Anyone who is willing to go out in below zero to see a steamer ship in is a real passionate fan of the trade!

The way some of the crew stands there and waves at people makes me think of a parade float. lol

Nothing like this in Australia, our climate is too warm however in Melbourne, it feels like there should be icebergs in winter. I love seeing this sort thing, it’s awesome. 🥶🥶🍺🍺🇦🇺🇦🇺

HA - MELBOURNE never gets that cold -it is just that we get ‘spoiled’ with our mild Winters and whinge about NOTHING. CHEERS from AUSTRALIA.

What are the pros/cons of having a bridge towards the bow versus the stern?
@T-Sav
@T-Sav 4 года назад
You can see more at the front, and less at the back

bridge on the forward: pro: it is on the forward con: it is not at the back bridge on the back: pro: it is on the back con: it is not on the forward

@@ILM787 In all seriousness now: advatangae of bridge forward - excellent visibility in front of the vessel - very quiet ship as at most vessels engineroom stays on the back, so crew sleeping forward have a good rest disadvantage: - more difficult to see what the vessels does when turning near buoys and/or in tight spaces - in rough weather more noise from vessel hitting the waves and the foreships moves more then the aftship so less rest when sleeping in the foreship - more expensive to built as engineroom is far from the bridge and pipes and cables have to run from engineroom to bridge advatangae of bridge on the aft advantage: - better overall visibility when turning - less movement of the aftship so "better" rest in rough weather - cheaper to built as pipes and cables to bridge can be shorter disadvantage: - poor visibility close to the bow - more noise from the engine and engineroom All in all both have advantages, however I think that the building cost are most decisive (for ocean going vessels at least).
