Homestuck is a webcomic that ran from 2008 to 2016 that revolves around 4 kids playing a game together. What made people interested in it in the first place is hard to pin point, but therr are a buncha thinfs that make it unique The format for instance, yes its a comic, in the sense that pictures are very prominent, but every conversation is told through long chatlog-like blocks of text, with a lot of the writing emulating how a young teen in 2009 would talk to their friends over the internet. The characterisation, especially in the early parts of the comic, is STRONG. Every character feels unique because we get to know their interests and aspirations first and formost, as well as how their room looks like. Most of the first 4 acts of the comic were reader-suggestion-driven, meaning some of the comic acted as a puzzle for the reader and people atthe time could really feel a community spirit reading the work. this ofc is no longer the case, especially since the comic is over, but its really cool seeing this sort of group contiousness shine through in those early oarts of the comic The comic had a whole soundtrack released alongside it that really makes you GET the characters and world a little more.. Whats also cool about it is that there were so many musicians and yet a lot of them kept referencing eachothers work. Listening to the various albums created for homestuck is an experience in of itself And i guess the last thing ill say that makes it really cool is how grand but also.. customisable it is? As in. the game the kids play becomes a way bigger deal in their and everyones lives than any of them could predict,and the game has a lot of switching parts that made a LOT of people make fancomics with their own characters playing the same game but with a different setting and circumstances. The way the world is presented really makes peoples imaginations go wild and i think thats rad. Besides the 4 main characters there are a LOT of others to care about and discuss just because of how strong the character writing is and i have definately gotten lost in talking about a specific chsracter in dms with my friend before Anyway if you wanna give it a shot be warned the official website is a bit broken? the comic had flash games and flash animations but they ofc dont work anymore because of the death of Flash. However an alternative exists called the unofficial homestuck collection which ains to preserve all of that as well as giving you the oppurtunity to see suplementary material completelly spoiler free sonif any of this interested you give it a shot! also i didnt check for typos
