating into the ether. I can only hope that those never heard harmonies floating around the atmosphere can help steer the world to a better place. Thanks for all you do, Uncle Larry.

This channel is a unique, charming example of doing *no* marketing and drawing a crowd on skill and sincerity alone. So incredibly unheard of. I found out about this fromThat Pedal Show, who raved about him for no other reason than his greatness. I do wonder how big a channel like this can get-with zero promotion, zero clickbait, just keeping on keeping on.

@jordandangelo180

Totally agree. He’s like part Jeff Beck, part Eric Johnson and part John McLaughlin. Speed, style and amazing knowledge of chords. I know he’s session man through and though but man I kept help but wish he would go on the road with Gordon and form a Weather Report style band where it’s just the highest level of musicianship and experimental music from open minds. Imagine Jaco and Uncle Larry jamming. Jaco had that level of creativity and play with endless endurance ....I could die happy after hearing that...

I've never heard Tom play jazz I don't think it's his thing
@jordandangelo180
@jordandangelo180 3 года назад
@@vhollund Not in the style of Jazz. Just the way they thought as musicians. Jaco loved to play funk and rock too. He played on an Ian Hunter record and the bass player from Mars Volta once asked him why he didn’t play more rock and he said no one ever approached him to play it. I always looked at Joe Zawinul and Jaco as musical explorers, not just jazz players. Yes, they happened to play jazz and fusion but they were always experimenting with different sounds, gear and different styles of writing and arranging. They were open minded players. Zawinul’s solo shows in the 80’s beyond were more experimental music than anything when he had like 6 keyboards and vocoders set up.

Last Friday, I single-mindedly headed toward a six of Guinness in a local store to ease into the weekend. It's then I spy a Rolling Rock. "Should I?" a voice asks myself. And I do...I add a Rolling Rocking to the six of Guinness. What followed could only be described as existential angst. How can a man whose playing I respect so much, a fellow progger steeped in rock and roll, a player who touches my soul with every video drink something so dichotomous to my liking? Has this all been a rouse? Nay...a lie? Then I realized I was buzzed from both the Rolling Rock and Guinness, and all was good in the world. Crisis averted. Uncle Larry, I can't say I'll go down the Rolling Rock path again, but you are loved and respected. All my best to you and your loved ones.

One of the good things about these youtube vids is getting to hear great players playing raw, live through an amp or just into the room... without being overproduced and shined up too much - I'd rather hear buzzes, snare rattles, fingers on wood and metal.... a bit less perfection and a bit more of improvisation too... music doesn't have to be all tied up nice and tidy in a song... I for one would love to hear Tom with some of these great players he shows us just bouncing off each other in a room and seeing where the mood takes them... like a Nashville basement tapes. Thanks for all this Tom, it's much appreciated. I loved the vid of you in the studio overdubbing on the garagey song demonstrating all the things you've been talking about over the last year or so.
