This film has been through many edits and reshoots; every time I upload what I think is the final product, I'll return to it months later and decide there's more work to be done and more things to be tweaked. Hopefully this is the definitive and final version!
Hometown is a short film set in a post-apocalyptic England.
This film took one year to make because of having to balance work, sorting out the many many logistical issues, filming two other films during, and having just one other person helping me out by operating the camera and acting in some scenes. I also had to act in the lead myself.
Despite this, the whole process was incredibly gratifying and I cannot believe it's finally finished; there were so many times I doubted it would ever get finished because of the issues the production faced, but now it's fully edited and ready to put out there.
I hope to make more projects of higher production quality in the future as well as some non-narrative projects for the channel too like little documentaries and action reels.

I can understand why the character gave up in the end, but I hated him for taking the exit door all the same. You did a great job on this!

An instinct of survival overcomes every obstacle. The character saw his strength diminish little by little by letting the tragedies he faced take the best of him and the dog could be a symbol of hope and better future. Finding a place to wash and a bed to sleep gave him hope. Enough to put everything behind and move on. What brought him down was his own sensitivity to death of people he faced. This is not good when you're in a situation like that. To the best of your ability you must stay alert and strong. In apocalyptic time our present normality becomes abnormal. Just like a soldier who find himself in a war situation, one must quickly put his past behind and move forward and create hope and happiness even in that environment. Film was excellent and the performance flawless.

One never really knows 100% for sure what they'd do, I think when the guy raised his gun to me, I wouldn't have hesitated to shoot first. Not when I hadn't drawn my gun to begin with. I THINK I would have. LOL. I can see how he felt at the end and just wanted it to end. But if the dog was real and had returned, that would have given me hope and maybe I could carry on a little longer. But then it didn't show he actually ended his life. Maybe he just laid down. A very good film all the way around. And this was on an iPhone? Impressive.

Really appreciate the input and glad you enjoyed it! The dog at the end is suggested to not actually be there, essentially the character dies of his illness and everything past that is in his fever-induced mindstate. Him putting a gun to his head is basically just him choosing to give up on his inner battle, I understand if that wasn’t super clear though I did make it quite vague There’s an extended cut that’s quite a different edit that makes this clearer though on my channel The dog exists as basically a guardian figure to help him on his journey I chose to keep it vague as to whether people want to read into it from a religious perspective or from the perspective that he’s just a man struggling with his sanity

I don't like to nitpick works of fiction. People who don't make mistakes make for boring movies. This was a compassionate character, burying a corpse when there are probably hundreds more lying around. His survival was unlikely anyway. For anyone in a real survival situation, wearing white in the woods is a no-no, unless it snowed. But people aren't perfect.

One of the things that annoys me about these low budget apocalyptic movies is that the makers always fail to understand that there will be no electricity in a post-apocalyptic world. When Society has collapse, and no people are around, there's no one to run the power plants and keep things going. Everything shuts down.

Great film! But the one thing that I don't understand is why....( in all of these type films) do these guys not cary thier guns already in battery? I mean that extra second it takes to rack a round could mean life or death. Just an observation.

Appreciate the comment! I see what you’re saying, but bare in mind the survivor is British and has likely never carried a gun prior to the apocalypse, take in mind he’s not the most resourceful survivor in general 😂 I plotted seeds that he was basically just a normal dude forced in a survival situation

Exactly. So much for the "lone wolf" fashion of apocalyptic films, it's only for superheroes. This one is the complete argument of why that won't survive. Better try to get constructive communities going dudes instead of waging war from Kiev to Bethlehem. It will end bad.

I cried.....as I am a compassionate person, too and believe everyone has good in them. But God's Biblical Prophesies says earth will become like this film portrays....and even worse.

If he is the one of only a very few humans left, then perhaps a solid house with plenty of game (wildlife) and situated near a dependable waterway with plenty of fish would be highly preferable. And if this is true then camouflage clothing is not much needed. But in some apocalyptic situations especially if there are still many other armed and highly dangerous humans roaming about too; outdoor living and nearly constantly moving is likely to be the norm. In that case: camouflaged clothing should be an unflinching daily habit. Which should be very easy to find if you can get to any city stores. Not likely anyone is going to stock up and take every stitch of every bit of clothing from every store.

The first thing I would do is find a vacant house that was still in good shape and proceed hunt, fish establish a water source and try my best to make the most of what time I had left.

Thanks! And I actually agree believe it or not. However I still like the landscape of an-every-man-for-themselves apocalypse. Even if it’s excessive and not what would happen in a realistic scenario

The thin veneer of the illusion of civilization rapidly dissapears once shit hits the fan, once supplies of food fail, power is cut and law and order fails it will get real v quickly, my advice is head to the coast and find a boat, get away from cities .
