Metonymy of Presence” is the double identity Indians hold due to the effect of colonization. This phrase has been coined by Homi K. Bhabha. It refers to the mimicry of the colonized by the colonizer. The British colonizers who ruled as have made an impact socially and culturally. The invisible presence of the colonizers is omnipresent in the Postcolonial era. Indians are caught between two cultures. They could neither adhere to the old tradition nor follow the modern trend completely. It is difficult for them to own an identity of their own.

So it essentially means that as the colonised we will represent our colonisers in some ways, even after the colonised have departed and we're permanently in a state of "limbo" ? (Metonymy=substituting a word to represent another related to it. Which means the culture of the Europeans left behind in colonised generations which represents certain aspects of the Europeans)

Salam Sir 'Mimicry is the metonymy of presence' is all about double/dual identity that orientalist/colonised had while colonialism. As we may see that in semantics the 'metonymy' is the terminology of closed relations. Similarly, mimicry is the metonymy of presence in the sense that we have opposing/arbitrary human agency by transition from selfhood to the other and what is being shown, is basically a third space. Metonymy of presence , simply, is the presence of the foreigner in this transition process that you mentioned... there is no 'selfhood' anymore, it has fully merged to be a totally new hybrid identity.

Sir plz clarify this point I have one confusion about the third space. The third space is placed e.g where we find a mixture of two cultures OR hybrid product or collective identity that we get when the culture of colonized and colonizer. Combine. Sir if we apply this term to any novel or text we can mention any name of a place where we find two cultures? Or we mention.. How a person adopts another culture.? Plz, sir clear up this confusion! Is it for your answer?
