i think my favorite aspect of minestuck was the fact you had to make your own house. like yeah, sure you can just speedrun the essentials and the bare minimum for setting up sburb and immediately go to your land, but theres something very immersive about taking your time to make your home. I choose to focus on aesthetic to a degree, but the survival gameplay doesn't escape me, and so every room tends to have a purpose. storage, cooking/smelting, enchanting area, farm, mineshaft entrance, nether portal area, etc etc. pairing that with less efficient but more homely building choices like a living room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, etc, and you've got a place that _feels_ like home, and that means a lot more to me than being in the genesis project's map editor. Has a "universe was created last thursday" vibe to it yknow? with minestuck, i, through my character, made my house and actively used it for non-sburb purposes, living in it for my own needs outside of wanting a prop to take with me to my land. idk if any sburb sim will be able to recreate that effect without effectively being a sandbox building game from the start. maybe if it doesn't immediately have you looking for the sburb disc, and instead has you get familiar with the procedurally generated surroundings of your house? go buy something from the store, help clean the neighbor's windows, go on a jog, go do crime, go uncover some scifi-magic-bullshit, whatever. it could be a fun way to pre-establish classpect traits, help naturally bring in more junk to your house that can serve as interesting alchemization material, and let the player gain strength in ways that aren't explicitly sburb related (Like how Dad and Bro are insanely strong, or how the lives of trolls are already full of combat and powers even without Sburb) only issue that comes to mind is that it just adds more playtime where the players are isolated from eachother lol. but idk, maybe they could find places to transportalize junk or hostile traps to eachother, or maybe theyre on a shared map and can find eachother for shenanigans immediately, idunno lmao. as i type this, i realize its just more fun and interesting for my home to be integrated with the reality around it, before it gets ripped away from that reality into a new one. and the adventures that happen along the way would help make it feel like your house, instead of just a randomly generated setpiece or your custom roblox map.
Honestly this is f0nking sick????? (Ngl i think the universe led me here, i had this stupid bit on my latest stream abour being advertized by the pebsis 90% alcohol 6 course meal soda... and... now this... im so proud to be sponsored by sbepis....)
Man this really shows how much hussie fell on his face when it came to capitalizing on homestuck gaming. Imagine if all that dough he spent relaunching hiveswap five times was spent on an actually competent team making an actually interesting videogame
