The government no longer has free homesteads, they stopped this several years ago.The last bit of homestead land was in Alaska, but there are no longer free homesteads there. There were some dying cities giving away lots with the understanding you would build a home there. They were doing this to try and bring new life into the dying communities. Perhaps there are still spots available, I have not checked for several months, since I found no where I wanted to live. Most were inside the city limits.
This seems to be about unclaimed land/property. Meaning derelict run down home/property that has been abandon due to various reasons. This could take more time and money fighting with the system than its worth. Yet the real winner is the system. It seems to me, if you can take decades waiting for the legal process to happen you should be able to acquire land the old fashion way of paying for it? High risk. Beware!

i recommend reading"The Natural Economic Order" by Silvio Gesell. You can see his name surfacing these days in the world of Economy, as our system of money is transforming. The book is about Free-Land and Free-Money ; Land which is not owned but rented from the people's government , where all this rent goes back to the people as services and infrastructure building ( it is just the rent from the land, rent from buildings - homes, factories - still goes to the builder owner. ) Free- money is money which is free to circulate because it "melts" if i just hold it . In other words it can't be hoarded.
I would like to move into tiny house in the woods and get out of New Orleans la where I grow herbs like peppermint ,basal ,tomatoes but I have 1 catch I don't have the money to get a Uhaul truck to do this I would like to have someone to help me do this
Drop a travel trailer on it. Instant home. Govt may not consider it what they want, though. I used to look into remote land purchases until I realized that just visiting was enough. Ownership has a lot of responsibilities and costs.
If our government is "by the people, for the people," you would think that that is our land, for us. "Our government is GIVING us free land," sounds funny, unless it truly isn't our government and our land =)

Douglas Fir Publishing Studio - Apache county AZ is pretty easy to buy land where you can drive up and move in your RV. Cochise County AZ is also really easy. Elko County NV is also very easy cheap land. Lots of you tube videos on each area to look up.
